Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
Yes, unsuspectedly is a word.
I was wondering if people of the community could name Wii games they actually had a good time with. Any kind of game is welcome : platformer, party games, kids and family games, strategy, simulation (Alexandra Ledermann anyone ?) etc...
As for me :
- City Builder : pretty fun actually, great music and simple concept allows for not so much time consuming Sim City like
- Bit Trip Collection : boy, is that good ? Beat Trip : CORE is definitely the best, check at those patterns !
- Wii Party : actually very fun to play with your family and little nieces.
- Just Dance : seems stupid at first, but if you happen to like the song, you instantly happen to like the game.
- Endless Ocean : remember that Ecco The Dolphin feeling when you were just wondering about in deep water ? The same here, except that there is no other objective in the game.

Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
If anyone remembers deadtech who used to post here, he collects a lot of those off-beat Wii games. One I remember liking was MiniCopter: Adventure Flight. It's not the best-programmed game, it doesn't have the best graphics, but it really is pretty fun. I don't know if it's something I'd end up spending a lot of time with, but if people on this thread are looking for strange unheard-of Wii games, that's a good one (from what I saw of it).
Two games I liked a lot which I thought I wouldn't were Ghost Squad and Mario Galaxy. Ghost Squad I heard was a pretty bad port. I bought it on sale, and ended up spending hours upon hours playing it.
The same goes for Mario Galaxy: When I went to buy my Wii, I wanted Metroid Prime 3 with it. But, they were out, so I picked up Mario Galaxy. Even though it was a hit game, I was prepared to not like it-- I hated Mario 64, and Sunshine wasn't (imo) very good. But, Galaxy (1 & 2) ended up being a couple of my favorite platformers of all time. And I nearly always prefer 2d platforming games over 3d.
The Midway Pinball Collection also took me by surprise. The physics were very good, tables well-modeled, graphics were clear, and it comes with full explanations of the scoring and rules. That might not sound like a big deal, but the rules are pretty long. I think the collection is also available for a few other consoles.

Klonoa: visuals are not as interesting as in the original, but still a good game. really easy though iirc.
Fragile Dreams: gameplay is pretty shit, story not that great, but it's still got a nice and unique atmosphere to it.
there's some fishing game that came out recently, published in the us by xseed. i heard that's pretty good.

It's basically the Japanese only sequel to LostMagic for DS. It plays like an RTS with you directing a team of monsters and drawing spells with the Wiimote.guigui wrote:Anyone cares to developp about Takt of Magic ? I dont know anything about this game...

Dawn of Discovery was an awesome "RTS lite" title. Not too involved or complicated, but just enough to keep things interesting. The Wii controller works incredibly with it's point and click interface.

Well yeah but it's really import friendly with all the tutorials making usage of symbols to make it easy to figure out. Only thing you'll miss out on is story.guigui wrote:Oh, so it is Jap language only ?
Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
The Wii version is good, but Williams Pinball Hall of Fame's versions on Xbox 360/PS3 have three extra tables (Medieval Madness, No Good Gophers, and Tales of Arabian Nights) and supposedly have improved physics. I have the PS2 one, but I'm getting the 360 one for Christmas since I heard the new tables are very good. There's also that new The Pinball Arcade coming from the same makers that will be on multiple systems as a downloadable with DLC tables. It has licenses from Stern (which covers SEGA and Data East Pinball), Bally, Williams, and Gottlieb. One of the tables previewed, Ripley's Believe it or Not is a table based on a license.louisg wrote: The Midway Pinball Collection also took me by surprise. No High Speed, the three tables (Medieval Madness, Tales of the Arabian Nights, and No Good Gophers) are the only ones added. Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
This, one billion percent. I never really liked Mario 64 too much [stop throwing rocks at me!], didn't like Sunshine too much [stop throwing Molotovs at me], but Galaxy is 100% wonderful.louisg wrote:...Mario Galaxy. It's also the only Wii game I own in this category -- the rest of em I picked up expecting something I'd like. Of course, this is why I only have 10 or so Wii games.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
I was pleasantly surprised by No More Heroes 2. The retro games were particularly cool. Also the hardcore moe shmup + ova video were priceless.
I also liked House of the Dead Overkill. I've never really been all that into rail shooters, but this one was lots of fun, esp when played with a buddy/sibling.
The bit.trip games were pure win, although after trying the first I had high expectations for all the rest. A few of the art style games are good fun too.
And Wii Fit.... Yup.

