Wow, for a second there I found myself longing for a box for collector's sake :|

The funny thing is that many, if not most, of these brands are going to go back into production soon enough, just with different owners, I'm sure.

But what if the sealed box of Twinkies actually contains a videogame cartridge?

But they won't be Hostess-branded, which seems to be the key!

Yeah if you can manage to get your hands on any, it ought to be worth your while. Flipping a box of Ding Dongs for enough profit to buy a new current-gen game isn't too bad. A few more boxes and you've got a Cave PCB! Even if you don't turn a profit, at least you can eat the rest.

I predict we will see in trading station soon: WTT 5 boxes of Ho-Hos for Ketsui kit

Unless someone buys the brand name ;)

This is crazy. I went to 2 of my local grocery stores to buy one box, just for the heck of it, and both of them have the shelves cleared out of Twinkies. My local news is reporting that people are spending 75-100 dollars on Twinkies and then reselling then on ebay for 60-75 dollars a box. :|

It would be nice to troll those people by passing off Submarinos as Twinkies.

This is so fucking absurd. I never thought I'd see the day. I could kinda understand if this ebay auction was 10 years from now, but the fact that this just got announced and people are already flipping shit is pretty crazy. My buddy works at a local Dillon's. Gonna see if he can snag some sponge cake gold tomorrow.

All the Hostess brand name makes me think of is Marvell Zombies eating children. (I'm sure they didn't exactly ask for that...)

You can't even store Twinkies for a long period; the story about them lasting for years is a myth.
A common urban legend claims that Twinkies have an infinite shelf life or can last unspoiled for a relatively long time of ten, fifty, or one hundred years due to chemicals used in production. This urban legend is false, although Twinkies can last a relatively long time (25 days or more) because they are made without unstabilized dairy products and thus spoil more slowly than most bakery items.

I'll miss deep fried Twinkies, but if this gives Tastykake an upperhand in the diabetes-inducing snack cake market and keeps them solvent, then it's all for the best.

The price for this auction is now over 400.00$, staring bid 30.00$, for 50 twinkies. Still, very scary to know that there are people bidding on this. . .

Was talking to a Sara Lee vendor today & he said he'll have start looking for a new job. It turns out that Hostess owns the Sara Lee brand and it, too, along with all the various Hostess snack names are up for sale. Some bigger American companies are very eager to snatch up the Hostess brand name for themselves...I wouldn't be surprised if Kraft Foods ends up buying up the Hostess brand new & snack recipes as they have such deep monetary pockets easily (not to mention a vast distribution network/routes already in place).

I went to my local grocery store and saw all the usual boxed hostess snacks were all bought out yesterday except for a single box of Ding Dongs, four boxes of Hostess Strawberry Cupcakes and a single Hostess Orange Cupcakes still up for grabs today. So I ended up buying the very last box of Ding Dongs & a box of them Strawberry Cupcakes. Oh well, at least I tried to see if it was still possible to get a box of Twinkies but it was no cigar.

I am morbidly temped to try this "twinkie flip" I keep seeing about since I live near a a bread and pastry factory here in Northern Cali, which I imagine is quite raided by now. Although I found the twinkie okay, my heart however really pours for the chocolate Zingers. Those I'm gonna miss (assuming the recipe goes unsold).

Yeah, them chocolate & raspberry flavored Zingers were my favorites. I'm quite sure they'll be back under new ownership the 2nd time around.

I'm going hit the local Hostess Bakery outlet & see what's left. It'll probably be slim pickings indeed.

Believe it or not, such Twinkies, Ding Dongs & the like, freeze well for posterity. Heck, I've even eaten frozen Twinkies from time to time (making them last well beyond their alloted 25 day period if stored at room temperature).

Long time Hostess snack devotees will recall them selling those Raspberry filled donuts (six inside a box carton)...they used to sell 'em on the West Coast but aren't anymore (it was available in the mid-states and back East).

Well, if it had been a cigar, I don't know who you would've had to complain about it to. That worked out for the best!

That's insufficiently specific of you! There is no trouble brewing in Syri...ah, well, trouble has already brewed there, but from a different source. Pastestinia Secunda, for example - quite peaceful these days.
