There was a hacking attack at Mameworld done through MAWS. Won't be back for the foreseeable future. Here's a fairly recent thread about it.

aren't they migrating their data to a new host? It's been ages. I miss the site as I used it quite frequently...

My synopsis of the thread Ghegs linked:

I read something about "a lone Indian hacker" but who knows?

They appear to be trying to figure out how the attack happened so that they don't fall prey to it again, and to prevent Mameworld itself from being damaged.

There was some talk of using an Italian service like MAWS (Progretto Emma) as a temporary base or of using miniMAWS as a base.

It appears that one of the big sticking points is that most of the people best placed to fix this are very busy at the moment. Give it a while.