Yeah, that's the one; I just got the name wrong.guigui wrote:Midway Pinball Collection on Wii, is it the same as William's Pinball Hall of Fame ?
There must be some licensing issue with it. You'd think that would be a no-brainer to put on a collection.BrianC wrote:No High Speed, the three tables (Medieval Madness, Tales of the Arabian Nights, and No Good Gophers) are the only ones added. It's got Heavy Barrel with the aiming mapped to a stick (so you aim the direction you press like a true twin stick shooter). It also has a fantasy game with the most unintentionally hilarious intro you'll ever see.xbl0x180 wrote:I want to get the Data East Collection, which includes Magical Drop![]()

I can only see someone enjoying this for anything other than the camp value if they've never played an arcade gun shooter before. It's that bad.Moniker wrote:I also liked House of the Dead Overkill. It's maddening that Overkill got released on two consoles, while HotD 4 has yet to receive a home port.
Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
Zak & Wiki is probably my favorite game on the console. Light hearted, crazy puzzle game in the vein of old point and click adventure games.
Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
Wii version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is pretty good, completely different and much better than uninspiring and boring 360/PS3/PC counterparts. It's almost like lost sequel of the 2008 game.
Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
But the Mega-CD version has... ANIME

Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
Thanks for the titles guys, Data East Collection is definitely something I'll look into.
As for Rail Shooters, I also liked Overkill a lot, the director's cut version you unlock afeter finishing the game is jsut good.
However, I prefered Dead Space : extraction. I was really surprised by the quality of the title, the number of weapons you can use and the fact that they actually have different behaviors. Of course, play it in the hardest mode on the go.

Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
I'm a big fan of rail shooters so there are some games that I've really enjoyed even though they've got appalling reviews across the board.
Transformers Cybertron Adventures - pretty good, like Umbrella Chronicles it's more about accuracy and learning the layout of the levels. Because of the graphical limitations of the Wii everything has a Tron / Cel shaded look - really nice. No online leaderboards, bummer.
Ghost Recon - this is a weird version that everyone on a certain forum was crowing about. As a two player rail shooter it's great, and even playing single player the AI is still really good. Has online leaderboards as well.
Jurassic the Hunted (Re-released as Top Shot Dino Hunter) - An fps where you play the world's biggest putz, but basically you shoot dinosaurs. The re-release has extra modes included like a set of shooting galleries - kind of like those Cabala games but with dinosaurs.
Dragon's Lair Trilogy - Basically Dragon's Lair 1 & 2 plus Space Ace. The good thing about these is that you can select difficulty, plus have on screen prompts switched on or off. The difficulty of these games is ridiculous without the prompts, but I still remember seeing someone complete the first game back in the golden days of arcades.
Sin & Punishment 2 - Another great game but I've hardly put any time into it.
Zelda Skyward Sword - I'm really enjoying this. The controls work well and I prefer the pacing of this game over the older games (never played Twilight Princess though).
I was a bit disappointed in Mario Galaxy, I thought it was too easy and at times felt like a bunch of mini games given a Mario skin - still really good though.

Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
I think he just said Midway by accident, since Midway was owned by the same company. As far as I know, there is no Midway pinball collection, just Williams.guigui wrote:Midway Pinball Collection on Wii, is it the same as William's Pinball Hall of Fame ?
Speaking of Pinball Hall of Fame, I found the Gottlieb PS2 one to be underrated, from what I played so far. Physics aren't perfect, but I didn't find them to be bad either. It gets a bad rap for older tables, but the older tables are one reason I like it, and the tables there are good. I heard it's buggy so my opinion might change latter, though.
I'm not aware of any licensing issues with it. Some other notable unlicensed pinballs were left off as well. It did get a NES version, and hopefully, it will end up as a table for The Pinball Arcade, as well.louisg wrote: There must be some licensing issue with it (High Speed). Pinball games - even the crappiest ones - on any system are waaaay better than pool games on any system (except for the Sega Genesis... I recall there was a decent pool game for that console). Just bought Pocket Pool for the PSP and it is very, very crappy

I think someone mentioned it already, I spent WAY more time than I expected playing Endless Ocean.
Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
Genesis had more than one decent Pool game with two Side Pocket games, the second one being Minnesota Fats Pool Legend (also on Saturn). I like both games and Side Pocket is good on NES, as well. I actually like some of the home versions of Side Pocket better than the arcade. As for other Pool games, I haven't played too many, but I found Lunar Pool to be extremely fun, despite not resembling real pool. Trick Shot on 2600 was surprising good too, despite having only 3 balls, aside from the cue.xbl0x180 wrote:Pinball games - even the crappiest ones - on any system are waaaay better than pool games on any system (except for the Sega Genesis... I disagree on the pinball games. Some of them have terrible physics or can be buggy to the point of being unplayable. I found even pinball games with imperfect physics can still be good, though. Video Pinball 2600 is a good example. Physics are bad, but the tilt mechanic where you control the ball makes it fun. I like other early video pinball games too. Pinball on the Intellivision is surprisingly good and has multiple playfields.

Are there any pool games I can play on a U/C 360, a J360, North American Wii, or a North American PS2 slim

Re: Those wii games you unsuspectedly like
I don't know that much about pool games, Side Pocket was just one I grew up with on NES. I think Gameloft released one for US Wii VC. I actually liked the DS Midnight Pool (which has a version on Wii) in the Midnight Play Pack, though. I heard that one archer mclean pool paradise game that came out for US GCN and PS2 is decent.xbl0x180 wrote:Are there any pool games I can play on a U/C 360, a J360, North American Wii, or a North American PS2 slim
