Ys Origin
Having a lot of fun with this. Gamepad controls are super tight, combat is quick and satisfying, music is fantastic and the blend of 2D/3D is deliciously old school, but still looks amazing at 1680x1050.

Blend in some light puzzling and platforming, and this is 100% awesome in my books.

Re: Ys Origin
I love the Ys series, but not a fan of this game. The HG101 review should give you a good idea why.
Suppose I can't complain, because I got it free from a Groupon Japan promotion ages ago.
They have made one major improvement for the English version: you no longer have to beat the game with both Yunica and Hugo to access The Claw's story.

Re: Ys Origin
I love the game personally, imported a copy from Falcom a while back and bought the copy on Steam. Fantastic game imo.

Hmm when I started a new game only Yunica and Hugo were selectable. I think you have to finish the game once in order to unlock him?Op Intensify wrote:I love the Ys series, but not a fan of this game. The HG101 review should give you a good idea why.

Loved Oath in Felghana and I'm completely in love with this game too. It just hits all the right buttons for me.
Playing on nightmare difficulty the first time through the game was a really fun experience.

Re: Ys Origin
To be clear, he meant you can now finish the game with only one of the two characters to play as Claw. In the original release, you have to complete both Yunica and Hugo's stories first.shmuppyLove wrote:Hmm when I started a new game only Yunica and Hugo were selectable. Whether you really want to play as Claw without completing both Yunica and Hugo first is another question.

I did read something spoiler-ish in the HG101 article so I wouldn't want to ruin it any more than that.

Re: Ys Origin
Again, Falcom doesn't disappoint. The translation on XSEED's version is up to their usual standards, also.
Origin may be a bit more linear than Felghana but there's still loads to like. The quest's length is still decent IMO.
I've almost got Yunica's quest done- Hugo is probably next for me. The wind skill is probably the one I've used most- it's a rush to clear out a swarm of slime blobs using it.
It wouldn't surprise me to see XSEED follow with Xanadu Next, Trails in the Sky, or Napishtim.

Re: Ys Origin
I think Konami still has a hold on Napishtim, but I'd love to see Xanadu Next or the Trails in the Sky sequels come over.
Re: Ys Origin
I downloaded this a few years back illegally i might add
but never got around to trying it, from what ive read is the game is pretty epic so i think when i get paid this friday I'm gonna buy it on Steam regardless.

Where could I E-mail or mail to if I want to address my ideas and Opinions?
Re: Ys Origin
I got the JP Vista version a year and a half ago, never got around to playing it even months after applying the English patch. Seeing this thread inspired me to finally just do it.
God DAMN. This game is sweet. Plays just like Oath in Felghana but that's totally fine by me. I might even go back and play through the whole series again once I'm done with this.

Re: Ys Origin
I agree with the HG review, but I still enjoy the game, although (obviously) not as much as the other Ys games for PC.
