Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone
I have tbh - I've never had as much fun playing a bullet hell games as on DDP: Maximum on my WP7 phone, sacriligious as it may be, I'm just not very good at bullet hells with my stick and the easier/friendliness of playing it on my phone has actually made me kinda appreciate/understand the patterns more etc. I also really like the look of DDP: Maximum more than a lot of stuff. Are there any 'real' Cave shmups that look and play like it? And what would be the closest anyway in terms of patterns as I kinda feel like I know a few of them at this stage. I'm not that great but I've gotten 5-A final boss down to about 4 pixels left of health before my death.

haha I was fighting last boss in 5-A last night and a bloody reminder in my calendar came up in the middle of it - NOOOOOOOOSSSS!!!!VixyNyan wrote:It's tough to explain but it plays at a normal speed but the frame update is at 30fps, it isn't smooth 60fps like the other games. So yea, it's supposed to run at that rate. I'm playing it on WP7 tho, but it does start to drop a lot of frames (choppiness) if a "new message" pop up appears on the top of the screen. ^^;Wooph wrote:Is this supposed to be running at 30fps? The controls also don't quite feel like 1:1. It's a bit more sensitive than the other games.

Yea that Golden Disaster is not exactly a walk in the park (unless you hide in the left or right side of the screen most of the time, and slowly and carefully move sideways on the 2nd phase when the boss bullets "twirls" around), but keep at it, you can beat it. Not to mention that you only have the initial 3 lives to survive and then you are pushed back to the start of the stage.Raytrace wrote:'m not that great but I've gotten 5-A final boss down to about 4 pixels left of health before my death.

Updating my WP7 DDP Maximum.
Cool.
Anyone more knowledgeable can tell me where the cat comes from?
Any balance changes in the ships? As I mentioned, I have a feeling that the Orchid's shot was slightly improved in the last update. Or maybe I just got better at the game.

cool I'll try that - tbh 5-A is such a massive step up in difficulty from 4-A, which I was not expecting haha - I thought after the red circling things (i.e. that you can hit) 'comon after this it's gotta just be the final boss' - NOPE HAHA - middle boss, then a section with 2 ships that while not bosses have an EXTREMELY narrow area to avoid the pattern (just in the middle to the left after the red bullets go past) and then onto a bloody big wall/gate type thing, then and only then, well ok one last 'rush' bit - onto the Golden Disaster.VixyNyan wrote:Yea that Golden Disaster is not exactly a walk in the park (unless you hide in the left or right side of the screen most of the time, and slowly and carefully move sideways on the 2nd phase when the boss bullets "twirls" around), but keep at it, you can beat it. Yeah, stage 5 is a remake of DFK stage 5. They could have picked literally any stage in their entire library to remake, and they chose the absolute longest and hardest one they could think of. :VRaytrace wrote: cool I'll try that - tbh 5-A is such a massive step up in difficulty from 4-A, which I was not expecting haha - I thought after the red circling things (i.e. that you can hit) 'comon after this it's gotta just be the final boss' - NOPE HAHA - middle boss, then a section with 2 ships that while not bosses have an EXTREMELY narrow area to avoid the pattern (just in the middle to the left after the red bullets go past) and then onto a bloody big wall/gate type thing, then and only then, well ok one last 'rush' bit - onto the Golden Disaster.
EDIT: Lol, made it to Hibachi on the day I got the game. Didn't beat her though.

Considering DoTonPachi Maximum got its entire basis off this game I'm definitely looking forward to a friend with a supporting iPhone buying this and giving me a go at it. I don't own an iPhone myself unfortunately and I'd be very pissed off if I did the way Apple seems to like making their products redundant in 6 months.

It's a parody of the Uo Tarou character you could unlock with a code in Dangun Feveron. Uo Tarou was the main character of Uo Poko.hoagie wrote:Anyone more knowledgeable can tell me where the cat comes from?
I like how they named it UORATOU instead of Uo Tarou

I am pleasently surprised with DDP Max. It really is a nice game and is perfectly suited for touch controls. Also the score-attack like gameplay is ideal for a mobile device, where I usually play for only short amounts of time.
Well done, cave, well done. Please more of this.

yeppers I proper love it - and in fact through it making me being able to comprehend the way you would try to avoid the patterns, I actually played DoDonPachi for ages last night, normally with bullet hell type games, even though I 'appreciated' them, I could just never get ANYWHERE, this time I could at least get to the 3rd stageDrachenherz wrote:I am pleasently surprised with DDP Max. Yeah, it kinda lives up to its name: "bullet hell simulator"
It let's me play in the simulator to get better at the actual games, hehe

Beat stage 5 (any level) with Tiger Schwert and you'll unlock Orchid (one of the Akai Katana ships). Its special ability is replenishing bombs really fast.

