Missing components on a PCB

Post by nem »

I recently got a scrap Sega gun cabinet. I'm fixing it up, however, the biggest issue is the gun sensor board is missing some components. These boards are stupid expensive so I'll at least try to fix this one before getting another.

Here's the board:

The two missing chips on the left are both Toshiba 74HC4066A. The pads look like shit, however, it's just the pic. Also, might as well mention here that the missing chips affect the 2P gun, 1P works just fine.

I already bought these from eBay. The original ones are SOPs, these are SOLs, so they are slightly smaller. It's a tight fit, however, the legs reach the pads.

I checked continuity on all the legs, everything was OK. I plugged it in, however, the 2P side still doesn't work.

Any reason why the chips from eBay wouldn't work?

Maybe they do - there could be another fault, your soldering could be bad (did you check for bridged pins) etc.

This is what I'm thinking.

I'm an idiot when it comes to these things, what do the numbers and letters signify on the top part of the chip? (as they're different on the chips)

Probably date and batch codes. Those look like the correct parts.

Alright, I guess I'll file this PCB under "for someone more technically savvy to look at"

Thanks man
