BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (ARC/PS3/360?)
Yeah, it's yet another one of these. The game still has 4 iterations to go before it catches up with Guilty Gear X and progeny! However, this is not going to be your average fighting game revision:
- Tons of new animations, with every character's neutral standing pose redrawn (when was the last time a fighter did this?)
- 1 to 2 completely new specials for all characters except Valkenhayn
- Every character now has a Dark Force (Vampire Savior)-like unique ability mode
- All new music and stages
- Three new characters and a completely new version of Noel
As someone who likes the game but isn't a huge fan of its often arbitrary and gimmick-centric movesets, I'm pretty hyped for this. It seems like they're really making an effort to change things up, diversify play and make some serious improvements on the now stale Continuum Shift formula.
The one concern is that it seems the home port is going to be PS3-only this time. There was no mention of a 360 version in the press release. That's no longer a barrier to me getting the game, but it would mean I'd have to mod my stick or get a new one. And if they also release it as a DLC upgrade to Extend (the greatly preferable option), I'd have no choice but to pay full price. I guess this could also be a sign that we won't be seeing any revisions or new DLC content for Persona 4 Ultimate, which was also the case with Arcsys' previous two licensed fighters.

This game needs more GG manliness.
Never. FGs don't need that shit imo.- Tons of new animations, with every character's neutral standing pose redrawn (when was the last time a fighter did this?)

Sure they don't need that shit, but it looks cool and it's a little thing that helps prevent new iterations from feeling stale. Just like changing the lifebars and stages.
One thing I just noticed is that Mu and Lambda (as well as the old Noel) are completely gone. A bold but unnecessary move to keep the roster in line with story canon, I guess. I'm sure they'll be unlockables in the home port.

Admittedly, they also added a trap in a pink kimono to counter it.
(But really, I must seriously bring the manliness of Bridget and Testament into question.)

Never going to happen with Ishiwatari's tasteful artistic style painfully absent. But even then, the music sucks and that's still him so...KAI wrote:This game needs more GG manliness.

This soundtrack has Imperial Code, Nightmare Fiction, and Rebellion, so I disagree.ChainsawGuitarSP wrote:Never going to happen with Ishiwatari's tasteful artistic style painfully absent. But even then, the music sucks and that's still him so...KAI wrote:This game needs more GG manliness.
I also loved the art of the original CT. CS not so much.
Good thing Mori's doing the portraits for CP.
Bring on Dark Tsubaki!

Re: BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (ARC/PS3)
Nightmare Friction, Gluttony Fang and whatever Mu-12's theme was called were so bad that I never bothered listening to anything post CT again, which only had Rebellion, Queen of Rose and Blood Pain going for it to begin with. BTW, Mori was the one who did CT's art. That was OK, but I was referring more to the character designs themselves.
Either way, there's no reason to be looking forward to a new BlazBlue when we've got Guilty Gear AC+R and Aquapazza on the way.

Re: BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (ARC/PS3)
I don't understand how you can rag on Blazblue and express anticipation for intensely boring stuff like Aquapazza at the same time.
I just zoned out every time I tried to watch match videos of it. It's like someone crippled Arcana Heart. I've also heard that some Japanese tournaments have been composed almost entirely of Touka players, so you can look forward to that.
And perhaps you should wait to actually see CP's mechanics and characters in practice before deciding if they're worth looking forward to? This is going to be a far more dramatic overhaul than the game has ever seen before. I mean, I just found out that guard primers have been removed! Instead you can use 25% meter to guard crush at any time if your opponent isn't barrier blocking. That's certainly going to change the entire flow of the game, and prevent turtling even more than Negative Penalty.
About Ishiwatari's BB music...definitely a huge step back from GGXX, but I quite like Thin Red Line, Rebellion, Love So Blue, and Active Angel, among others. I'll be interested to hear what he has in store for CP.

Re: BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (ARC/PS3)
Likewise, I fail to see how you could rag on Aquapazza for being a crippled Arcana Heart when BlazBlue is just that to Guilty Gear, with its own major balance problems to boot. I dunno where you got your AP matches from, but the ones I saw were far more intense than anything I've seen from high level BlazBlue considering the flow of the fights are still fairly fast in comparison despite having (almost) NO AIR-DASHES!
I'll not deny that the mechanics overhaul has piqued my interest, but the gameplay and other things I mentioned are still actively painful to sit through.

I don't know where I'll get enough money for a PS3 + this game + a J-XBOX for this winter...
PD: About the music... well... let's say that I don't hear the music when I'm playing BlazBlue... there isn't a single BGM that inspires me...

Haven't seen much of that. Pretty sure that Arakune has the most visually inventive animations of any BB character, and his design has some unusual elements like the bees and bones that aren't common to amorphous blobs. Really, he's more aesthetically interesting than his predecessor Zato-1/Eddie. Bad choice for your argument.
But yeah, Azrael = Regal is dead on. I guess they're really running out of original ideas for characters.

Re: BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (ARC/PS3)
Like I've always said.
Guilty Gear does everything better than BB. Character design, balance, gameplay, music. There really isn't anything I can think of that BB does better except in the graphics department(only in resolution, still prefer looking at GG since the character designs and moves in that game are better looking). And no both stories are shitty
BB is just a watered down version of GG. Like going backwards in terms of what GG established as an excellent fighting system.
Although I am sort of interested to see how the BB team wants to speed the game and make it less long combo heavy. But it's much too late at this point since GG is coming out on live / psn so at this point all my fucks for BB are gone.
If you were really into GG then it's really hard to play BB without getting annoyed. I seriously can't get hyped in any BB matches.
I'm not even nitpicking when I say BB does everything worse than GG, it's a HUGE downgrade. So much so that I started playing SF4 which is completely different from GG. That's how disgusted I was with what arcsys making a mockery of the GG system. Claiming BB was the new GG is fucking bullshit.

Espgaluda III needs to happen.

there doesn't even need to be a new bb, we've got p4 and a new ggxxac revision coming

What I never understood about this statement is how exactly you're supposed to be inspired in order for the music to be good. It's music, it's them telling you the story they want to tell. Listeners don't have to be "inspired" or whatever the fuck; that element has little to do with raw quality, it is a magical thing that people like you take for granted so hard that you may as well oppose it. Fucking pseudo-intellectual scam like all those other scams.O. Van Bruce wrote:there isn't a single BGM that inspires me...

And Under Night In-Birth is coming next month:

Finally a video showing the game's mechanic.
looks good and sounds good (Gordeau's theme sounds fucking awesome, Raito rules!)
And no one is saying "this is the new Melty Blood", BB has a lot to learn.

I get it guys, you don't like BB. Lock this thread, mods.
I have to lol at Chainsaw deciding characters' entire aesthetic merits on single pieces of promo art, though.

Re: BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (ARC/PS3)
As a Tager player, you don't really turtle. You try and press your opponent back into the corner, your slow normals mean you invariably have to take a "counter-punch" kind of style to heart, and when you do get a chance, deal massive massive damage. Because of that it can seem like you turtle with Tager, but it's not true turtling.cj iwakura wrote:Haven't seen much of that.
