I'd like to know why health in games goes straight from fully mobile to stone dead.

I'd also like to know how those masons knew where to hide the wallmeats.

On the topic of RPGs, all those teen heroes seems to be lacking on the parent department. Either both parents are dead, or one of them is alive but doesn't care what his/her son is doing.

In any case, the teens are free to roam the entire world by themselves and don't need to worry about being home for dinner.

Why is it that in many games, keys can only be used once? What are they making the things out of, paiper-mache?

Pokemon parents are the worst. Their children are not even out saving the world. They're just out there abusing animals and earning accolades for that.

How does Ridley fly in what seems to be outer space in Metroid Prime? He flip his wings. (Rest reassured, I'm not really spoiling it.)

I sympathize with fans who feel their intelligence is insulted when game companies (not that this hasn't ever happened elsewhere...see comics again) are all "hey that stuff you know happened...IT DIDN'T"
It's because the US comics industry is a comics hell where comics artists must serve their shit before they are allowed to be reborn somewhere else. It's not like I haven't seen insultingly shitty comics art and whatnot created elsewhere, but the US standards are paticulary depressing. It's hard to believe it all happens in the country of Windsor McCay, Will Eisner, Alex Raymond and Hal Foster. You have to wonder "what went wrong?"
I should thank you thousand times! So true.

Will Eisner, though, he was independent from the get go. He was never serving some huge asshole studio such as Marvel, etc.

These days, its quite difficult. I am not myself so worried about artist getting the anatomy wrong. I am more concerned about lack of style and lack of vision.

This applies to both the anime and the games, but where does Kenshiro get all of his shirts and jackets? That seems like the kind of stuff you couldn't find just anywhere in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

How can you keep getting money from killing monsters? Do Leafers actually eat money? Or do they eat rocks and their digestive systems do some kind of refining process?

In the manga he's actually seen taking the jacket of a random thug he's just killed at one point, plus he only loses his shirt relatively rarely to begin with. He's probably spoiled for choice after a decent-sized biker gang massacre. In the anime he does the exploding jacket party trick several times daily to kill even the scrubbiest of thugs, suggesting he owns a sewing machine and is deadly accurate with it.

Okay, now here's one mystery I never figured out: what was the deal with that Ecco the Dolphin password?

Ecco is a very difficult game, and back then I didn't know anyone who got far in it. After a while, gaming magazines started to publish something along the lines of: "Hey gamers! Having trouble with Ecco the Dolphin? Here's a password that will take you to the second-to-last stage!"

The password provided indeed took you to that stage (the hellish "Welcome to the Machine" level), but there was a catch: Ecco didn't have the power to breathe underwater. It was only a matter of time before he died, so beating the game with that password was impossible.

So, why did gaming magazines publish this password to everyone? How did they even get a hold of it in the first place? You'd never get this password if you played the game normally.

Was it a password they found out by accident? Was it an attempt to troll everyone? I have no idea.

I completed Ecco without passwords. Great game but you have to play the machine over and over again if you keep dying on the Queen in the last level, what a bitch.

I heard talk from Spencer Nielsen there might be a 3rd game in the works as an XBLA or PSN release and I can't wait.

Borderlands explained this (sort of) by saying that for some odd reason, Skags and other Pandoran creatures just happen to really enjoy eating guns.

Damn, why did they have to bring Nielsen back, instead of the guys who did the awesome music for the cart version of Ecco II? Compare: title screen, MD vs SCD.

It doesn't fucking matter. You have to be strong enough to penetrate to bone, bruise brain, or bend limbs. Without weapons or supernatural powers, you don't outfight a bear.

Which makes me sad that Street Fighter 2 has lied to me. I'm 230 lbs, and I'd do jag all against Zangief in a fight.

... yeah, I guess I get riled up whenever someone even kinda sort of thinks real life is Dragon Ball. Any good, competent high school male sports team will slaughter the hell out of a professional women's team. If you have a misanthropic fetish for seeing how women are built physically weaker, I guess that's the kind of thing you can visit the youtoobs for.

God Hand: What the fuck is that Kick Me sign made of? Gene can get the ever-loving shit beaten out of him by inhumanly powerful demons, including "SATAN" himself, and it doesn't get a scratch, but if he does so much as a single Ball Buster it disintegrates.

Who is JUSTIN BAILEY? I know lots of words/names will load as a save in Metroid but why was this one so popular (and perhaps in Nintendo Power?)?

I punched it into google the other day for a laugh and the best explanation I saw was that it was like the symbiote from Spiderman, just seeking him out and reforming on him after every fight.

Path of Exile has some silliness galore as well. "Why are the cannibals and skeletons in cahoots trying to murder me? And why don't the cannibals eat each other instead of trying to take on the guy slaughtering waves and waves of them like nothing?"

"Is the Cave Beast some kind of long lost evolutionary transitory form between the stegosaurus and a bear?"

I knew a person who was perturbed by the FF6 Leafer. "They're made of what they eat. It bugs me."
Ex-Cyber wrote:I think you maybe nuked the wrong quote tag there.

MX7 wrote:A man clad in green stumbles through a wood. His arm is all but torn from his torso, and he clings desperately to the mass of sinew and bone with his free hand. As he looses his footing, a lazy parabola of blood arcs from his wound and he grunts as he falls to his knees. With the last of his strength, he uses his working arm to propel a sword through a group of small, surprisingly well-kempt bushes. Under the fourth is a mass of dark red gristle. Without thinking, he lunges at it and holds it aloft. It's a heart, still glistening and bleeding. He pushes the mass of muscle to his dirt covered face and bites into the tough, hard meat. Like an animal, he jerks his neck to rend and tear his discovery, and dark blood falls onto his green shirt. He gags once, halfway through, but keeps swallowing regardless as the cold fleshy bolus judders down his throat. With the final swallow, he feels his body convulse in peristaltic spasms. The agony in his arm is magnified to greater intensities than he ever felt were possible to endure. With an exhausted look of terror, he stares at his arm. In the wound, he sees capillaries writhe like maggots and tendons jump towards one another. His arm jerks upwards, triggering an agony that threatens to kill him there and then. As he vomits still cold chunks of heart, he watches in a mix of giddy revulsion and unalloyed euphoria as the wound tightens like the drawstring on a sack. With one final gut wrenching twitch, his injury is completely sealed. His body glistening in sweat, he hyperventilates on the forest floor, staring up at a break in the clouds. Then he runs into someone's house and smashes up some pots.
This is awesome! :D

Takamura of Hajime no Ippo did (funnily enough, that series isn't TOO bullshity).
Even PS2 HanoI games are made with Real Life™ in mind (I doubt K.O. in very first seconds happens frequently on a professional ring).
But yeah, 1vs1 fighting games are built upon lies. ESPECIALLY Soul Edge etc. (face it, blade doesn't just deplete your energy bar; it mutilates and kills instead). Bushido Blade did the right thing. (Possibly Jedi Knight games with mods too.)
I consider tiny hitboxes in most bullet hell games to be the same kind of bullshit. For me, it just doesn't work.
