I'd like to address this part as well. It's not other people, it was/is one specific individual who also happens to be a bit of a stalker. And it's nasty how that works. Keep repeating something often enough and people start to think there may be some truth to it. This is basically how Goebbels' propaganda worked, as well (sorry, fitting analogy, no Godwyn's law here). One example: From 1927-1932 a German lawyer named Bernard Weiss was vice president of the Berlin police, who frequently clashed with the nazi party and had many of its members arrested. Weiss was Jewish, and to better stress this point, Joseph Goebbels, future nazi minister of propaganda, started to villify him and call him "Isidore" in his speeches and newspaper articles. And it worked quite well, people started to believe his name really was Isidore. Weiss sucessufully sued Goebbels for libel over 60 times, (Wikipedia incorrectly says 40), and even prevented Goebbels from publically speaking on several occasions, but "Isidore" stuck nonetheless.

I wasn't the only one to notice or comment on friendly's Sony PR activity, just like most will notice the obviousness of his recent comments where he makes a point to keep mentioning "On my Wii", "My 360" to try to avoid being tarred with the brush.

People have their pet peeves; no big deal. I kind of expect that people will champion cases, it's just a normal and healthy part of public discourse.

Vita as a PS3 controller...ehh...not sure. I don't really know what sort of special advantage (other than just synergy across products, i.e. more work for developers to create Pocketstation versions of games) using the Vita as a controller would confer.

Personally, when I get round to buying another PS3, it won't be this one. I'll go for the PS3 slim, it looks better imo, sturdier, sleeker. I wouldn't mind getting one of those LE ones if I could, the One Piece and Ni no Kuni versions are teh sex.

Sony's official statement about no price drop:

The electronics giant says it doesn't plan to make any pricing changes -- even to the now technologically inferior 160 GB model -- since it believes customers are tired of having to choose between differently priced systems.

"There's no price drop formally, but the thing that's been happening in the market over the last year or so is that there's been so many retail price promotions, and so many different gift card offers and all those things, being done by all of us (Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony), that we've heard from our consumer, 'Enough with all these weird price moves. What we really want is content and games and value,'" said John Koller, Sony Computer Entertainment America's VP of marketing, handhelds and home consoles, in an interview with Engadget.

Sony will offer four different PS3 models to consumers: the old 160 GB version for $250, a Super Slim 250 GB model for $270, and, crazy as it sounds, a 320 GB old model and a new 500 GB Super Slim model priced identically at $300. Because you hate price drops.

The Wii U seems like garbage, but if some guy had 300 bucks to spare, wouldn't he buy that instead? Not to mention most people assume(I think so also) that a new xbox system will roll out in 2013 with PS4 right behind it.

Well, their plan is indeed quite simple and actually makes sense when you think about it: They want to sell off the remaining Slim V1s first. As soon as the remaining stock is gone, you can be certain there'll be a price drop for Slim V2.

Nintendo can be pretty dumb.

Nintendo dropped the VB pretty quick (I remember magazine ads for it, heh). GBA backlights aren't any big deal; they just saved money there. However, the persistently shitty screens of their handheld series (up to at least the DS Lite) meant that one of the launch titles, Circle of the Moon, is still best played via a GB Player if you care about the look of some of that game's rather poorly designed high-contrast graphics. Micro was a niche product and it wasn't strongly pushed. Nobody cared about e-Reader; it was just a neat idea that probably made them money. 3DS second analog sticks - I don't know about these things, I just play vidya gamez.

So maybe one entry out of your list makes sense. If I had been putting together that list, I would have included "Nintendo misses the CD-ROM bandwagon (But My Cartridges Feel Fine)" and "Nintendo misses their market with the Wii," not to mention "Why is the Game Boy Pocket such a battery hog?" and "Why was GBA sound hardware so bad?" (Hint: backwards compatibility, dropped soon enough, of course; same story as the SNES CPU pretty much.)

The GBA's sound hardware was so poor because it was just 2 DACs for left and right, plus the GB sound hardware. Samples sounded like shit because they were mixed entirely in software while there was a game busy running, or they were being run on the GB wave channel [really rare, especially because of how bad that sounds, see LSDJ drums].

As for the shit screen, some total idiot decided to darken the screen for launch units compared to dev units [which supposedly had a color brightness similar to the GBC], so lots of launch titles were designed for the lighter screen, and even games designed for the darker screen suffered because it was so damn dark colorwise.


Also, Sony's rationale for this ass-retarded price is so poor, it bothers me. Didn't notice it last time I skimmed through this thread.
