There is a massive difference between ppl who play casually and those who come here complaining and trolling others about it.

Nowadays I dont play shmups (or video games) everyday, I only play when I have the motivation to play, one week I might only spend a couple of hours playing, while another I might spend five times that, atm im a week into a course of nicotine replacement patches, scatterbrained and dont feel like doing any of my hobbies.

It also doesnt help there are so many shmups on the 360 more than most of us can play, which in itself breeds more casual play.

As others have said less is more as atm things ive learnt tend to stick in my head better compared to those long gaming marathons I used to do where ild quickly forget much of what ive learnt in next to no time.

Still I wish I could play shmups more and improve faster, but im not going back to how I played in the past where ild burn myself out

Actually, I have seldom been any good with more than one ship/plane/Character, in most shumps.

Also, mods, can we get rid of the cheesy porn derail, please? This is not off-topic. The post is barely readable.

Any thread with good posts from Icarus and Randorama is automatically worth much more than zero-content posts like those.

Hmmmm funny thread.

I'm very sorry i won't touch Futari Oringinal 1.5 after my clear..... like ever again... (i cleared it 3 times now).. maybe i will play other modes though...
That's mainly because i am painting an entire fucking Warhammer 40k army now. That will take some time. I am a fucking Warhammer casual. And since i paint.. i am a fucking miniature casual painter too i guess.
And then i will learn Objective C this year, which is one of my goals after learning .NET and getting some certificates. This will be like the 100th programming language. I am a fucking programming casual.
I should quit my job at which i only work 6h a day. Most people work 8 hours. I am a fucking working casual.
And then I will finish the Count of Monte Cristo. It's a shame i still haven't found the time to read such a decent book. On the other side i have always found time to play some stupid video games or shitpost on forums. You could say that i am a fucking casual at reading too.
Maybe i will quit meeting my friends 3 times a week at baskeball since i will not be able to play at the NBA anyway. I am a fucking fucking casual basketball player.
I am learning how to cook thai food from this new book (thai food, david thompson) i bought (i am able to cook normal German and Indian food). It's awesome, much fun and very tasty. Me and my gf love it. But then again... it probably tastes much better from a master cook so i think it's best that i give that up too since i am a fucking thai-food newbie.
But after that i will come back playing Akai Katana for score. Then my life will make sense again.

Sorry for being such a failure.
(Ps: playing akai katana for score is not a joke though.)

I think that the original point of the thread was that some people really feel butt-hurt if they complain about easy titles, being new people to the genre, and the seniors complain that they complain. From there onwards, the thread spiralled in all kind of stupid stuff.

I would argue that the "sorry if I am not hardcore, I do 1 kazillion other things in life" butt-hurt thread is another one, I am pretty sure that I spotted it.

Plus, just to troll a bit, WarHammer 40k is really a game for angst teenagers who wear Aliens T-shirts (me, circa 20 years ago). Ok, I only played Lizardians*, and mostly played WarHammer rather than 40k (vaguely more balanced).

I switched to to Advanced Squad Leader after a while. That kind of shit requires daily practice for months to get a decent understanding of the rules. Oh, I also played Role Master. I remember that all the people who played that were, like, Ph.D. students in Sciences, and spent virtually every second of matches involving me by trolling me the fuck out of my skin.

Sure, shmups require hand-eye coordination and reflexes, and back in the arcade days we often had to punch people to play games, but they're really a hobby for dumb wimps, compared to tons of other stuff that actually requires brains.

People, it's just videogames.

*Or whatever they were called. The first edition had a wonky army of Lizard-like creatures that were hard as fuck to use, and their miniatures were rather expensive. Funny times indeed.

Haha you are right!

But if Warhammer 40k is such a game as you have described then Advanced Squad Leader is a game where the players think clitoris is the final boss in a video game. Very nerdy. :D
I am kind of sad that nearly every discussion seems to end in a flamewar of hardcore VS casual.

