This quote is ancient by now, but....

Weren't you complaining about Ketsui's arbitrary loop conditions when you first signed up? Whatever happened to that? Now you've done a 180 and you're saying that if you can't loop you're a noob.

Ah, the ways of CAGAR are mysterious indeed.

It's called "getting better." Maybe you've heard of it?

gus defending Cagar, now I've seen everything.

It's called getting deluded. I simply don't have the time to do multiple runs of an hour-long game, do well at school, and keep up a social life. Psikyo is much more convenient (albeit occasionally frustrating), and Radio Zonde is also great for short but rewarding sessions. I probably shouldn't be talking to a five-hour-a-day player about balance but this is unfortunately how normal human beings work. Unless you want to spend life living with your parents in Tennessee you'd better start moving towards normalcy as well.

And speking of logical fallacies, how can you complain about Galuda final boss restarts and not agree that missing out on Ura due to one piddly mistake is a dumb design decision? In one case you whine, in another case you tell the whiners to man up. *shrug* I don't get it.

And when I first signed up and cried about ketsui's loop condinitions, did I ever say I'm not trash?
I still think I'm trash even when I get to 2nd loop in games. I was trash/noob then. I was teh ultimate 1-loop trash. I can admit it.
And even back when I signed up, I thought that first loopers are trash, including me.
Ps. Trash.

I'm working on it, I've already gotten myself enrolled to an online college. I realize that I'm not gonna be able to keep up this kind of play for the rest of my life which is why I'm sinking in as much time as I can, getting the best scores I can in my favorite games while I still have the chance. If only more people here saw things that way and went full shmup.

I don't recall ever doing that, but even so if I was the guy bitching about Ura and that was some guy getting a ton of praise for slightly above-average scores in Galuda 2 bitching about the final boss I'd tell him to man up too. Once you've sunk in as much time into these games as I have you come to realize that telling a guy that they suck and they need to man up is the best advice you can give them. You come to realize that casual bullshit like "natural talent" barely make a difference in the long run and that those world record holders are simply guys who really love their game and had the patience to keep going in spite of all the bullshit.

Thirty-five hours a week dedicated to gaming is clinically committable. That's a full working week for most of the general population.

You really have no ground to be pushing your 'man-up', 'try-harder' views onto other people when you've frankly gone to absurd levels to achieve those goals.

Yeah, I would lose my job and gf.

Sadly, I have more like an hour at the most to play each day. Spending any of that time studying replays just doesn't sound as fun as sucking at the games and slowly progressing, but actually being able to play them.

Not to shit on Gus, as he is obviously quite good at practicing these games, and if he has the free time, more power to him. The scores are damn impressive.

never would have guessed that this is a thread for Akai Katana

If gus enters the thread, the thread is about gus. This isn't how it has to be, but he always finds ways to call people who are fairly devoted to shmups "fucking casuals", and someone always responds.

Not that there's anything wrong with that - I like these little chats.

Hahaha. I play about 15 minutes for three or four days a week and one additional hour if I choose to not watch movies on the weekends.

I just got destroyed in finals and at work today. God, I don't need booze or drugs to feel wasted! :P

Back when i was at home, 14 (gulp) years ago, I could quite easily do five hours a night, it kept me out the pub. Sadly at that age I wasted most of those hours on fucking JRPG's. Oh well. Yeah, mine shoukd be here tomorrow anyway, can't wait. Just hope it's more ProGear than DeathSmiles.

You know, I remember not too long ago getting told by a certain dumbass I wasn't the 20th best player on here because I was only good at Futari and that truly good players get good scores in shitloads of games. Now I've proven I'm perfectly capable of getting decent scores in games not named Futari and that same dumbass still mocks me for being honest about how much I love this genre and how much time I sink in. I guess I just can't win. If only I had some of that Asian "natual talent".

But seriously, you look at any Arcadia magazine, or even that Chinese leaderboard site in x91's sig, very few guys get truly stellar scores in more than 1 or 2 games. Whether you just play a few hours a day for 2 years or be like me and do 5-10 hour sessions it takes a shitload of time to get good scores in any game. You can even look at that interview with HFD where he talks about how he got to where he was wondering why he was even still going but he didn't give up because unlike that dumbass he wasn't a fucking quitter.

Sure, maybe I could play less. Maybe I could be like the scores of casuals who only care about their meaningless "1cc list" built off Original modes and 1-ALLs. Or I could be like Icarus and be mediocre at everything. Or I could be like Sikraiken and just fake a bunch of STGT scores every year. But I'd rather just be me and that entails being honest about what it takes to get good and that yes, if your best accomplishment is barely getting past DOJBL's first loop you're trash. All I ask of you is to that consider that maybe instead of playing some non-shmup or ogling at your (not sealed) game horde you instead spend that time getting better at your favorite game. But whatever, just keep deluding yourself that DOJBL's first loop is the hardest game ever made and that Futari Ultra is impossible.

That's bad trolling there Gus, come on, even you can do better! You admitted you enjoyed riling up people on here by playing the "you're so casual" card, have you added character attacks to your repertoire?

Is it really that common an attitude to consider a 1cc trash?

How old is Gus?

Until I graduated college 2 years ago I could still stay up until 2 in the morning everyday and play Fallout 3 for 5 hours straight or whatever else I wanted to. When I had to start getting up at 6 a.m. 5 days a week and work for the man those gaming hours became a precious commodity. Throw a girlfriend into the equation and I'm lucky to have even 1 hour per day.

Then again maybe Gus is working 40 hours a week and is just extremely dedicated. In that case fine. It's sort of admirable to want to be the absolute best you can at something. To strive for achievement is a good thing. It's up to the individual to determine if it's worth the investment.

^ 5-10 hours of gaming a day seriously fucks up your ability to communicate, make assessments and interact with others in a reasonable social fashion folks, your parents weren't lying.

In short: Gus didn't ruin his life with kids and busy job, has time to do things he likes, and the rest are jealous. Could we now switch back to akai katana?
I'll help: What do you think about the bosses being humans, and not battleships or tanks like pretty much everything else in the game?

Throw three kids into the mix and it gets worse, especially when the youngest (2 1/2) just wants me to turn my shit off so's he can play Sonic 1.

@ Cagar: Ruin? Hahahahahahahahaha. Man get a life.

Anyways, as you were. My copy landed today but already got stuff on tonight. Tomorrow, however, the other half has already been warned it's beer, pizza and ahmups tomorrow night. This is actually the best bit for me, playing for the first few hours and getting a feel for the mechanics.

Some people don't consider having a wife, a family and an income something that's ruining their lives. Gus clearly spends so much time playing videogames he's lost the ability to self-assess, moderate and interact with people in a normal manner.

I mean, who gives a shit about high scores if you're socially retarded?
Cagar wrote:I'll help: What do you think about the bosses being humans, and not battleships or tanks like pretty much everything else in the game?
It's a bit odd initially, but the bosses do summon up battleships, trains and planes when you fight them, so it all feels quite normal anyway.
Marc wrote:Just hope it's more ProGear than DeathSmiles.
It's much closer to Progear, even in the economy of its scoring system (cashing in your Katana in Shin has a similar feel about it.)
