I now understand a lot more. Thanks for the post...

First reasonable score prior to the scoring breakdown:

culdad78 - 6,575,300 - 1-4 - PCB

The value of cancelled bullets is affected by the size of gold you pick up, which increases every time you get 100 gold. Basically, when you get the gold meter up to the max of 1000, you get the largest value of gold from enemies and thus the most points (which in turn is further boosted by gathering a lot at once in Kakusei with x100 bonuses). You lose 1/2 of your gold counter when you die, and 1/4 if you use an autobomb (get hit while in Kakusei with bomb meter remaining). So, getting the counter up to 1000 as quick as possible and keeping it there is necessary for high scores.
Is it necessary to be in kakusei overdrive to build gold level? I'm sure I could figure this out in a moment though.

No - overmode is really only needed to build the overmode meter, ideally maxing it out on the second phase of the stage 1 boss. Earning gold by killing enemies with the standard Kakusei increases the overall value of gold you collect in the future every time you collect 100 gold. Basically, the gold values go up in 100 increments.

Guide's accurate for the most part (except Tateha is technically stronger, her laser actually does more damage due to the piercing bullets she fires on either side which hurt even more than Ageha's laser, and her kakusei mode shot appears equally strong as Ageha's kakusei laser if you're pointblanking a large target).

Very pleased with this run even if it's only a 2 mil improvement. First time I can remember no missing up to 5-2, although I messed it up and died. The last few phases of the final boss went especially well; very pleased with how I handled his last set of attacks.

I still need help improving my stage scores, especially wish I knew what I was doing wrong on Stage 1. Also probably need to study videos to see how to properly score later, especially on 5-1 and 5-2.

Will probably stick to using the more score-oriented Ageha now and push for at least 40 mil, would be nice to improve to 50!

I've been meaning to work on 1CCing this for ages. Have been to the final boss before but need to get back into shape. Watching the replays that come with the PS2 disc helped me get over 5 mils by the end of Stage 2, but after that I should just focus on surviving so I can have a chance at beating the game.

No miss to the kind-of-final-boss and then it went pear shaped, but still, finally got the clear! This game shits me up more than basically any other shooter.

There's a 'trick' with the stage 1 midboss where you point-blank it with the bomb to kill it very quickly, get a bunch of gems, and you switch to kakusei and get more tanks to milk for delicious gold.

Get it? Gold milk?

Hmm, rank ended up differently than when I save-state practiced this boss. Pretty heavily changed the pattern I died on. Weird.

Pretty much everything went downhill after my first death :/

It's not rank; quite a few bosses have random variations of certain patterns. It's really annoying on the ST2 midboss, as one pattern is worth a lot more points than the other :(

Slight improvement.

Zengeku - 21,830,260 - Ageha - 6 - Shmupmame 2.2

Now if I could stop dying retarded Galuda deaths on Stage 4 it would be nice. Most recent run had me die twice there even though NMNB of the stage is no problem for me. Still didn't get the Stage 3 extend though I've found it now. I'll 1cc this game later.

If I had just researched the 1up location before starting this I would've 1cc'd in the first run of the week but whatever. Shit happens.

It's not that bad. The St2 Midboss is the only one that seriously affects scoring, and the stage 4 boss's first phase's two variations (whether or not it shoots out pods when you're forced up to the top of the screen) aren't terribly tricky. From what I can tell, there's no serious variation in the 5-1 and 5-2 bosses' attacks.
