shmupping at work

Post by shmuppyLove »

Wednesday got better after the coffee / milk fiasco.

Got some PHP / MySQL bullshit sorted out finally, and using old parts that were swapped out of my desktop, I've got MAME up and running on our 40" LCD in the office:

Too bad the wall-mount doesn't TATE  Cuz this display looks fantastic off VGA, and has a "Game" mode that has little to no lag.

I play all of my DOJBL at work because my home comp can't run it. I generally have some down time at the end of the day for a few credits.

I installed Hellsinker on one of the computers. I'll probably play it this weekend when I get bored.

Ha! NICE. What a coincidence, I just ordered a 40" Samsung off TigerDirect this morning at work. I was going to use it at home to replace a 28" PC monitor, but since I've been logging some long hours at work (80+) lately I changed my mind and plan to keep it at work. Also got a spare, unopened xbox360 slim sitting around collecting dust at the home office so I'll probably bring it in. Will also probably build a gaming level PC for work too. However I mostly plan to have the HDTV running in the background with Netflix, NBA League Pass or some TV shows I downloaded.

Right now I've got quad 24" PC monitors each with a rotating NeoFlex stand. Every now and then I TATE one for shmups. Also got an iCade loaded w/ MAME, iFBA, console emulators etc. I also keep a spare iControlPad for emulation gaming on the iPhone in my work drawer. Lastly got a pair of those Saturn USB pads in the drawer at work as well. I'll probably bring in a 360/PS3 joystick later on though since I have a bunch at home.

Oh fun! I work over a dozen hours of free overtime every week and don't even get time to eat lunch. And no, I'm not some factory worker in China :P (but it almost feels like it.)

I've been meaning to do something like this for a while. Weekends I work are so slow that I literally do no work. Wouldn't be too hard to setup the JP 360 and stick.

Same here. Last week I put in 92 hrs. So if I drop in 15-20 mins on a shmup every 2 days or so I don't see a problem.

I signed up at GOG.com and downloaded Tyrian 2000, sweet that it runs in a window I can just flip back n forth to it as I work, and I get the delicious Adlib music in the background

OpenTyrian is more compatible all around but it doesn't support Tyrian 2000 unfortunately. You running it on Windows 7 with no issues?

Yes indeedy, didn't have to do anything. Downloaded from GOG, installed, runs perfectly!

Nice. I expected more issues considering DOSBox but clearly GOG have accounted for any sort of issues that might pop up. It sort of worked for me when I got it but I had to change something in the configuration first because it'd just crash, and that was on XP.

Ran flawlessly afterward if not a little bit slow. Nice to know you're having fun with it: it really does get more shit than it deserves.

I didn't take any pics, but today I brought all my supergun gear in and had my MVS up on the 40" LCD with Samurai Shodown III and Aero Fighters 2, and Strider Hiryu 2.
