New Plinkett review: Indiana Jones 4!
Worthy of its own thread, Plinkett finally puts out a new review: that shitty new Indiana Jones movie!
For those that haven't yet watched a Plinkett review, check out his Phantom Menace one and heal the pain Lucas left in all our hearts.

Re: New Plinkett review: Indiana Jones 4!
Crystal Skull sucked, but it wasn't the complete shit-catastrophe that the Star Wars prequels were, so there wasn't as much to rip apart. It was still moderately amusing, though. Some of the Plinkett gag scenes kind of sucked.
Maybe the Matrix Revolutions review will be up there in the shit factor ;P
He should start doing shorter, 20-25 minute reviews similar to his Avatar review.

Who the hell is Plinkett and why should I care?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Re: New Plinkett review: Indiana Jones 4!
He's some kind of film director/producer who puts a ridiculous amount of effort into scrutinizing and breaking down the flaws of movies, especially bad ones. He rips into the Star Wars Prequels with precision, and makes their failings compared to the originals painfully obvious(like Obi Wan telling Anakin a lightsaber is his life, when Yoda said in the original that those things don't matter).Strider77 wrote:Who the hell is Plinkett and why should I care?
Despite his psychotic schtick(and you'll find lots of that), he's a genuinely informative speaker, so it's worth hearing his perspective once in a while.

Yeah, the review was really interesting, especially with the amount of references he compiled. I'm still pissed I saw the fuckin movie in the theater, or really just the fact that I've seen the movie in general. I didn't really find him funny (like everything online), but he did a damn good job breaking down that turd.

You know what pisses me off? It's been like, what? 5 years? Something like that since the release of this piece of shit of a movie and... and it already looks terribly dated. Fucking stupid CGI. That alone killed the movie for me. And many others as well. Real puppets and FX for the win.

I know it's immature, but I'm still laughing at the way he blew up his TV in this review.

I never saw this movie, but this review makes me glad I didn't.
Shame, because it seemed like the good stuff had lots potential.

The reviewer disects every part of the quadroligy to the point of pulling your own hair out. I only watched part 1. I get his point and agree with it all but its far too long as a review. It sounds like a college paper.

Honestly, I actually enjoyed Indy 4 when I first saw it. But upon further review and after rewatching the original trilogy later, it really highlights what Crystal Skull lacks. It's not so much the alien business that makes the movie weak, just the way nearly everything is presented.

Well its like the guy said, there is no illustration of the threat. The skull itself is mystical but it doesn't show a threat of any kind. When the skull is put in place the aliens do a runner and no evidence is left intact.
Something that I also noticed that I think nobody else has put any emphasis on was the lack of the Indiana Jones score. The soundtrack barely made an appearance in the whole 2 hours.

It's worth noting that Plinkett is actually a character being portrayed by RedLetterMedia - I'm not entirely sure it's necessary to push the serial killer subplot underlying many of the reviews as far as they do, and to a degree it undermines the actual thought that goes into each review, but for the most part it makes the videos entertaining in their own right.cj iwakura wrote:He's some kind of film director/producer who puts a ridiculous amount of effort into scrutinizing and breaking down the flaws of movies, especially bad ones. Yeah I also enjoyed it when I saw it in theaters. I wasn't expecting much, though, so I wasn't too disappointed. Like Plinkett says, I don't think it hurts the Indy brand at all the way Lucas is doing to SW. As usual, all the points Plinkett made were accurate, but I can't honestly bear the film any real ill-will or revulsion or whatever. Indy 4 is just a harmless sub-par movie. I'd probably watch it on TV or something if nothing was on.

Foolishness, sir! Uncomfortable humor is one of the trademarks of Redlettermedia. You're nodding along, telling Plinkett to preach, brother, then, wait a minute, you have a hooker tied up in your creepy basement?StarCreator wrote:It's worth noting that Plinkett is actually a character being portrayed by RedLetterMedia - I'm not entirely sure it's necessary to push the serial killer subplot underlying many of the reviews as far as they do, and to a degree it undermines the actual thought that goes into each review, but for the most part it makes the videos entertaining in their own right.
It's like that one Dave Attell routine:
Dave: I think people should be able to speak their minds on television without censorship!
Audience: Yaaaay!
Dave: I think if you want to smoke pot, it's your own body, you can do what you please with it!
Audience: Yaaaay!
Dave: And I think you should be able to bang at least one cousin if she's hot enough!
Audience: Yaa- wait, what?

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Definitely agree with this. Never saw this movie, but it did happen to be playing at a sibling's house before we all sat down for dinner this Christmas. One of my brothers-in-law and I kind of had a similar conversation. There were some action sequences in the first Indy that may have been a little crazy, but inventive camera work, editing, and real stuntmen at least kind of made it somewhat believable (okay, even if it wasn't always completely believable, you knew it was a real person trying to pull it off). I can't stand the over reliance on CGI in movies today. The five minute sequence I did watch involved a vehicle chase with an armored car falling off of a cliff, landing in a tree, and then gentling rolling off the tree branches into a creek only to drive away...Awful.

Yeah, like I said earlier, he should be doing 20-25 minute reviews unless the movie really deserves it. Crystal Skull really didn't IMO.neorichieb1971 wrote:The reviewer disects every part of the quadroligy to the point of pulling your own hair out. I only watched part 1. Also, I can tell the man has respect for Spielberg, if nothing else.

Re: New Plinkett review: Indiana Jones 4!
Using CG in the movie defeated the spirit of the original movies, which were intentionally made cheesy (the closing door is almost down, then it's up again, and look at those alligators ripping clothing as if they're actual people, etc). I didn't mind the UFO stuff, but the CG was bad. It's made filmmakers too lazy. I didn't mind the part about Indy marrying Marion either. I thought that was a nice touch. A lot of it was nitpicking (I don't care how many people Indy kills in a movie, because it's the adventure that counts, not the bodycount), but as always he makes good points. The Tarzan scene was really dumb, and again, it's more lousy CG.
The Soviets in the movie were really cool, but Plinkett has a very good point. They were supposed to be evil. You can't have the bad guys in an Indiana Jones movie not be totally evil. Lucas and Spielberg's retroactive armchair analysis of the Cold War was stupid, painting us as really no better than the Soviets, Communism is just "misunderstood," etc. People forget that Stalin alone had millions of people killed.