Been trying the UORATOU (ie cat ship
) and TBH it's not really a "variable shoot" ship since most of the time you can't really stay in one place to use the focused laser.
I like it becase it's like the cat is cheering for you as you kill enemies XD
Bomb recharge time is bit above average. About Tiger Schwert's time.

We need a video or something from the guys who did it.

I don't have a means to record off my iPhone (but if someone would like to direct me to a way, I'd be interested).
I have seen exactly one video of Hibachi being beaten, and it's on Nicovideo: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm17837457
My pointers are basically what you see in the video: Get to Hibachi with a bomb charged so you can get through the opener. The second attack is the easiest, so get used to dodging it. For her third attack, the best strategy is to go right up to Hibachi and circle with the red bullets. This is easier than it sounds once you know where the initial safespots are. If you can get through to this point without bombing or dying, you'll beat the first phase without needing to do a full circle around her.
The second phase is fucking bananas. It's basically the DOJ final attack, but slower. You won't memorize it, you just need to be really good at reading and dodging.
Final protips: Pretty sure the laser ship is the only practical ship to use, as nothing else can handle the popcorn rushes in the stage as easily. Also, its raw DPS (which makes bosses die faster) is only beaten by Tiger Schwert, with the added bonus that you don't need to be close to things to do max damage. Although, the case could be made for Orchid, since you get bombs up the ass with that ship.

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone
One of the first Japanese gamers to beat all stages including Hibachi on WP7 was ele2424 back in May. I followed his trail 2 months later because I got a phone late but finally was able to play the game, so maybe I was the first European gamer to do it? I dunno, but it definitely isn't impossible as Giest faithfully points out. A friend of mine from Germany followed shortly after in August.
Just knowing the routes through the rotating enemies from DDP DFK and then stick to one side of the screen against Golden Disaster, you will hopefully have enough lives to stand a chance against Hibachi. If you have a Laser Bomb ready, for the love of god, do try to use it when you are in a pinch (specially for us that didn't have the Auto Bomb patch back then). I used Delta Sword (the "laser" ship Giest mentioned) to beat Stage 5-E.

Lol I beat Hibachi again.
Got through her entire first phase without dying OR bombing. Of course, the final attack still hammered me pretty hard. I should totally go for a no-miss run.
EDIT: So uh, I was looking through my play records and noticed an entry for something called "SP Round," and I was like, "the fuck is this shit?" So I started looking. I found that if you attempt to select stage 5-E in the Easy mode stage select (even though there appears to be nothing there, you can select the spot), you get to go to another, much harder variant on Easy stage 5-A. I don't know what the requirement is to unlock this stage, but I have it unlocked.
Wanna know what they did to make it harder? Ever play Ketsui's Ura loop? Yeah. They did that.
Guess who the fuck you fight at the end.

ok I finally beat 5A - I know it aint much but for me 'twas a massive achievement - I have to say I know it may be better, but I can't play with that Tiger Shwarz ship at all, I always get confused with ships that shoot so much, I end up not being able to avoid stuff.
I did 2-B also, a good bit harder than 2-A IMO, more of a difference than I thought it would be.

Updated my iPod today after seeing faginrs500's video saying it was now out on iOS and I can't play it because it requires a "digital compass".. i.e my device is redundant and old. Sod off apple - I am not buying another one.
However, I picked up "Blissful Death". I can stomach Resurrection as I actually got that before I was able to get a PAL release of DFK and it kinda works on a phone due to DFKs forgiving nature... but seriously - what the hell is with all that DLC crap? I can pay for faster hyper gain... second loop access.. SHOT POWER?
You can't experience DaiOuJou on a phone. It's just not right. Auto bombing.. auto hypering... not to mention the utter awkwardness of the opening stage 1 chain.. "shot on, shot off... shot on.. shot off.. shot on.. shot off... move over to the powerup ship... popcorns on the right quick laser the bee... GAH WHERES MY CHAIN GONE..."
Getting hyper is retarded. Certainly not one of my favourite Cave ports!
</fanboy rant>

That wouldn't surprise me. If the Special Round isn't harder than stage 5-E, then damn it, it's trying its hardest.geremy wrote: I wonder what the to unlock this is. Maybe you have to beat stage 5-E in normal...
Suicide bullets. All of the suicide bullets. And thanks to a generally lower enemy count, you don't get as many bombs.
Not to mention IT ENDS WITH EVACANEER DOOM
