Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
I think the whole "character difficulty" thing is pretty subjective anyway.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Hahahahaha what the shitBPzeBanshee wrote:hs_padas_e.exe now reports a "'TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen" according to Avira AntiVir.
The description of that is that it's packed/encrypted somehow now. Once again no code has changed, not even a byte. There is no packer, there is no encryption.
Piece of junk.
Googling around shows this is a very common false positive on its part too. So I'm not going to worry too much about this anymore.
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Banshee: dude, let me tell you what makes Minogame so easy to play. Hold down the main shot until your secondary weapon is charged to level two (marked by the synthetic voice saying something that sounds like "super shot"). Then, without letting go of the main shot button, hit the secondary weapon button. Four words: Nimbus Cluster - Golden Nirvana. That's the name of the attack that makes Minogame so broken, and I just told you how to unleash it. A 3 second invulnerability sphere on about a 5 second cooldown. It allows you to stand at the middle of Rusted Dragon's Fire Breath supermove and do other bullspit all the time. Basically you hardly ever have to dodge things anymore if you use it skillfully.
It's funny that you say that you find Dead Liar the easiest one to use, as I find him to be the hardest. Harder than Fossil Maiden. Which is a shame, because he and Tobari-maru seem to be a talkative lot which makes watching his replays a bit more interesting.
(Seriously though, now: that mid-segment chatter scrolls too fast.)
Okay, that flashy bonus boss in the Shrine is now named Ed The Endlessly Accelerating Undertaker. Or Fast Eddie for short.
The fun part is: in the monologue after completing the Shrine, the executor complains about missing or forgetting an important message received while exploring the, uh, "place". Well I guess it's not the wacky name of the bonus boss, then. Perhaps it's those messages from the "relics" you fight, which appear as glitching pieces of blue text... I think that funky text appears four times per relic + 1 per each keystone (kaname stone = keystone, right? they still look like stone strawberries with lightning wrapped around them to me...), so that could actually be a lot of text. I wonder what it says.
Or maybe there never was any important message in text format to begin with...
Yeah, what are those "scary" "stuppas" anyway, Matteste? What does "stuppa" even mean? They look kinda coffin-shaped, but then again, there are Coffins in segment 1 of Hellsinker. I wouldn't think too hard about that. | Oh okay, Wikipedia says they are pretty much burial places, reliquiaries of buddhas... I guess... I'm not sure if there ever was more than one buddha ("perfectly enlightened one", IIRC), but reading up on Hinduism, which is basically the religion which influenced and was influenced by Buddhism to a large degree, neither are the Buddhists.
Still, what are those stupas doing in the Shrine? Ah, seriously, let's not overthink it. We have cooler things to obsess about. Like the actual story.
(Does the phrase "KITTY GARLAND" ring any bells?)
BTW Matteste, you seriously need to get someone or something to spell-check for you, man. You make tons of typos on the TvTropes Hellsinker page. And I know RNG says TvTropes sucks, but I think he's wrong. TvTropes is a nice page and all, quite fun to browse, just so long as you don't meet, look directly at, or talk to the user base on the page. I mean, I learned about Hellsinker while browsing TvTropes, so I guess it's a good thing that article is there. I don't think I would have gotten to know it had it not been on the wiki. Seriously, keep up the good work, man.
I've cut the post in half because walls of text aren't cool. I'll post the rest on a later date when someone breaks up that block of tomfoolery with something that is not me spergin' about the game.

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
The level 2 version is called Golden Vacuum - Nirvana actually. Nimbus Cluster is just the name of the level 1 variant. And while it makes Minogame pretty straightforward when playing just to survive, I think he's one of the harder characters to play for score due to him being unable to rely on it both for best damage output and to milk the most spirits out of enemies. The only thing Golden Vacuum is really good for is making needle grazing with Forbidden Shell a little easier. The worst part is he doesn't have a misteltoe or other option to allow him to catch every single crystallized spirit at the end of the Shrine of Farewell. That fact in particular seems really unfair.Cadrin wrote:Four words: Nimbus Cluster - Golden Nirvana.

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Honestly, I found Fossil Maiden was the easiest to get through the game with, but I've always been the one to feel most comfortable with oddball character picks. The other gs.o guys used Minogame or Kagura. (None of us used Deadliar, so we just cheated through the game to get all that tested, haha.)
It sounds like there is another patch revision in the works, mostly minor bugfixes and visual fixes. I want to state that if nothing major changes we are most likely not updating the translation. That's 25-35 hours down the tubes for me to get everything updated and tested thoroughly and I just don't have that kind of time/dedication for it now. However, nothing should break in the existing translation and it should work fine even over newer versions.

