Any Intellivsion owners on here?...

Post by dave4shmups »

I've played a lot of Intellivsion Lives! on the Nintendo DS, and I LOVE the games! :D I'd love to get an Intellivsion, but I worry about how comfortable the controllers are; specifically the large circular d-pad. And, it's not like the Colecovision, where you can plug in a Genesis controller.

I've been told that the controllers on the Intellivsion II are even less comfortable, but I don't know if that's true.

The controllers on the original machine are fine Dave, and way ahead of their time. You're also missing some of the best games on the Intellivision Lives comp - Tron Deadly Discs, Lock n Chase, Nova Blast, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and an excellent version of Super Cobra being some if the best. I've got around sixty games but the macho e blew on me, I need to get another because its one console that emulation really doesn't do justice.

I have an Intellivision (and 20-something games) in my collection, and the controllers (specifically the disc-like d-pads) are rather awful compared to more modern gamepads, imho. Apparently the concept of ergonomics didn't exist back then.

Man it's 30-odd years old! Look at the rest of the controllers fro the same era - 2600 or 5200 sticks anyone? That controller was way before its time.

True! The Aquarius is pretty cheap, and interests me as well.

Sadly, the Aquarius is a pile of crap. Just compare the two versions of Deadly Discs. Only computer ever launched that was obsolete before it landed.

The disc-pad is uncomfortable. But the side buttons are worse. Keypad overlays will be oxidized and flaky by now, I'm guessing. Play the emulated releases for later consoles, on a TV.

I had both models of Intellivision, and I don't remember ergonomic differences.

Oddly enough, I received some Intellivision games a few years ago. Didn't have much use for them, but they just don't make box art like that anymore. :D

Last week a different friend gave me their Intellivision. Has two controllers but no cords. I'll have to look up what I need for power and A/V and take it for a spin.

The only thing that concerns me about the Intellivsion controller's circular d-pad is that it might rotate when I press on it. And, on that note, the d-pad on the Intellivision II looks like it would do that, because it looks really loose and flimsy.
