Gundam Extreme Vs. coming to PS3 - December 1st

Already 70% complete and set for this December 1st. New features include some to-be-announced original modes, custom soundtrack support, and online play.

Since the arcade version runs on Namco System 357 hardware (the same that Tekken 6/BR runs on), I always knew that at least a PS3 port was plausible. In fact, early location test videos showed the game running on PS3s. But I thought that they would let the arcade version circulate more before any home ports were announced, so I didn't think it would be this soon.

8,380 yen (approx. $109 USD, according to Google) is pricey, though...Regardless, Gundam Vs. Gundam Next Plus on the PSP had me hooked for quite a while. I'm hyped to finally be able to play this. Time to save up for an import.

If you don't know the Gundam Vs. series, it is mecha combat similar to Virtual-On, but it's not simply Virtual-On with a Gundam coat of paint. Both sides have a resource meter, which is like a respawn pool; to win, one must destroy enough enemy machines to deplete the enemy's resources, with higher-powered Gundams costing more in resources.

Don't wan to drop that much on an import. Not a huge fan of Gundam but have been dying to get my Virtual On fix on a PS3 lol

Not sure how much Namco Bandai is getting from localizing Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3, but if they were willing to bring that to the US, perhaps Gundam Extreme Vs. has a shot. DWG3 also has an entire cast of English VAs in place, so that end of localization wouldn't be difficult.

Being able to play locally with linked consoles on separate TVs would be a great addition.

I got it yesterday and I've already had over 150 matches online and cleared a whole bunch of trial missions and it's been a blast. I'm no expert on the series and I haven't really touched the previous games but this really easy for a beginner to get into and have chances against more experienced players. The netcode is damn good as I haven't had a single hick-up and the lag isn't even noticable when playing with 3 other people pretty much other side of the world.

I wonder if this will be able to play with local console linking/networking?

There isn't at least right now. They are patching the multiplayer at least for online but I suppose they'd rather have people play in the arcades than setting up their PS3's for LAN.

The main navigation menu is in katakana with the corresponding english name on top of the screen, smaller details are completely in japanese. I suppose you'd have to rely on translations (already exist) for other things like the pre-set messages you can input during multiplayer (taking front/retreating etc or CPU partner commands) or host commands when hosting an online game and reassigning controller button layout. It's not a JRPG with tons of text so you should be able to play the game just fine without knowing japanese. I'd definitely recommend the game if you're looking to play it online.

Video tutorial for what? Might want to check out Youtube, there should be at least a video or two with people going through the menus to single player/online.

All the navigation menus have both english and japanese. I actually never noticed the english before I looked for it but you'll definitely able to get through the menus all the way to the different game modes. You might need translation for online menu, key config and trial mission clear/medal requirements and upgrades but I believe that's about it.
