I thought I had seen that they had patched it.
Does the Arcade PCB of Limited support 4:3?
I really wish Shin did.

I figured. Does not hurt to ask. I really dig Shin over Original and wish I could play in fullscreen on my Arcade cabinet.

Played a little bit of this earlier with a pad and i'm in agreement with Skykid as to its much more fun with a stick, more so than the verts i've been playing recently. Hmmm I wonder if it might actually make Deathsmiles enjoyable lol

Such a depressing ending, I think I liked it better when I didn't understand what was going on :-FNeoStrayCat wrote:Alright guys, thanks to the help of Korszca, and my simple edits, here's the True Ending, now in English (with carefully placed vocals added), I know you guys might have already seen the regular endings, but not the True one yet. Shame about the lack of full voices in the western release, they certainly make the game and the ending more lively. Good job on the edit.
GAME OVER

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Just had something bizarre happen to me. Stage 4 boss fight, Origin Novice, Type A, during the transition from his 1st to 2nd phase. Killed his first phase during the attack where he portals in small turrets that fall vertically, then I moved down to about an inch from the bottom of the screen (about where the 3rd lifebar segment is horizontally) where during the phase transition (wasn't anywhere near Hiiragi), with zero bullets/enemies onscreen (he hadn't even opened the portal to summon the giant ship at the top of the screen yet), I died somehow. Thinkin' maybe the hitbox for one of the turrets his previous attack used got stuck in midair and wasn't removed by the game? But I've watched the replay a few times to see if I missed anything, and I definitely died to something invisible. No capture card to upload this with, sadly.
Probably just a fluke with Novice Origin though, I've been unable to reproduce the death in subsequent attempts and have never noticed any other oddities like that aside from the sound cutting out for a split-second rarely during a stage, nothing major.

Thanks guys, it took a while to get it all together, but it came out the way I want it to, but yeah, still have to wait on Korz to get the other endings soon enough, since I really don't have any expensive HD recording software (yet), lol.
And besides, the regular endings are more depressing than the true ending, since the true ending seems to be more sorrowful or something like that.

Played a few credits of Origin. It seems very lucrative to do mushi-style tapping over the course of the entire game (doing so cancels timers that normally limit how many items are generated). Unfortunately this is painful to my hand over a long period of time, so I can't really enjoy the game.
Dimahoo is a fun game.

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
I'm actually enjoying this game.... Weird. Pulled my 360 out of the closet just to play it.
Mostly slash mode (zetsu?). origin is too much of a mess and makes me just want to play giga wing.
I picked it up at a game stop and the clerk didn't understand why there were people on the cover and just bullets on game screen
I'll dig around st forum at work tomorrow

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
I've been messing around with all three modes wondering which one to plum for. I think i'll stick with Climax, its fun because I can enter phantom mode more often than the other 2 modes. Still have'nt worked out any scoreplay strategies for the bosses yet.
Maybe it's because i've been playing too much Futari Original but I find playing this for score is very refreshing.

Did you use the 3rd shiptype? If so i'ld guess it's the exploit mentioned in the ST section-Zerst wrote:Played a few credits of Origin. For the Type C character, there is an exploit that allows you to collect energy extremely fast. Basically, what you want to do is constantly alternate between A and C while you or your option is point-blanking an enemy. C causes more energy to spawn, and A holds the energy in place, so going back and forth will give you the best results.

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
^ I probably should have said to hold C + tap A to be more clear there. But yeah, doing that used to hurt my hand after a couple hours as well, but now it never bothers me. Maybe you get used to it over time?
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
I'm loving this game a lot, but I won't upload a highscore until I've beat that magical 50.000
It feels awesome to have a new Cave shmup
And yeah, slash mode felt immediately like the most satisfying one.

Why doesn't it let you enter your initials for scoreboards (I'm talking locally, I don't do LIVE)?

The last couple of Cave releases had been doing that (though they suddenly decided to keep it in for Mushi HD)...couldn't tell you why.burgerkingdiamond wrote:Why doesn't it let you enter your initials for scoreboards (I'm talking locally, I don't do LIVE)?

I thought it did allow it. The demo shows it off but forces it to 'CAV'. :S
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Well I learned something today...never play Ikaruga for an hour then try to play Akai Katana in slash mode....don't know why I found myself treating the summon button as a color switch...it took me a few moments ...and I actually said a loud to myself..."ohhh this isn't ikaruga dummy"
I wonder how many other games totally mess with you when switching to another.
Usually Geometry Wars Evolved, Infinity Danger, and Score Rush seem to help me do better with most shmups....but Ikaruga didn't.
Still loving AK though.

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Even though I've not shmupped in a while this is the first time in a long time that I get the impression that I'll never make headway in this game. Maybe i've been coddled too much by Deathsmiles.

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Keep at it, mate. It took me an afternoon or so to get the hang of Shin's orb/steel/katana management and stuff, but the game's difficulty is (for the most part) pretty moderate once you do.
Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
I've been playing Arcade/Origin but I guess most people playing Slash/shin so maybe I should switch.

Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
Played Slash quite a bit. (Is it labeled "Shin" in the original release?) I have trouble getting through ST5 but making quite a bit of progress every time I play. Very fun little game.
I think I'll be able to 1cc this before anything else Cave I have on hand these days, maybe even before DFK, which, for some reason, I have trouble playing well.
I'm I the only one completely pissed when I have tons of suicide bullets in front of my ship, lots of katana ready to fire ten slightly top the stick to reposition and fire the katanas upwards? Makes for so much of the score that I have trouble going on without it affecting my game...

If it's that much of a problem, try using a different ship - the aiming of the katana differ based on which one you choose.KindGrind wrote:I'm I the only one completely pissed when I have tons of suicide bullets in front of my ship, lots of katana ready to fire ten slightly top the stick to reposition and fire the katanas upwards? Re: Shin Akai Katana Confirmed for North America
You're playing the Type B ship obviously - you need to be aware that each of the different pilots have differing behaviour when using their katanas.KindGrind wrote:I'm I the only one completely pissed when I have tons of suicide bullets in front of my ship, lots of katana ready to fire ten slightly top the stick to reposition and fire the katanas upwards? Type A's katanas always fire fowards. They'll be a bit wider if you fire when moving backwards, tighter when moving forwards.
Type B's katanas fire in the opposite direction you're moving. Not moving or holding backwards will shoot them forward, you can fire them in any direction by moving the opposite way and firing them.
Type C's katanas are either tight or spreadshot or depending on whether or not you're moving.

Yes, Shin=Slash
I've got a question: I've 1cc'ed easy shin mode a few times but the achievement doesn't pop. Do you have to do it in normal difficulty?

"Difficulty"? If you mean Novice on/off, probably. If you've been mucking with the settings, changing any of those from the defaults usually disqualifies you from every achievement in the game.Avatar Ignis wrote:Yes, Shin=Slash
