3 lives, Normal difficulty.

Rev.C (World) and Rev.D (Japan) will have their own boards. Rev.D adds checkpoints and changes the bit attack to holding button 1 (there's no button 2 in Rev.D at all), which also means no main fire during. There may be other changes.

The world record for Rev.C is Macias's #1 score listed below, which you can watch here.
The world record for Rev.D is 5,822,690 by Oyakata Leo. Autofire was used, and the run was played on PCB.

I think C and D must be separated, not only because of the weapons system (in contrast to C, you can't fire at all as long as your satellites are ejected in the Japanese version, which is a pretty big difference I'd say), but also because D doesn't have the same instant respawn system either, and sends you back to a check point instead. This does add quite some tension to the action, and of course, makes it a bit more difficult.

Played the Japanese version like a man instead of that immediately respawning flummadiddle!*

I don't know about this one. I'm also currently dabbling with Gradius V which is likewise very different from its brethren in the series and also wasn't developed by the same company that made the other games. Yet whereas it's at least easy to see common themes and/or familiar traits in V, Leo is R-Type in name only. I could picture it as a modern homebrew on the Neo Geo, both the audiovisual presentation (flashy graphics, funky soundtrack) and the loose gameplay mechanics feel rather "unofficial" to me. I'm probably a bit harsh on the game, I didn't enjoy it, unfortunately. And the scoring is sensationally stupid: 4m for the remaining lives, up to ~500k for the two spheres before the final boss (miserably failed to "milk" them properly; I wonder if this is a bug or not) and then there's the rest of the game for some peanuts left. Bah.

*Well, I actually also cleared the World version, but died once. We all know what that means for the score...

Board revamped a bit. Still have not made fun score time.

Leo is actually really close to regular R-Type, it's just R-Type influenced a trillion other games. so it's hard to pin anything that doesn't use the exact same mechanics to the series itself. In truth, R-Type Leo has as much to do with the series as ImageFight and X Multiply do, and those are very fundamentally R-Type. Those games are the "Salamander" (<insert joke about X Multiply's setting here>), and Leo is the "Salamander 2" (in so many ways) of the series. That may even be literal... I don't know the dev story of R-Type II.

Stupidly inflated lives bonuses are a counter to, and significantly better than, checkpoint milking, forever.

Forgot to add PLAYER SIDE, since you can actually do that in this game.

Highest stage 5 score!!!! Boss 5 sucks, I'm pretty sure every stage 5 score is people getting to the boss and getting bodied. I need a clear of this already.

I spent about two weeks learning this game for my first 1cc, and as a nice surprise, it turned out deathless as well, which is essential for scoring due to the ridiculously large bonus of 1,000,000 points at the end for each additional life. There's a lot of neat things to say about this game, so I'm considering making some kind of video with commentary, though sadly I lost one cool segment near the end due to OBS stuttering. Oh well.

If there's interest, I'd be happy to do one. The footage that I have though is probably too rough to make the cut. I'll keep messing with the recording software in the meantime and hopefully get a nice video to work with. There's certainly a big part of the experience that the final product alone can't convey (which is part of why I like STG Weekly), so I think it would be a cool format to explore. Thanks for adding me to the leaderboards, by the way.
