An interview with G.Rev...

Post by Pyongyang »

Here's a scoop I got with a collaboration interview for my blog. This time it's with G.Rev president Hiroyuki Maruyama. Honestly didn't think this one was going to go through. Thankfully it did!

Here's a link to my write up. Also look out for a video of the interview coming soon courtesy of the good folks at Solaris Japan who made the whole thing happen. :)

Hope you find it an interesting read. :)

Thanks! This is what I wanted to know most:
Is it possible, if Under Defeat HD is successful, that G.Rev are considering giving Border Down an HD makeover? “Border Down is an even older title than Under Defeat, but unlike with UD we feel like we still have unfinished ideas that we would like implement. Because of that we would have to invest quite a lot of resources to remake Border Down. It would probably require the same investment as developing a new title from scratch. Of course, part of me wants to remake Border Down, but I am also the head of Grev and therefore have to think in business terms. So for now we are not planning to remake BD, but give us some time and we perhaps can make it happen in the future”.
Too bad, some posts here made it sound like a BD remake/port was practically a given in case UD is successful.

Definitely interesting how he talks about Border Down as something they would remake (& take a lot of investment) instead of just porting it. Here's to hoping they manage to do it at some point :o

Well considering Border Down is the reason G.Rev was formed I can understand them wanting to do more with it than a simple port job, that game probably means quite a lot to them. Just have to hope that good intentions don't end poorly...I just hope the original is included in an unaltered form if they do end up remaking it, and I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be.

Nice interview, thanks a lot.
Imho, a remake of Border Down would be beautiful. Especially when it ends up bringing the BD concept to a whole new level, just like Gradius V revitalized the Gradius formula.
Kokuga on the 3DS will do them no good. It would have been better to stay on DS or go iOS just like many others do nowadays.

A Border Down HD remake would look visceral indeed.
Only time will tell though.
The original remains my favourite game of all time.

Oh, & Thanks!

Glad folks are enjoying the interview. Thanks for the kind words :)

Just a small note on this one, the interview was recorded on video. Hopefully it should be published before month end. The video will contain a lot more information in addition to the questions I contributed for my blog interview.

Should be interesting anyway. Lots to look forward to. :)

Border Down port categorically ruled out then pretty much.
To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.

yeah shame; would have been great just to get a port... no remake needed beyond maybe a couple of options, although i can appreciate that companies are reluctant to have themselves represented by old work.

A big thank you Pyongyang for getting these great interviews. The Shooting Gameside interview with Yamamoto-san and rancor's from Tokyo Shmups interview were very informative. Please keep it up!

I really don't think you'd like that one anyway.

Maybe this could mean a Border Down HD with three versions- Arcade, Remix, and "Black Label" or whatever they call a new version. I have preordered UD on the PS3 rather than the 360- though I also have a Japanese 360, the PS3 one gets the nod for being region-free.

I'm guessing it'll not hit until 2013, but will probably be something special. Hopefully UDHD is a hit so G.Rev gets a good feeling about this.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
