Dude didn't you hear? EVERYONE who has seen the trailer hates it!

Maybe someone would like to link some place where everyone is posting that they hate it? Other than this thread that is?

All of this is set to an epic score of soaring heights, composed by Akira Yamaoka, acclaimed for his works on Shadows of the Damned and the Silent Hill series.

As much as I like Yamaoka I'm a bit disappointed the soundtrack wasn't Masafumi Takada.

I don't even think that's necessary. Personally, I don't think it's worth shitting up the thread on the off-chance that someone has a sweet boss fight to discuss or something cool they found in the background of a stage that others might have missed.

How about the actual trailer's comments page which every other website links to?

Really it's a non-issue. Judgement Day will be soon and it'll be pretty plain obvious on release whether people are getting Mactabilis MK-II or Progear Gar-awesome-egga.

After reading this interview http://www.trueachievements.com/n7646/t ... reiker.htm I feel obligated to buy the game, for the sake of the genre I mean. It's great to read a western developer speak with passion and knowledge about shmups.

Yep that was a great read. People are hesistent to get their hopes up but it's worth saying just how good it is to see a developer put passion into a game like this. My points are ready.

That interview and the sampled music (stage 6 one especially) are great, getting hyped up for this :)

Still don't like the look of the enemy bullets but looks like it won't be a big deal.

This screenshot looks pretty sweet as well, garegga aesthetic at work I guess:

If any modern release has the potential to reinvigorate the mainstream's interest in the genre, its this one. Trendy Grasshopper being involved and all.
Or it could just fall by the wayside, like Shadows of the Damned.

Feel like ranting about this so;

I'd argue the streams of small glowing bullets makes the game look like a bullet hell shmup which will turn off more people than interest. And they clearly had trouble fitting them with the visual theme in the backgrounds

And more importantly, they could've taken inspiration from garegga and done something that hasn't been done in quite a while, do have grey/black bullets and have a lot of different bullet sprites with huge cannons shooting big shots and whatnot would make enemy patterns way more personal, and they could've made it look really impressive if they were good with the sprites..

as it is it looks like the visuals of the actual gameplay part of enemy design (bullet patterns) is mostly ignored just to make it easy to do and modify.

Theodore's interview convinced me as well.

I am impressed that someone other than me can adore Garegga and Honneamise.

Since we're here: OST on CD, please? Or more samples on Soundcloud?

I certainly appreciate the time and effort that went into that IGN article, specifically the image captions.
"Yet it's not bullet hell."
"The world looks great."
et al.

I also love the quote they chose to blow-up
"[Under Defeat] has possibly the best looking explosions in the genre's history."
Almost entirely non sequitur
So nouveau!

Sites like these make my heart hurt.

This game loves and rewards its players -- and hopefully, one of its many rewards will be an everlasting love towards the genre.

That'll be nice to see because every shmup I've experienced wants to beat you down until you stop playing and end up hating the genre.

I was going to go for that one, but seeing as it wasn't over 9000, I didn't.

Interesting. If it's seriously an XBLA purchase, I'll definitely buy. Looks beautiful. I wonder about the gameplay...

Looks like the game might have some silly true last boss based on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU5jQInvi7U#t=1m49s

"encounter the killer piano", heh. Looks like something that will be as hard to get all achievements on as space invaders: IG to me.

reading back in this thread the scoring system doesn't sound very promising based on what was said, basically speedkill everything and chain medals while not being allowed to use any of the gimmicks of the game or your multiplier breaks(!). But will have to see. I'll be happy if it's just fun to 1cc anyway.

Giant Bomb will be doing a quick look on the game, probably next week (source).

^ As much as I love Giant Bomb, I wouldn't really trust their views on shmups... Jeff always plays Cave shooters by doing the amateurish move around as much as possible thing. They don't worry about scoring systems or anything like that. And, personally, with shmups I think stuff like 1cc replays and opinions of people on this forum are more useful than reviews/quick looks anyway.

Giant Bomb was also recently acquired by Gamespot's parent company, so it's come full circle, with Jeff back to working for the company that fired him for his Kane & Lynch review.
