Definitely. While as Estebang notes the backgrounds are beautiful, Capcom characters look like dogshit (especially Hugo, who looks like an upsized, lower res version of his SF3 incarnation). And it plays even worse... broken as hell, crappy system and awful controls (especially when it comes to charge characters).
Acid King wrote:Really? IV is my favorite of the series and have never seemed particularly broken. I'm unfamiliar with high level tactics though so I'll defer to you on that one.
Lots of characters have stupid stuff (such as Sogetsu being able to do infinite chip damage with his water columns while on rage mode). But it's great exactly because lots of characters have that kind of crap, so it ends up being balanced, kind like HnK though not as crazy.
Casper<3 wrote:3rd Strike Online Edition on XBLA is where it's at. I play it almost nightly.
That's not an SNK fighting game :P

I brought it up because of the netcode talk. It's actually playable.

By the way, where are you guys getting the stage rips from?

Bumped because the XBLA editions of KOF 98 & 2002 are on sale. These worth picking up, i.e. good netplay and active community?

KoF98 has godawful netcode. KoF2002 is better, but still not great. I imagine both games are completely dead at this point, but I really have no idea. The sale will probably give it a little boost for a while.

Why not just play on GGPO? Both games are popular on there.

I get lots of lag & startup issues whenever I use GGPO. Not sure why - it's the same router for my laptop and 360, and I'm pretty sure the port forwarding is proper. *shrug*

SamSho III, Garou, Last Blade.

So happy I scored SamSho III finally, and cheap! Last Blade is definitely going to be more expensive though ...

This may have been mentioned already, but I recommend Rage of the Dragons if available. I bought the MVS cart a long time ago and really enjoyed this tag team fighter. Apparently, Evoga (Mexico based?) and Brezzasoft developed this game. I'm not a super hardcore fighting game technician, though, but I love its feel and style.

If you are looking for something a little different but cool I would strongly suggest Fighters History Dynamite and Battle Instinct Matrimelee which are both highly under appreciated in my opinion.

EDIT: Battle Instinct Matrimelee was made by the same folks as Rage of Dragons but has an official licence to use the Power Instinct characters unlike in RoD where they did not have permission to use the Double Dragon guys. Some RoD have made it too PIM as Mid-Bosses etc.

I was playing matrimelee yesterday, as well as karnovs revenge for a laugh. Matrimelee is 'ok', more fun than some of the later KOFs.

Which BIOS where you playing Matrimelee on? Because the JAP bios has a ton of great music which is not in the US version unless you go in and flip some software dips.

My favorite will always be Last Blade 2. They absolutely nailed that game's aesthetics.

Watching two pros fight in that game is like watching a classic samurai film unfold.

Yes LB is a fun one, I own both on the MVS and is almost always in the rotation heh.

A little off topic but I also like to have Shock Troopers and Street Hoops in my machine too. The forth slot is normally reserved for a shoot, currently it's Viewpoint.

The Last Blade series is eye candy too..

The one game that makes me miss my Neo is Waku 7. It was so much fun in 2-player it was untrue. One game where emu really isn't the same.

Yeah, Last Blade 2 and Waku7 are the two I still play from my SNK explosion a few months back. Incredibly fun.
