You guys forgot about Shirley Manson. Try not to cry when you hear this.

This guy Pat Grossi really blows me away too. Great singing.

Pfft, Jon Chang is obviously the most beautiful voice in music. I go to sleep to this every night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lx-V4t-9d9M

Not THE most beautiful, but went to see Natasha Khan at The Junction in Cambridge on Wednesday night, and thought she was pretty amazing.

I've always thought it was that Korean guy who does the karaoke vids on youtube.

Search for "tuts my barreh"

But seriously ... most beautiful voice ... let's pick something obscure and go with that French Joyce chick

Male: Mark Lanegan. Other male singers I really like are Russell Allen (for his extreme versatility) and of course Dio.

Female: Aretha Franklin.

I'm going with

Stevie Wonder - http://youtu.be/b2WzocbSd2w
Nina Simone - http://youtu.be/GUcXI2BIUOQ
My personal favorite though is Elizabeth Fraser - http://youtu.be/S7_GB9R43T4
Sade is very impressive to me as well. - http://youtu.be/p-xHzwbM7Uw

Oh good pick, have you heard his duet albums with Isobel Campbell?

I could list names for half an hour here, but I'll just put a few in from the top of my head that nobody has mentioned yet:

Norah Jones - Lovely voice, her solo work is so easy to listen to, but check this duet out with Dave Grohl:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVJ_UQJ87lQ

Caro Emerald - Brash and confident singing with the voice to back it up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QUmPZmkr4I

James Brown - amazing performer. He didn't sing the music, he voice was the music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHqUipinDyw

Kim Wilde - swept up in the seas of the 80s, but she was a bit special.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxWrk7djlhE

Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) - this man has an incredibly versatile voice. Death growls from the gates of hell one minute, soft ballad work the next. This is my favourite Opeth track by a long way, make sure you listen to it all rather than saying 'ugh - doom' in the first 20 seconds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vjg7dQhARY

Beth Gibbon (Portishead) - another vocal chameleon, shame the first Portishead first album was their best (easily).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF-GvT8Clnk

Anna-Varney Cantodea (Sopor Aeternus) - not born female, highly eccentric, she makes some of the most varied and interesting music I've heard. A warm and smooth but terribly frail voice, but prone to sharp theatricals when you least expect it, or crumbling away with sorrow. Amazing, possibly one of the greatest singers hardly anyone will know.

Jeff Lynne (ELO) - His was the main voice behind ELO, probably one of the best and easily identifiable rock voices of all time, not far behind Freddie Mercury in my book (who was the best but is already listed here).
