3 lives, extends at 200000 and 500000, Normal difficulty. For Japanese arcade boards only, starting a game on the 2P side introduces checkpoints, among other details. I recommend simply not playing such a game.

For the ports, please don't switch the bomb types. Please turn off "Start Back Mode" in the US versions, though if you're playing the player 2 side in Raiden II, you might want to turn them on. I don't know, it's a mess.

Arcade (regular board) - Normal

Perikles - 4,184,580 - 2-5 - 1P - Yes - MAME Plus 0.168

Uploading the video is probably going to take a while, but I really want to post the score now. It's more or less a horrendous clear, I accidentally picked up the straight missiles in stage 5, trapped myself, had to bomb like a lunatic and still had to resort to sit in the corner. It's a great game and all, I don't find it that much fun to play personally, however. I feel like it gets way too hard way too early, stage 3 is pretty ridiculous already. Maybe I should've played with the purple laser, I don't like playing with it, though (with the exception of stage 7).

Edit: regular board, US, set 1.

Big plays. I hope and pray there are no version differences, hope and pray.

Removed the difficulty question (for the arcade version) unless someone really really really really wants it. I really only added it in the event a yojo! appears, because I remember that used to be a thing.

Video is up now. I highly recommend watching the second half of stage 5, it's flailing on the highest level, will probably evoke a good laugh or two.

The overall difficulty is - as far as I can tell - identical, there might be differences with the fairies. They are a bit random from what I can tell, sometimes you get a "P", but usually not. Don't know how it is in other versions.

Nice job Perikles; you are now one of the few. ^_^

Anyway, having been playing this game a lot, I would like to point out that in the Japanese arcade version, the 2p side has checkpoints and a different item order, while in other versions, 2p is the same as 1p except for spawning with cluster bombs rather than napalm.

I saw some confusion in the old thread regarding extends, particularly the one on stage 6. The crystal has to be destroyed while it is flying offscreen. It's very difficult to do consistently because it's a tiny window and the straight lasers are too slow to hit it. As far as I can tell you should either a) sit directly on top of the crystal with the blue laser, or b) sit just below the crystal with the purple toothpaste laser and make sure the tip is locked on to it. In the latter situation, you will want the crystal to come out while it is about to scroll offscreen, giving it the few frames it needs to be destroyed.

As for score extends, I notice that the mame dip switches as well as online sources suggest that the game has a default 200k/500k extend setting; however as far as I can tell no version of this game will actually give you a score extend. It makes me think the extend setting switch was dummied late in development. If anyone knows more on this, feel free to speak up.

I thought it was a MAME bug, but considering this post, I think the game just doesn't have extends and whoever put that in the MAME DIP switches was misinformed.

NICE WORK Baron Rojo, you've really torn through this game!
I guess the plasma laser is a good weapon for the majority of the game.
Hope cream clears this one soon, she got up to the final boss!

Thanks KoopaTGR, yes the plasma gun is certainly a very good option,
The only downside is that in some areas prevents the visibility of some enemy bullets, so I chose the blue ship because cluster bombs is easier to avoid death.

Haha, my hand would probably fall off from all that fast tapping. I'm not very good with the toothpaste laser but I use it on stage 7. As KoopaTGR said I might 1-all this soon myself; it's not easy though. I'm happy to see more people conquering this game!
