I pretty much don't have a clue when it comes to the Doujin/Indie scene and it's something I've been meaning to explore for sometime now. I dabbled with a few Touhou "downloads" last year and played Crimzon Clover a fair bit, and certainly regret not buying it now as it doesn't appear to exist online in physical form anyhow.
So does anyone have any recommendations of good titles to check out or avoid?
Also for any Touhou fans. What sites would you suggest using to import the games from. The only place I've managed to find copies at, is JBox, and are the prices reasonable on there, in comparison to others you may know about or have seen? The import sites i've used for years, don't stock these titles sadly.
Any help, links or info will be greatly appreciated.

rancor will be glad to help you out. Just browse a little on his site: http://tokyoshmups.com/
Sadly, something like Mizuumi.net for shmups I have not found yet, I would also like to know if there is something like a doujin shmups news site...

Cho Ren Sha is one of the very best and it's freeware (originally commercial).
Hellsinker is a great game by Ruminant's Whimperer, and Siter Skain makes some of the best commercial doujin shooters like RefleX and Kamui.
Finally, there are some other great freeware gems if you know where to look. Vacant Ark is one of my favorites.
shootthecore.moonpod.com used to be a great website for learning all about the wonderful world of independent shoot 'em ups but it's been dead for a while now.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Rancor is an option for the games, but there's also a guy on the shrinemaiden.org board (N-Forza) that lives in Japan and can get you basically any game/merch that you want if it's still available for purchase. That's not limited to Touhou crap, either...I've seen people get stuff like the DOJ hyper necklaces and other limited items from Cave's shop. Other shops:AmidstStorm wrote:Also for any Touhou fans. http://www.toranoana.jp - General doujin goods and comic store, but they also sell a lot of figures as well.
http://www.w-canvas.com - Another doujin store, smaller than Tora no Ana, but they seem to have a greater focus on Touhou stuff.
