Empty locking does not cash in; your multiplier does not apply to enemies destroyed with empty lock. Destroying something with empty lock is the same as destroying it with the regular shot, except it drops more chips as if it were killed with lock-on.

So it's just a way to increase the multiplier more.

Empty locking isn't really necessary - you can score at least 150m with Panzer even if you don't empty lock. It's mainly a scoring technique for perfectionists :V

Kill a large enemy with your C shot (rapid fire) and then hold down your A shot (lock on) just as it dies.

The idea is to kill the enemy while your options are moving into position but before you lock on.

You will get as many 5 chips as if the enemy was locked on but it won't decrease your stage counter.

If you look at any Ketsui score replay online, they'll all do this on the first 2 big ships that come in on the first stage.

Might be because you fly a helicopter in this game, but I have trouble telling where my hitbox is. I can easily tell where it is and dodge accordingly in Dodonpachi, but I seem to lose track of where the hitbox is for my helicopter (sometimes I lose track of the ship entirely) in Ketsui when dodging bullets. I suppose I just need to get more of a feel for it, but you're not alone when it comes to having a hard time telling where your ship is.

Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou Black Label has much easier 2nd Loop requirements than the infamous Ketsui perfect first loop for the Ura Loop. Hibachi's eyesore patterns make up for it at the end of the game, though.
