If that trailer represents the movie well, surely you know the joke now so there's no need to see it.

If I didn't know better, I would have thought this was a parody of horribly dated, "edgy", and misanthropic 90s films like Boondock Saints or Falling Down. But this looks like it was done without any hint of irony :o Also.. did I just see the entire movie in that trailer?

With whats happened recently in my life this movie was a little too close to home (waiting times for diagnostic tests like CT scans is way too long on the NHS)

Ill make a mental note to watch this movie when it comes to DVD

Migraines, wasn't it? Get yourself a good neuro, even if you have to cross the country. I fucked around for 2 years before finding one that actually helped.

The movie, yeah... it looks like a new Falling Down but without the moral gravity. Which kinda makes it party to the same mindset that makes the stupid shit it criticizes popular.

It really aggravates me that the phrase "God Bless America" is now only used in an ironic sense. No one seems to utter the phrase sincerely anymore.

Not bagging on you guys specifically - you didn't start the trend, and you don't have an obligation to be pro-American =P.

The Bush years basically turned the phrase into its era's "...but I took an arrow to the knee".

Migraines, wasn't it?

It was a combination of headaches including pressure in the head and aching neck lymph node. CT came up clear, it looks like it was a combination of stress and the drugs I was taking for dehydration / constipation. Been given a non water based laxative which made me even more dehydrated, then put onto another medicine and been told to put up with the headaches and other side effects and continue taking it probably didnt help.

Luckly the headaches seem to be slowly going away with time

Well to be honest it always was ironic, even when the people saying it were sincere.

Yeah that sounds like a med reaction. Two separate migraine meds I was on gave me the same symptoms. Freaky, but it went away once the drugs cleared my system. Just make sure not to abuse OTC painkillers in the meantime... They tend to make matters worse in the long run.
CT came up clear
Praise to the sungod for that one. I know how scary those things are, waiting on results. Glad to hear things turned out well on the dark side of the spectrum.

Sorry for the extended OT. Medical shit sucks.

Well, yes and no. Someone living in America would obviously be "Pro-American" in the sense that we want our country, and by extension, our individual circumstances, to improve. I know I certainly don't want them to continue in their present decline.

On the other hand, someone from the UK, like yourself, doesn't really have that "obligation" to want the US to improve. We can improve or become a wasteland and it doesn't really matter to you except in whatever way it indirectly affects your circumstances.

You are correct that patriotism isn't necessary, though.

...

I was in a similar boat a few months ago. Went for an MRI -- results in a week. Total cost, 5000 yen. There was no tumor thankfully, but the pain didn't exactly subside immediately. It's clearly stress. If you don't, start exercising... a lot. It will help.

I find that because we have an similar culture that I can relate to many American movies, its when they go full on stars and stripes, statue of liberty been destroyed thats an instant turn off.

Yeah, it did. I appreciate folks wanting their circumstances to improve, but I just don't get patriotism at all (or the link there, really.)

I don't give a fuck about the UK whatsoever. Never did.

Agreed -- the only cool thing about being Texan/American/Whatever is for conversations at bars. Other than that, who fucking cares -- it's not like I chose to be born American. I am thankful I am, and I'm even more thankful I was born a white male. Talk about winning the lottery!

"Patriotism" is when one feels systematically supportive of one's country, regardless of who is in charge. As a consequence, one if total fools are in charge, one ends up supporting terrible policies that can damage one's country. No criticism is allowed - one has to support the country even it is going to nowhere.

The two things do not necessarily sum up to being "pro-American", "pro-English", pro-thefuckyoulike. Unless one is a retard without education (say, that MILF Palin and similar others).

After watching that trailer....it doesn't seem to have much "wink wink, nudge nudge" going on. So, it's a little creepy.

That being said, modern America sucks yak balls. But hey, it ain't bad living here. As long as you don't get sick, that is!

This comment below the trailer was closer to the mark:
Pretty sure the movie is going after the wrong subset of douchebags. As far as I could tell none of the victims in the trailer were billionaire CEOs.
As they said in Platoon "Check your fire! Check your fire!" This may be a fucked up fire mission. Whilst I agree with getting rid of all the cheap reality tv and generally banal programmes on both American and UK tv, boybands and girlbands, incessant cookery and cheap antiques budget shows etc. The real ones who need to be OFF'D are the greedy bankers & deregulated banks who used derivatives & hedge funds to fleece the World's money away into the ether. Plus those munitions companies like Haliburton who have fraudulently ripped billions off the US taxpayer during recent wars, which were started under false pretences.
