This has been discussed actually - the custom shells are plenty expensive, and they have a custom PCB manufacturing setup (ROM write + something else?); system11 is just being gentle with the response. Probably more gentle than a "hurf I show up to other peoples' weddings and complain about the size of the cake" type post warrants!

Question time: How many MVS / AES carts are out there in a typical release? (For Gunlord, that'd be two AES releases, given the Japanese and US-style ones.)

Including custom PCBs (Gunlord, and probably this game also, has a mini-USB port for updates) and new shells. No "sac" parts here.

I've always thought it'd be darn interesting to see how somebody with years or even decades of experience would stack up against your typical late 80s-early '90s game programmed on the run...and there's no sign NGDev is slowing down, obviously; it feels like Gunlord was just released!

This looks absolutely gorgeous. Really hope I get to give it a go. The only NGDT game I've managed to play is the iOS port of Fast Striker.

That's great news of a proper MVS shmup with tate...about damn time one was released. Makes me wonder if the original Neo-Geo dev team ever considered releasing such a proper tate shmup title during the MVS' heyday?

I do recall some questions asking if such a tate MVS shmup were possible during the development of MVS Fast Striker some time back here on the Shmups forums.

Will this MVS XYX LE Arcade Coin-Op version come with the proper coin-up/credit option this time around?

And will screen flipping option be included for those cab owners with older arcade cabs that have arcade monitors that rotate in the opposite direction? Is something to seriously consider. Some of those older Jamma PCBs from the late 1980s had such screen flip option so arcade owners/operators could flip the screen properly regardless of the monitor's rotation mechanism (i.e. Konami's A-Jax circa 1987 comes to mind which was quite versatile as it could accomodate a traditional upright cab or even a cocktail-table styled cab for that matter -- with the proper 180 rotated screen for players 1 & 2 taking turns, of course).

I recall that the MVS Fast Striker 1.5 LE version came shipped (always set on "Free Play" mode) without the coin-up/crediting option that was included in the rarer MVS Coin-Op version of FS ver 1.5. Of course, with the MVS Coin-Op FS, either Free Play or coin-it-up option was selectable on the Operator's Menu screen via dipswitch setting.

I think it's really cool that we still see games like this being made for the Neo Geo.
Much like the Dreamcast, it never truly dies.

A screenflip option would require hardware support for it, which the NEOGEO does not have. We used the same degree as all Cave games, which should be pretty much the standard :wink:

Yes the game has full coin support, as every other of our games, except the first print of Fast Striker.

@Mice

It's way to early to think about the NEOGEO-X handheld. Before it has an install base of >10k it wouldn't be of interest anyway. Besides that, there are a lot of issues with this thing..

Spotted something funny on the XYX product page:
May have bruises on cartridge shell. The shells are factory new though.
Anybody who complains about this needs to be bruised (so, how many Neo Geo forumers does that imply?) although I wonder if those couldn't be buffed out easily.

I don't know man. It contains not one, but two instances of X, which is the X-treme of all the letters of the alphabet.

It's basically saying the game is EXTREME^2, which is about as EXTREME as you can get.

The only way it could get more in there is if there some Z's added, like if it was called ZXYXZ: THE QUANTUM RECKONING.

The record still remains with Xexex as the most extreme game ever created.

XYX makes me think of chromosomes, actually... :lol:

NG:DEV team is too humble, they should actually set up a proper franchise around this instead of making it so anonymous. Well...I could be wrong about that. It's kind of hard to laugh at the name; it's not like Wii after all.
