Most of the world record scores were recorded in Gamest and Arcadia magazines, then dutifully archived by Gemant and others.

Ah ok. Ive been looking around websites and that but nothing really that great came of it. I can use this as a reference for Arcade score, but I was interested in console scores too.

Is there any reason why the Espgaluda II western record is listed as DKU-KAB's 667m instead of kawaijb's 672m?

Yea, the reason is I'm a dumbass.

A bit of a moot point, though, since you'll have the record within the next week or so.

Might as well just say that DEL has a counterstop in Batsugun. It's in the old HS thread. http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 46#p154146

^Yes, but it was disallowed and I removed it from all score boards.
To cut a short story short, ARC lent me his Batsugun Special pcb and I set about going for the Counter Stop. 3 weeks later I got it. Skill level was default normal etc., but it turned out that ARC had left all dips OFF (correctly) except for dip#3 which gave extra lives based on score on the 1st loop only. So despite me getting the CS with several lives remaining at the 4-ALL, I was still off the mark for the 7 or so lives that dip#3 OFF would have given me.
I took the board to the Milan Meet to give a demonstration of the CS and this is where Plasmo discovered the dip problem. I had been unaware that I wasn't playing pure default. Normal skill level with 3 lives start - Yes, but the extra lives on the 1st loop were wrong.
I estimate that I would be getting around 80mil not 99.99mil with the 7 lives default - similar to Plasmo's score.

And with me :| . Obviously, your killer Cave records mean a bit more than my scrubby Storm Blade and Twin Cobra II scores, plus once the SDOJ records come out in the next Arcadia I'll have the record for that too, purely by default, which places me above you two, so this list isn't necessarily an accurate reflection of the top players and I hope people don't take it too seriously.

Well, even with NMNBing the entire game (which is beyond good and evil), this score would look so freaking impossible. WTN is the man.

You replaced the wrong score (vower score on the strania record), also the xbox 360 leaderboard scores still beat the best NESSiCA scores: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 68#p804468

I think the versions should be treated as identical unless someone proves otherwise.. the scores are similar enough to not hint at any version differences and they both run on "pc/windows" hardware.

these are the strania and vower WRs that are higher than those NESSiCA scores:

World (Strania): highmustang - 16,561,750 - Expert
World (Vower): LevelFix - 18,780,240 - Expert

wow @ that donpachi score, lol

Radirgy Game Cube is arcade perfect too? I though the DC ver. was the only perfect port, and the PS2 and GC versions had differences with the arcade version.

DDP SDOJ has been added.

I've also decided to add x91's SDOJ and Ketsui scores as the "Western" records, in spite of the fact that he's a native Eastern player.

The point of this thread is to archive the top scores in the world (which are almost entirely Japanese) to our more humble scores in the "West" to give us all an aim to shoot for as well as see who in the community is top dog at their respective game. The problem comes in when one of the Eastern players joins the community and posts scores: where should he (or she lol) be listed? Up to now, they haven't been included among our Western scores, but x91 has shown himself to be a contributing member of the community, and at this point, it feels strange to exclude him. So unless we start getting an influx of Korean/Chinese/Japanese master players posting their monstrous scores, I think it's only fair that x91 gets his kudos.

I think trying to distinguish between "western" and "eastern" communities is dumb, especially since they do mingle more often than threads like this suggest. This "west vs east" nonsense needs to stop. I'd much rather if you just listed shmups forum high scores compared to world records so there is no silly ambiguity.

The "shmups forum record" idea sounds good to me, that or just include Korea and China in the west and only exclude Japan as they have 99% of the world records anyway. I don't see what warrants excluding Korea and China as they don't seem all that different from western players as they have their own small community and rely on the same sort of the resources western players do. Japan is where the games are by far the most popular and you have all those superplayers trading tips and keeping secrets from the rest of the world.
