I grew up there and the downtown area still fucking baffles me. Then again, when I was there, 70 was 2 lanes the WHOLE fucking way, and it wasn't done w/ construction before I cruised. The drivers are still better than the other major cities I've lived in since leaving Texas though.robivy64 wrote:Had A nice little wreck on one of the major interstates in downtown Dallas earlier today.

Probably b/c you've never been there and apparently ignore all facts about it.moh wrote: I have NO idea why.

I think my buddy Brian had the best comment on living in Austin, in that it's great because no one in Austin is actually from Texas.GaijinPunch wrote:Probably b/c you've never been there and apparently ignore all facts about it.moh wrote: I have NO idea why.
Actually, Austin is an amazing blip in the sane realm.

I'm from the suburbs, which I'm sure is a huge difference from living closer to the city. Most of it in my experiences in growing up where stereotypes are extremely pronounced, and I followed almost none of them, except playing (American, of course) football. Then when you go to Austin and find that literally, nobody gives a shit about your hangups or even if you have any, it makes you question what the fuck everyone else's problem is. That was the case with me, anyway.robivy64 wrote:Not sure I understand the Texas bashing.
I do understand that some people (like myself) have always wanted to move away from the area they grew up in. Some will trash where they were raised because it is where they no longer desire to live.
Certain regions of Texas do suck, but what state doesn't have an armpit?
I like it out here in the metroplex, although I don't find myself in Dallas proper very often (except for events).
On topic: traffic = poop

Me neither, but it's only after being away for so long that I feel that I can appreciate it now. It really is a great place. I love Austin as well, but summer is fucking brutal. The only time I've ever felt heat like that was in Mexico. That, and it's got traffic jams on the magnitude of LA now. Dallas has pockets of liberalism.. just check out the Cedar Springs area or Oak Cliff.robivy64 wrote:Not sure I understand the Texas bashing.

Sounds exactly like my country. Except law enforcers do enforcement if they are in need of some extra money.CIT wrote:The thing about Brazil is that they have an excellent legal system and very good legislation to regulate everything, however... nobody gives a shit and nobody's there to enforce the laws either.

As for Ft. Worth, I went down to Magnolia near the hospital district, and that place is booming! There's a vegetarian restaurant, a bicycle shop, an Egyptian restaurant, a few gay clubs, etc.. I didn't even recognize the place from the last time I was there. This is Cow Town!!
Did a family photo shoot in the botanical gardens when I was there last. I found the Dallas Arboreteum to be way gooder.the bishops art district in OC is awesome. im commuting to lockheed in ftw daily. like ftw a lot more than dallas. ppl not as pretentious, nice museum, the omni, botanical gardens, kimbell. the op video is crazy. everyone i've known who has owned a bike was hit (no fault of their own).

Haha. Well, it sucks in the winter, I'm sure. This was Thanksgiving time. The Arboretum was still going pretty strong. My buddy had a season pass and told me, "You missed it last week. There was a hawk eating a grackle up on a limb in front of families and kids and everything..." Haha.Ed Oscuro wrote:yeah, that's real nice guys, wave your dicks about which place has the better arboretum when I'm staring at 5-6 months of shit and cold in the eye
