Re: Q and A
A: As much flak as the hobby gets online, I've never seen anyone react badly when actually presented with a well sculpted figure in person. The Japanese figure industry has a startling amount of talent backing it and it's very easy to get sucked in - I once linked a friend a couple figures that I thought looked pretty good, and three months later he had a literal wall of unopened figures in his closet. Definitely had an "ohgodwhathaveIdone" moment there.
In the end, it's just a hobby of collecting things that look nice. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Re: Q and A
A: For lack of a proper joystick at home, I rarely pass up opportunities to play some familiar games like Pacman, Gal's Panic or Qix, Street Fighter II, Metal Slug, Bubble Bobble on a proper cabinet; a keyboard isn't enough.StarCreator wrote:Q: Are there any games you regularly go to the arcade to play even though you have easy access to play it ported/emulated/supergunned at home?
The same applies to pinball machines vs Visual Pinball, although they are often frustratingly damaged and inclined.
Unfortunately, I have no arcade to "regularly go to": I find fewer and fewer arcades on vacation, and I look for coin-ops and pinball machines in every bar I see. In Italy, ugly electronic slot machines have replaced more fun but less profitable electronic entertainment almost everywhere.
Q: Apart from the time, in the late '80s and early 90's, when the typical small bar had two cabinets and a pinball machine and arcades where a flourishing business, what period are you nostalgic about? What do you miss?
Re: Q and A
A: I'm pretty much nostalgic about everything from the late-80s and early-90s.
I miss anime and manga from that same period. I'm not saying anime was better, but stuff like Akira, Gunbuster, Bubblegum Crisis really blew my mind back then and I miss that kind of excitement.

A: I don't own a LD player myself. From what I understand, the LD versions of the original unaltered Star Wars trilogy are the ones to play/own. Tis a shame they won't be getting a HD transfer to Blu-ray with the upcoming SW Blu-Ray set this September 2011.

A: I saw some interesting paintings during my recent visit to the Louvre Museum. The most noteworthy one was the painting of the Coronation of Napoleon...that thing is HUGE: 6.21 m × 9.79 m (20 ft 4 in × 32 ft 1 in). Really impressive piece of art.

Japanese for videogames and ancient Greek for classical literature, but "wanting to learn" might be an exaggeration.RNGmaster wrote:Q: What languages have you ever wanted to learn?
Which foreign country do you regret not visiting (or not visiting at the right time)?
Re: Q and A
A: East Germany, since it was so close, and the country doesn't exist anymore. Would've been interesting to experience it "live" and then see how much it has changed today, however, I was too young to go on my own back then.
Generally though, I'm a keen traveller, so when I get the chance to visit some place new I jump on the opportunity.

A: On vacation in Berlin, I failed to finish a small glass bottle of something wrong that, IIRC, involved beer and caramel.rancor wrote:Q: - Worst bottled (or canned) beverage?
The name escapes me; it was an industrial soft drink with a nice label, and it was appallingly common.
On the other hand, fruit-flavoured beer (a traditional Berlin beverage) proved as good as normal beer. (Disclaimer: I like Cherry Coke, don't trust me.)
Q: Worst meat, fish, or dead animal in general that you have actually eaten? (Two categories: raw and cooked.)
Re: Q and A
Raw: I like squid, but I had this one sushi that had some foul sauce on it or something, I couldn't choke it down. Kaiten sushi can lead to some poor impulsive decisions. It's all maguro from here on out.Ixmucane2 wrote:Q: Worst meat, fish, or dead animal in general that you have actually eaten? (Two categories: raw and cooked.)
Cooked: I hate hate hate these little fishy guys that are sometimes used as snack foods here in Japan. They're real small, like a clipped nail-size, and they're all intact, from their little tails to their accusatory eyes. They pop up in my salads from time to time and they taste as good as they look.

Re: Q and A
A: Oddly enough, not the ones from my childhood. I think I played Phantasy Star 10-20 times through as a child, I get more excited to replay specific games from times when I was more excited about games. Jet Set Radio has always been a favorite, as it was when I "got back into games" and Sega had some creativity left (RIP). There's actually a handful from this era, probably from when I first started college to a few years after I got out. This was an incredible time for me, as I had no responsibilities, so I enjoyed the games more. Slower and slower real life took over, so it's that era from my early to mid-20's that I'm a sucker for, even if now I enjoy games from a generation prior even more.NTSC-J wrote: Q: What game makes you nostalgia the hardest?

Re: Q and A
A. Quite often, but not every single night. I wrote this too my friend Brooke earlier, "Last night I dreamed that I was shooting at stuff from a porch in the dark. I couldn't see what was out there at all but could hear it. Then this light comes on and you and Gerald and a bunch of people we know are all sneaking up on me. I started bitching at you all because I could have shot you but you started arguing with me about it and I'm like "You're crazy, guns are dangerous!" and you're all like "Why don't you just chill out and have some fun!" So I leave and when I get home my dad and family are gathered around the table for Thanksgiving but they're cooking OLD PEOPLE. So then I get into an argument with my dad about the morality of cannibalism and Mad Cow disease. My dad gets super pissed so I lock myself up in my room and then you and Gerald were banging on the door trying to get me to come out and I woke up."
I had a drunk friend fire a gun at my feet a few weeks ago, I've been meaning to download 'Cannibal Holocaust' (did so tonight, also Fulci's Gates of Hell trilogy), and I've been watching my 88 year old grandmother lately so it's like a combination of all that stuff. Kinda funny really.

Someone who is willing to accept any idea, given fundamental proof, or at the very least, a reasonable idea to believe such notion is true, while coinciding to logic and common sense. I do not believe the same god who endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.

A: At this point in my life, Kerouac.
Mostly from what I've read in Dharma Bums has made me see life in a brighter light, or at least give me an idea what's possible. Kerouac's character; Ray Smith, isn't what drew me into the book. Japhy Ryder, Smith's inspirational mountain climbing peer. "You can't fall off a mountain, you fool."

Re: Q and A
A: If by "worked out" you mean amicable split, then yes. I dated a girl while I was working at a company back in America. I told her I was leaving and she said "I don't blame - you, this place sucks". I think she was talking about the job..
Anyhow, we had good times for a few more weeks, and then I left. I haven't talked to her in 6 years now.

Q) your most tragic bullshit with a girl ?too put it short, she was cheating on me and tried to steel a lot of my stuff the day i went broke and couldn't buy her anything. i managed to trick her and get all my stuff back plus a pokemon ds game after coaxing the gold digger into a free meal at Steak N Shake. when i found out she was cheating on me, i cheated on her (with a dude), then humped the shit out of her, literally. i told her afterwards that i cheated on her and that she really sucked at sucking dick and told her to get the fuck out.

A: Believe it or not, my sex life is pretty tame as I'm not into whips, pain, or anything like that. I did have a GF one time go down on me and she got a little zealous. A: With shooters, it's probably Gunbird 2 at about 250 hours (real rough estimate here) spread out over 10 years. I've played through SotN and Final Fantasy's 7 and 8 a million times so those could be even more than that. Longest I've played a game in a sitting was either the time I played Pokemon Puzzle League with friends from early evening to dawn the next day or when I got Final Fantasy 9 and played it for 55 hours over 3 days. Of these games, I still play GB2.GaijinPunch wrote:Q: Longest hours you've clocked on a single game and over what time frame. Any genre works. Do you still play that game?