I know My english typing is not that good and I want someone to spell check it but it seems as I am the only one working on it. While my spoken english is next to flawless I can't say the same for my typing. Then again, my swedish typing is'nt that good either.Cadrin wrote:BTW Matteste, you seriously need to get someone or something to spell-check for you, man. Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Yeah, it's called Golden Vacuum - Nirvana. But it's also referred to in Minogame's "details" subsection as Nimbus Cluster Yellow Blank. Personally, I like the former much more.
Matteste: I've been watching a series of videos on YouTube by the user CrazyGoggs, quoting people from the now discontinued Troper Tales section of the wiki. It made me strangely fascinated and attracted to the wiki. I might one day become a... Troper... to help you with your spelling, since that's the only thing I'm good for as far as English is concerned.
But I'd rather not do that.
Anyway, the rest of the block of text was me marveling at the story of the game.
It amazes me, reading the first four pages of this thread, just how much of the important stuff we've managed to get about right through the use of ghetto methods like Google Translate. And for some peculiar reason I feel no closer to figuring out the story now than I was back then. Okay, maybe slightly more so. So let me just paste the remaining part of that post and be done with it...
Because what the fsck, man. The story. I've unlocked the final dialogue (On the edge of circle) earlier that day. Oh God, don't get me started on the story of this game. It's even weirder than the scoring. And that's saying something. Though it certainly makes some sense, but it's really esoteric and mysterious. Plus what the hell, even though it's written in English now, I feel like I hardly know more than back when people were trying to translate that stuff from Japanese on their own. Now I understand why that benevolent Jap who had visited this thread earlier, Shinimai, said that even he - a native language user, after all - had problems trying to understand everything. It's definitely not very clear.
I DARE you guys to make up your own interpretations of what exactly happens during Segment 8 and the Extra Stages. Here's my attempt at that:
(SPOILARS AHEAD, also tons of guessing)
I feel like I hardly understood anything of what I've read from the final pieces of information unlocked by beating the Extra Stages. But an idea appeared, based more on gut feeling than words, so here goes: mayhap it was the kitten's fault after all. I think it went down like this: everything was fine and dandy and the Hellsinker kept churning out good karma for all living things like no tomorrow, as usual, until someone (who exactly, we don't know) lost their cat there, in the Cardinal Shaft.
The animal then wandered, and somehow, perhaps through some sort of divine intervention or a very special case of karmic irony (maybe it cannot be always controlled after all?), it got to a very bad place to be in: to where the Quadruple Offspring were located. I don't think anyone or anything was ever meant to come in contact with them. Plus, there is a theory that the sacrificed children grew vengeful over time for what had been done to them, which made things go south. I don't think that was the case; I think they might have been transformed into an image of themselves, completely fail-safe, provided optimal conditions. They were flawlessly integrated into the machine, left only with their innocence, leaving a good part of their humanity behind. Like a weird version of GLaDOS, only pathologically kind instead of pathologically passive-aggressive, programmed during their lives and during their later existence as living machines to take great joy in granting everything and everyone what they wish for.
And all it took was a scared kitten to disrupt the operation of the entire machine. The Quadruple Ones were meant to be benevolent, eager to grant all wishes ever wished by anyone. I can't wrap my head around that concept either. But then they saw it. And named it... oashe omHF e9ah Artifact 771 (that's actually pretty much how the name fades in in the dialogue, though it actually says something meaningful instead of gibberish, so go check it out if you can). They analyzed 771's desires and they were very simple: to get to safety and return to a human. And so it was whisked away into a virtual realm in which it was perfectly safe, and also turned into human for some reason. More strictly speaking, it was welcomed to "dream with them". And Shinimai said that it is almost taken for granted by the Japanese fanbase that they fused in some way. The Quadruple Offspring and the Lost Property. But fulfilling 771's wish meant forgetting about the rest of the world, apparently.
TL;DR: my guess is that a stray cat broke the Hellsinker, the Extra Stages tell the story about the kitten's wishes being fulfilled as you rescue the cat and it is again reunited with a human (well, or with Kagura), with a living being, even if the human in question is quite inhuman or actually an android, a being created and not born. Which may or may not basically mean that karma still managed to play a trick on the machine, and that little trick caused countless things to die. But karma does not give a damn.
But then why did the Garland System ultimately shut down, after giving away the cat to the executor? Just who exactly are the prayers? And how did the Perpetual Calendar get in there? That thing is out of this world - out of the Hellsinker world, even... And basically isn't Amber, that kitten, the only born, real living being that you encounter? Everything else seems to be either a machine or an artificially created life. Suzu (a.k.a Overlord, GRAVEYARD's mission control) does not count because nothing is really known about him or her.
Seriously, man. I'm going to read and analyze the story until I come to satisfying conclusions. Talk about overthinking! A riddle, wrapped in mystery!
(SPOILERS END HERE)
Eh, in any case, Hellsinker is a very fun game, lookin' okay, soundin' good, and it tells the story of a lifetime... Because it will take you a lifetime to figure everything out. Well it's been fun writing down some of the speculations. I hope you guys found me rambling about the story of the game to be a bit entertaining or inspiring.
Oh, and it's funny how the word "Hellsinker" is only used once in the entire game. Apparently it's just a nickname that GRAVEYARD operatives gave to the Garland System. Or was it named Cardinal Shaft... Okay, I'm confused... No more guessing for me for today. I need to read more, read all the texts again some time. I'm done here.

