I have noticed differences on Saturn vs. PS1 soundtracks. like on Radiant Silvergun, the music from the Saurn is more synthy, and on the OST there is the more fleshed out midid versions of the songs. Where as the PS1 seems to be able to play higher quality music like in Vagrant Story.

Since no-one else mentioned it: There is a reason people sell the PS1 port of Soukyu Gurentai for $10: it SUCKS very badly.

Either buy a Saturn and get the arcade perfect conversion or don't buy it at all. Soukyu is a great game, possibly the second best on Saturn, but the PS1 port is awful.

I like my ST-V cart :]

I tried out the PS1 version, and there are these voices at the beginning which I don't think are present in the ST-V one :\

edit: BTW I'm talking about Souky, not Silvergun...

is the PS1 version only inferior when compared to the Saturn version? or is it super glitchy in such a way that makes you want to pop the disk out and chuck it?

Agreed. The Saturn is a shooter fan's dream system. By all means, try to pick one up if you don't have one. Anyway, Einhander, and Thunderforce V are both excellent PS1 shooters. ;)

Only inferior to the Saturn version. Graphics take a hit, sound takes a small hit, but gameplay is all there. Plus the PS1 port gets that arranged mode with the extra ship and the voices/cutscenes, but that wasn't really a necessary addition. My biggest beef with it vs. the Saturn version is that the Dual Shock sucks the big one.

There's also more slowdown in the PS version.

Some fun things about G-Darius:

*Capture Balls. Exactly what it sounds like. Capture enemy ships and they're yours to command.

*Sacrifice. Convert captured enemy into either a bomb attack or giant killer beam attack.

*Killer beam attack. Use it at the right time against a boss, and you'll see a Dragonball-esque power struggle.

*Fleet Bonuses. Wipe out a line of enemies and get a bonus. This is (to my knowledge) multiplied x2 if your captured pets do the work, and x4 if done with a killer beam attack. (killer beam attack is the key to scoring, similar to G-Darius's spiritual sequel Border Down.)

*EPIC replayability. Has the signature Darius branch-off level select.

If you want some bang for your buck, get G-Darius. I still play my copy at least once a week.

About Soukyugurentai for PSX:

The very cool launch sequence at the beginning of level 1 is missing.
The graphics are less detailed overall. The camera hardly ever zooms in on the player and level-bosses like in the original, which changes the way the game plays greatly. The number of colors used is too small (most noticably in level 2). During the cloud-diving in level 3, which is a continuous sequence in the original there are noticable breaks and horrible slowdown (stuttering) when you reach the ground.
The PSX is simply to weak to handle all those sprites and multiple zooming layers at the same time.

To make up for this, they inserted fmv-sequences between each level which are unnecessary and totaly disrupt the flow of the game. They also inserted a female voiceover at the beginning and end of each level as well as dual shock vibrations for larger explosions - all this was uncalled for.

The Saturn port is arcade perfect. The PSX version is... crap-o-matic.

Saturns are cheap. Import adapters (for instance Action Replay) are cheap. There is no reason not to get a Saturn.

As I recall, all of what I quoted above is only valid for the arranged mode (the one where you can pick the yellow ship). The zooming makes the stage 3 boss a real sonuvabitch, too.

Sadly, all true. Pretty much all of the background graphics and zooming objects are half-resolution on the PSX version as well. Don't forget the removal of the transparent clouds during the cloud-diving stage, as well.

I didn't notice the color thing you mentioned, looks like I might have to do another comparison run sometime.

There no reason not to get the Saturn version over the PSX one if you've got both consoles. If you don't have a Saturn and no plans to pick one up, then the PS1 version is still an excellent game, even with the reductions in the port. Both versions are, I'd say, extremely cheap for what you're getting.

Try looking for both "soukyu-gurentai" and "soukyugurentai" in search engines. Play-Asia listed the PSX soukyugurentai as "soukyu-gurentai" when they had it. The Saturn version is generally considered the superior version, though.

I seriously doubt any sort of malice was intended there. Cool it.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Actually Ghegs is a moderator, and you're past the line. Please just cool it down. Before I forgot, offering to rip OSTs for people or offering any assistance with location of said rips, is also a big no.

Yeah, that's because the side spine on the PS version says SOUKYU-GURENTAI.

Souky for the PS1 is ok...just as long as you don't own a Saturn, or cannot get one.

As far as all the other games mentioned...they are nowhere NEAR what SilverGun is. Do not be mislead into thinking you're going to get a similar experience with any of these games.

The above quoted for context.

In normal social situations, people tend to moderate themselves according to the group they are with, including knowing when it's worth just dropping an issue. On the internet, a lot of people do exactly the same thing. There are others, who think it gives them a right (or think it makes it ok) to be a complete asshole - because well, they're more impressive that way. Equally hilarious is always the "ban me if you like boo hoo" reverse psychology thing. Hey buddy, I'm happy you're proud of being able to make people dislike you - great trick!

Here's some news for anyone following this - we DONT WANT TO BAN PEOPLE. It would be great if everyone could just chill out and use the forum for what it is. See the rules, if you decide you want to use the forum, then those are the rules to follow. If you don't like them, find somewhere else with other people more in line with your sensibilities, and don't waste your time and ours causing hassle and getting banned.
