I wish I could. My current roommate has been a friend for ten years as well, but he just does not understand that it costs money to live. It was one thing when he was unemployed and I had a job, but now that I'm unemployed as well I need cash coming in for the bills. My kingdom for someone who will pay rent and isn't a bum.moh wrote:no way of finding a new roommate?drauch wrote:Yeah, I used to live alone and it was the best time of my life. I loved it so much. Not currently, really. I don't really know anyone else that would need a place to stay at the moment. Been searching and searching for a better job for the past half year or so, and whenever I can find one, he'll get one last chance...

I have no choice when it comes to roommates here since I don't own the house. The owner owns several town homes and rents out each room - and makes a killing from this. She used to get decent tenants until the financial collapse. Now it seems she finds them on skid row and, somehow, they sign leases

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Nowadays, in movies and TV shows, nobody has a ringtone on their cellphone anymore, but a vibrate sound that can be heard over loud conversations. Yet, it's still better than brand specific tones being used and when the phone's shown, IT'S A DIFFERENT BRAND. If the owner's Chuck, a nerd, it's possible that he's put the old Ericsson tone on his iPhone, but for a CIA analyst to do it, that's just nuts.

People like my mother who watch films/movies on TV with adverts when the DVD or blu ray is sitting right there.
People like Sony who force you to update your PS3 firmware and change the power settings to something that turns off the machine before a single movie has ended (I have 3 PS3's so its more annoying).
And recently I noticed my cars high beam highlights fog more than the low beam WTF. You can't even see the fog without high beam on, you turn it on and suddenly.. FOG! There must be some twisted logic behind this.

My family does this en masse: we have piles of tapes and DVDs sitting around but they only watch the movies when they're on TV.neorichieb1971 wrote:People like my mother who watch films/movies on TV with adverts when the DVD or blu ray is sitting right there.
While I'm here, I might as well complain about the irritating tendency for stores/services/etc. nowadays to advertise their product, no matter what it is, not as [product name] but "MY [product name]", which can be bought at "YOUR [store]", as if everything they make is custom-tailored to every consumer's needs. It's basically a "Your call is very important to us, please stay on the line" that's EVERYWHERE.

You can't fault 'em for truth on that one though: they truly do believe, in their heart of hearts, that you totally deserve just that.undamned wrote:Oh, and don't forget the "You deserve [product name]!" marketing. Really? I deserve to go into debt to buy this new car? Thanks, company x!

Also along those lines, instruction text that substitutes "enjoy" where "eat" or "drink" or "serve" would be the logical verb. As in "shake well before enjoying".

Well one of my PS3's YLOD. Thats the end of praising my 60gb's machines. Although 6 years in I suppose one of them had to go eventually.
One of my blu rays is stuck inside as well. I've had such a shitty day everything has gone wrong. Its 3 minutes to midnight. Hoping for a better day tomorrow. Its pay day, thats a good start.

I have an appreciation for things that are well built, I expect a machine that costs several hundred dollars to last a bit more than 6 years. frankly, it makes sony's engineers look foolish.neorichieb1971 wrote:Well one of my PS3's YLOD. On another note, I also find that no matter how shitty things may seem. They never seem as bad the next morning.
I hope things get better, bud.

Doing a search for a new Micron SSD
Top three results: Manufacturer's page, and Hot Hardware and AnandTech reviews.
Fourth result: "Micron's RealSSD P320h PCI Express SSD gets reviewed - Engadget"
But not by you, fucking posers. Engadget, content-free leeches of the tech world. But that's pretty much the model across all the Gawker sites.

Fuckin' last second bidders (or the programs they use) on ebay. Only bidder for 6 days. Very last second some twat blows me away. If you're out there, person who outbid me on Money Puzzle Exchanger, I hope you choke on it.
Really, just ebay in general anymore. I think I only use it for BIN stuff anymore. Almost impossible to win an auction. Always some asshole and a program who are willing to pay more than it's worth.

eBay has always had regulations against overcharging for shipping, though it's not going to put you in good stead with any seller to point this out.

It's not American sellers being dicks, it's the US postal service.moh wrote:for some reason, americans think that canada is on the other side of the planet..

The USPS rates for shipping to Canada are outrageous. In my experience, shipping north of the border costs at least twice as much as a domestic US shipment. Based on the prices I've seen on the boards, it looks like the same is not true when shipping from CA to the US. I'm not sure why this is. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself:

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Gabe, we understand the costs of international shipping, but believe me it does not cost $40 to ship a game in a bubble mailer to Canada. In fact it costs about $6-8 depending on the quality of the package (actual cost of my friend's shipping stuff to me). This is a fair price that we have no problem with. I also don't mind playing $40 to ship a bigger box. The problem is the numerous people who price their shipping well in excess of the actual cost. If you can show me it's the price to ship something, then I don't mind paying.
And a new personal annoyance, Job Interviews. I hate them, but they're my future until I find work. Spending today building a virtual lab to refresh my tech skills. FYI I hate Subnetting.