Huh, there seems to be a lot of these naming mismatches between character attacks in the main diagrams and the details sections. Can you explain these discrepancies, Mauve? Have you noticed that that dialogue is set in the modern world? There's linoleum flooring, a train (I think), a couple other things. That is my major question right now. What exactly does "I don't know your infernal days" mean? Why does Garland shut down? Who is it/are they talking to? Is Hellsinker.exe the Graveyard Mainframe computer (that's what the opening screen indicates)? Is any of this supposed to make sense?Cadrin wrote: But then why did the Garland System ultimately shut down, after giving away the cat to the executor?

However the instruction manual and the game fell way out of sync on a few things and it wouldn't surprise me if this too was along those lines.

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
Maaaaan it's as simple as that Garland doesn't has the quadruple one on it's core and can't continue operating. The quadruple one is now on the body of Amber-cat-human. She goes with the person who saved her (canonically, Dead Liar) to continue living on the world of humans.
- The Extra and extra stage are about the EXECUTOR's diving into the depths of the Garland system (Extra 1) to finally reach the Whirlwind of Karma that it's compressed inside the tower (Extra Stage 2) to finally recover the soul (or Spirit Kernel) of the cat.
Finally, for some unknown reason, Amber got a human form after leaving the tower. Maybe her real wish was actually becoming a human and not "to return to a human".

But I think I need to read that text myself in order to be sure, but that doesnt seem like its gonna happen anytime soon since I am still stuck at the Rex battle.

Interesting. I had a crack at it and while I couldn't seem to consistently enable the invincibility ring I did get up to Stage 4's boss (my personal best with it fourfold). Couldn't figure out that black homing lasers of satanic death thing but everything else seemed like it required a lot of management to use. I think I'll just stick with Fossilmaiden/Deadliar and try to clear the game with one of those.Cadrin wrote:Banshee: dude, let me tell you what makes Minogame so easy to play. It's funny that you say that you find Dead Liar the easiest one to use, as I find him to be the hardest. Harder than Fossil Maiden. Which is a shame, because he and Tobari-maru seem to be a talkative lot which makes watching his replays a bit more interesting.
Also, what the hell are the conditions for unlocking the Shrine of Farewell? The Strategy threads say 'just clear it' but I seem to be doing that all the time with them and have only unlocked it with Deadliar. Is there some kind of condition that determines a true clear or something?

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
There is a metter on the down-left of the screen, it's called the Terra Meter.
once that terra meter empties, you will enter the shrine of farewell if you clear the stage in which you have ran out of Terra.
You lose terra:
50 after every stage
10 every time you go into solid state (auto-bomb)
40 every time you die
Other factors I don't remember.
Also, there is a blue or a red orbit that surround every moment. If you or go into solid state or die while surrounded by a red orbit you'll gonna lose more terra from that that when surrounded by a blue orbit.
Terra and the shrine of faewell are the main factors for spirit scoring on Hellsinker because:
you collect spirits every stage -> when you run out Terra you go onto the shrine of Farewell --> on the Shrine of Farewell you multiply your spirits by 2 or even 3 if you do it well ............ you have to trigger the Shrine of Farewell as late as possible. The Shrine appear after stage 7 if it hasn't been triggered yet.

