Best Shmup platform PC or X-Box?

I'm just wondering what is the best platform for Cave (and other cool Shmups) the PC or the Xbox?

Cave hasn't officially released any games on the PC yet, so obviously it'd be Xbox 360.

There's a lot of good (and bad) shmups on both platforms. I don't think it's a case of which platform is the 'best' for shmups, but rather simply what shmups you're into and what's available. Obviously the PC has more choices due to doujins, emulators, etc, but nothing compares to supporting the companies by buying their official releases.

You can't play ESP Ra De on the Xbox, maybe others, but it's not like you have to throw out your PC to get a console.

Does the original Xbox have any shmups? I know it has like, a port of Psyvariar Ultimate, but that's like, all I can think of.

It has Shikigami no Shiro 1 and 2

I suppose the PC wins because you can emulate (almost) everything under the sun, but I do most of my shooting on the 360.

Having just recently played a couple of 360 ports (specifically Mushi and Futari), the 360 wins hands down over emulating them on the PC.

Plus there's lots of other good stuff, like Gal*Gun and Strike Witches

360 for the new ones, PC for the olduns, basically. I'd happily buy Progear off Live Arcade for the same price as RSG, but sadly, it isn't to be...

You can emulate lots of stuff on a toaster these days. If you are so cash-strapped that you can only afford one, you'd better get a PC anyway.

Oddly enough, Psyvariar 2 and Shiki 2 are the only two imports I bothered getting for Xbox1.

Yea, even MAME Ketsui runs rather well on my 6-year old laptop that was literally the cheapest thing in the store at the time (I originally got it just for web and document stuff while travelling).

Ok Xbox is by far the superior Shmup platform when combined with a Hori arcade stick.
There is so many great Cave games and as of this morning Raiden IV (which is fantastic.
Sorry Sony you are my FPS platform now.

Hey, be easy on the guy. He was part of the Philadelphia Experiment, so lots has changed.

Back when he was here last, we had to check a bunch of vacuum tubes whenever we wanted to start up a game of MAME.

@ Arvandor: Ketsui was playable in MAME from 2010 on. I only found out about it recently, too, though.

I was actually really surprised to learn that it worked on mame, because i've been lurking here a while so I also had the notion that it was an un-emulate-able game.
Now if only those konami games worked...

PC, mostly because of doujin games. Especially in this day and age where commercial devs are more or less done with producing shmups, with the possible exception of CAVE. And I'm kinda tired of CAVE.

Mostly I like PC games because of the doujinshmup scene, especially with services like Steam and Desura as well as publishers like Nyu Media making doujin shmups legally available at a low cost these days; hell, some doujin shmups are freeware. Lots of bad doujinshmups of course but there are plenty of good gems (Cho Ren Sha, almost anything by Kenta Cho, Ether Vapor, Satazius, Crimzon Clover, and of course lol touhou).

And of course who could forget emulation. Illegal, yes, but it's how I got into a lot of shmups.
