I was considering buying one, but there's something I'm not sure:
do they support both NTSC and PAL? Like, if I connect a PCEDuo with composite.
EDIT: what about RGB scart through a jap console, like a sfc or md?
Are they a good alternative to a vga crt monitor + XRGB?
Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
Re: Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
NTSC composite did not work on my 1084 back in the days. Picture was black&white only. RGB is fine though, no matter if PAL or NTSC systems. If you're ok with the 13" inch visible screen size, then the 1084 series is awesome - no question about it !
Re: Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
I see.
Another super noob question:
composite through xrgb sucks on lcd, from what i read, but i wonder how it would look using a crt instead of lcd monitor?
I really want to avoid using composite, but the Famicom is a bitch, so RGB for it is out of the question

Re: Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
It looks about the same. Composite - if unprocessed - is just ugly. There are comb filters which you can use, but it's still far from RGB. And getting your Famicom or NES RGB modded is still cheaper than getting a XRGB or any other processor.
Re: Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
it's true, but shouldn't they have problems with jailbars, different colors and incompatibility with some games?

not with a proper RGB mod.it's true, but shouldn't they have problems with jailbars
hardly with the right PPUdifferent colors
nothing important and even if 5 of 1000 games don't work, I wouldn't mind if I can play the rest in glorious RGB.and incompatibility with some games?
Re: Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
well, thanks for clearing my doubts, i'm not much of an expert when it comes to this stuff, so that's good to know.
i think i'm gonna get the commodore monitor, though i wonder who could do the rgb mod for me.
EDIT: Sorry for asking a lot of questions, but what other 15khz crt monitors would you recommend? Still gonna get a 1084, but just in case i need an alternative...

Re: Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
I have a Philips CM 8533 which I understand is quite similar to the 1084.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Re: Questions about Commodore 1084s monitors
I've got an original Amiga 1080 13" RGB monitor but it doesn't have all the necessary pot trim controls that a typical 1084 monitor has (useful for adjusting the screen if playing arcade PCBs + supergun on it).
It looks awesome running PCBs with an 1080 considering there's no burn-in issues to contend with (which is a plus in my book).
On the backside of my 1080, it mentions a manufactured date of January 1986 & made in Japan (so the build/overall workmanship of it is rather impeccable indeed).