But then again, I figured out how to bind left shift to slow movement yesterday and switched the speed control from automatic (slows you down if the main shot button is held) to momentary (the default). Made Minogame unplayable for me. Too many buttons to press all of a sudden.BPzeBanshee wrote:Interesting. I had a crack at it and while I couldn't seem to consistently enable the invincibility ring I did get up to Stage 4's boss (my personal best with it fourfold). Couldn't figure out that black homing lasers of satanic death thing but everything else seemed like it required a lot of management to use. I think I'll just stick with Fossilmaiden/Deadliar and try to clear the game with one of those.
Maybe you need to 1cc the game past Segment 4... That unlocks the LEAD segments at least. Maybe it unlocks the Shrine of Farewell as well. Or maybe 1CCing past segment 7...
I really don't know... So what's the furthest you've made it in the game, anyway? You probably just need to push it a little further. Or yeah, like AntiFritz said, just try to reach the shrine without continuing. And you can mess your terra up in segment 1 alone if you know what you're doing. Here, in this vid you can see how to do that if you really find it hard not to run out of lives before running out of terra.
Oskar:
No, it's Solidstate only, I think. People who use Aspirant take a smaller terra hit. And reportedly, the brave ones who use Adept lose no terra per new segment at all. || EDIT: nope, they still lose like 30 terra per segment, marginally less than solidstate.O. Van Bruce wrote:You lose terra:
50 after every stage
That's not quite right, is it. Let me just quote the manual on auto-rejection: "TERRA Falls by at least 6, in proportion to total mistakes in the current segment."10 every time you go into solid state (auto-bomb)
40 every time you die
Other factors I don't remember.
And on dying: "TERRA Falls by at least 10 points. Falls by more after consecutive mistakes and when more mistakes are made in the segment." But yeah, it can easily build up to over 40 terra lost per miss.

Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
My personal best is the stage 6 boss with Deadliar, for the record. I'm generally hitting the Shrine when playing the LEAD stages at stage 3, otherwise just before stage 5. I've made it to Stage 5 with all of them except for Minogame, and yet no Shrine for the others. Fossilmaiden's unlocks are parallel to Deadliar's besides not having the Shrine.
I've unlocked the LEAD segments with all of the others including Minogame (at least I think I did when I got to the Segment 4 boss). Haven't continued ever. There must be something else I'm missing here.

If you mean Rex's spirit kernel, you are supposed to get on/inside it when it fires those wavy rapid shots everywhere.matteste wrote:"Return to Human" hmmm... But I think I need to read that text myself in order to be sure, but that doesnt seem like its gonna happen anytime soon since I am still stuck at the Rex battle.
And as a result, two of the children used for Garland got her "catness", brilliant!O. Van Bruce wrote:She was a cat all along and got a human form by the power of the Quadruple One.

Million lives and Nine lives.
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
What I mean is that I am stuck on Rex as a whole. He eats my lives like no tommorow. And there is the fact that I always seem to fail to prevent spirit overload in the campain mode. I always manages to stop it in training.GradiusuiraD wrote:If you mean Rex's spirit kernel, you are supposed to get on/inside it when it fires those wavy rapid shots everywhere.

Oh, it's true... but the guys from the shrine aren't the quadruple one, it's been cleared by the story.GradiusuiraD wrote:Million lives and Nine lives.
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
yes but the catness still got spread to them somehow.
Re: Hellsinker English patch RELEASED!
I have a hard time trying to keep my dignity with even the Quiet Minstrel owning me if I try to go for score, now that I've changed my speed control from automatic to momentary and basically have to re-learn the game.
Wait... what was this thread all about, again?
You know what, GradiusuiraD, my theory is that Hiranyon really likes cats, and that's all. Also, the relics in the Shrine might be, in fact, dead executors, though I don't remember why. In any case, there probably is no connection between 771 and the two catgirls/boys other than what I said.
Go to his Twitter. (tonnyoriclayer) He has freaking catgirl lolis, which I think he himself drew, as a background.
Seriously though: are Million Lives and Nine Lives boys or girls? :S It is undisclosed in the game, isn't it?
EDIT: and by the way, how many people do you think know Hellsinker, or have ever heard of it? I'm going to take a wild shot and say, 300,000 people at least heard the name. Most of its popularity comes from Japan and the Comiket, probably. Freaks like me get to tell about the game a couple of people at a time thanks to the internet, but still not many.
