In search of game

Post by Troy »

Hello everybody ;] I came here searching for a game that came into my mind when I was talking with friend about games we played together when we were young. It's not that long ago by the way :D
I wasted looong time trying to find it, came across hundreds of games and googled images to see if it's the one I'm looking for. Same I did with games I found posted on this board. Nothing. So, basically you are my last hope ;] But let's stick to the topic, I'll point everything I know about this game, maybe someone will know.

-I played it about 13 years ago, on PC
-it was vertical, 2d, but with rather good graphics
-after every level you earned money, to use for new weapons, don't remember other upgrades etc
-there were ground units and buildings, able to hit with bombs
-everything destroyed gave money
-you couldn't control rockets and bombs you got, pushing fire just shoot them all
-there was a score list, and the points were in fact ur money, so spending it lowered your points
-there were upgrades "flying" on the map, always after last unit in wave(not every wave, of course)
-all these upgrades looked like a ball, with graphic of bonus or weapon inside
-there was a special bomb destroying everything that was on the screen
-original game was on black CD, no install, no saving, just put in and play ;d
-the gameplay was slow, but seemed hard for me then ;d
-probably it was possible to buy health and use it ingame, but I'm not sure about this...
-it was possible to buy/find shooting robots or something that fly near ship and shoot all the time

I remember many things about it, just the title... ask, post everything that come to your minds, maybe it will be it... I'm really thankful in advance to everyone who will try, I'll buy 100 litres of beer to person who find it :D

Sounds like Raptor, although the last point is like something belongs to Tyrian instead (sidekick). Demonstar has no shop stuff like that.

Demonstar isn't one of the games he's talking about. only Raptor and Tyrian come to mind. although Demonstar is made by the same company who made Raptor... Tyrian is free now, btw.

Thanks for replies ;] Although noone of these game are this I was talking about, Raptor is very similiar to it. Only hint that comes for my mind is that graphics were (much) better (destroyed buildings give very similiar effect, by the way, I mean this fire, but I remember them disappearing after being destroyed), and I don't remember that many options in menu, not even player name I think.
I got something useful... after completing each level game gave a password to next level, which was also pretty useless since it was even harder as you had less money. No continues, etc, as far as I remember...
Blind shot also would be that black was the dominating color everywhere, besides game of course, but it can be my imagination only ;]

I'm trying to think of DOS shmups that have a money/weapon buying system and I can't think of too many other than Raptor, Tyrian 2000 and Stargunner (which is a hori, not a vert).

Could it be Final Impact? Haven't played it and can't find videos but it seems to be a DOS vert that's dark, has a money system, etc. It also supports 2 Player coop.

More screenies + video.

*sigh* the release date for that game is 11 years ago. 2 years after he says he played the game he's looking for. also: that game doesn't describe any shop function either.

Sigh all you want, I'm only throwing out suggestions
Op mentions 'about' 13 years,he could be more or less, I couldn't find a better description of the game
I have star monkey somewhere, its been quite some time since I played it,
I dunno why I seem to think it had a shop?!?
maybe I'm confusing it with something else

It's tough finding a game you can't remember the name of, isn't it? I've had my share of games like that.

That's not a starmonkey :>
I'll be in my home in few days(moved out not so long ago, thought I won't have time to come back there that fast) so I'll try to find the CD, it should be somewhere (although I haven't seen it for years :D )
I'll post back then.

Slight hijack: there's this arcade game I just can't remember the name.

It's a rail shooter, with a woman piloting a futuristic bike. You shoot lasers and missiles. After about 3 or 4 stages, you enter a big vessel, your bike is upgraded to a red ship while a screen shows you the incoming boss' weak point. After you defeat the boss your ship reverts back to the bike. The game was also ported to the Genesis.

Any ideas?

It certainly couldn't be Burning Force. Check lots of games, but not Burning Force, because that's definitely not it.