But what i don't get is this: There some pseudo pros around here that will flame you for posting a low score. They will say that you don't understand anything about the game and try to convince you that you have to play for score because otherwise you won't be able to enjoy the game on so many levels as they do. And of course asian players are generally better and all that bullshit. Why do these people keep on picking on some western casuals who don't give a damn instead of showing what kind of a fucking big shot they are by competing against these asian bad boys? It's like going to a playground to beat up younger children instead of taking on some guys at their level. What the fuck is wrong with them?

I just uploaded some quickly shot pictures of my new miniature i finished some weeks ago for fun.
This thread will get devoured by my new painted Trygon!

lol

Try crossing over into the forbidden land of Futari's in-game leaderboard sometime. Right now, between 1.5 and BL I have top 10 scores in every mode, top 5 in half of them, and plan on going for #1 in God mode once I get a top 10 score in Espgaluda 2's 360 mode. Yeah, I have nothing on those asians. :(

Eh, my ASL mentor was a guy who swore to remain a virgin until he was going to be married. He was a sort of New Age neo-nazi who was doing a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics. We found out that he wasn't really a virgin, as he actually was in the local BDSM scene.

He was actually quite a nice guy, as he kept his ideas to himself, but I recall that he always applied a huge pyschological pressure on us young'uns, when we made mistakes in playing. But see below:
But what i don't get is this: There some pseudo pros around here that will flame you for posting a low score.
Well, they're pseudo pros. I think that in a male-laden intarweb forum, one can expect all the lame behavior patterns of high-school. Say, the beta males trolling the epsilon ones (ahem).

Continuing from above, I remember that playing ASL for us younger people was also a way to show that we could withstand being trolled & bullied by the older guys. I remember being treated like an absolute retard just because our choices were not the ones of veterans with years of experience would do.

And then, I played tons of sports, where mistakes could easily cost you a punch in the face or worse (not to mention my years in the Navy...).

The intarweb bullying we get on this forum is really vanilla stuff. I mean, I remember shoryuken.com being in a state of perennial flamewars, so...

The bottom line is that boys will be boys. We have a good chance that the event of a user, who is decent at games, will sledge another user, who still needs the learn the ropes of shmupping.

I daresay that we could collectively make the effort of being less pricks about people complaining, but also that we could avoid complaing about objectively easy games.

And get DrTP banned, for the collective welfare.

Btw, judging by the Trygon, you can troll us n00bs on miniature painting any time of the day. I found some of my older miniatures and they were *embarassing*, to say the least.

Nothing I complain about is "easy". Check the leaderboards for how few people are getting through these games if you want to see how "easy" they are.
To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.

Well:

Once you started posting, we collectively decided to hold back scores and skills, as we wanted to make you feel less intimidated by your intentional lack of skills.

Plus, the old threads about grievances were usually met with people showing up at n00bs' houses with cricket bats, bludgeons and other weapons of violence, for some heavy-metal sodomy.

But we decided to quit such barbaric acts, as not to offend your remarkably stubborn lack of willpower to listen to suggestions.

I'd say it pretty well drives home what a sorry state the board is in when a guy who's only decent is even in a position to say these kinds of things. Anyway I think I should elaborate that my reason for posting like this has nothing to do with me wanting to stroke my epenis. I have no problem stepping aside and saying that most of my scores are pretty much big fish small pond type deals and that it's guys like Erppo who are the real pros around here. Rather, I'm simply a hardcore shmup fan who's telling things like I see it. There's nothing wrong with just 1 individual playing casually but when it's when it's almost the entire forum doing it it becomes a problem. When you see nothing but casual garbage getting posted, when you can barely find anyone with similar passion for these games as you, the casual playing starts to get very annoying. But it's like I said, as time has shown some way or another there's always going to be a small group of people going against that grain, giving a fuck about the way the games are meant to be played, not wasting time complaining about how hard easy games games are. So, whatever, have it with the usual shitposting.

Still kind of surprised Gus isn't shooting for the Touhous, since that's where the biggest competition lies for obsessive/hardcore score-running (see Royalflare and elsewhere)... the bullet cancelling is a little tame, though, but the doujin works beat Cave hands down!
