Anyone know if it is possible to change eproms on an original revision VP1 to the new version? Or are their hardware differences also?
Cheers

You should be able to swap the 4 PRG eproms from old to new version.
You don't even need to go through the cart swap procedure on the SPI mobo.

They are socketed. Just replace the 4 EPROMs at the bottom

Yep, it's fun to play the Viper Phase 1 U.S.A. cart from time to time. It was Fabtek whom officially distributed VP1 for the North American arcade market back in 1995. My local arcade, The Electric Underground, had gotten in a VP1 U.S.A. conversion kit complete with full-sized backlit marquee to draw in the arcade shmup fans. Considering that it was setup on a generic Dynamo cab, the top ten scores & high score initials were always listed to try beat them. I did manage to place in that top ten rankings back in the late 1990s until it finally closed their doors for good in May of 1998.

Hey alamone. I'm just about ready to do this, but do you know if any rom set will be compatible or if I need the rom region to match my PCB?

Use the same region set as your SPI board.
You can hex edit the region too, but that's a bit more advanced.
I did that to get a 2 loop Japanese NV.

Ok, good to know if I ever get past level 2
I think I have the world version, but is there any way to know for sure?
