Akai Katana Shin PAL confirmed!

Post by spadgy »

That's right. Rising Star Games is bringing Akai Katana Shin to the PAL territories.

They're announcing it on stage now! More details as I get 'em!

EDIT (Nov 3rd):

Here's the official press release on the game:
Rising star Games wrote:Rising Star Games is pleased to announce the continuation of its partnership wtih CAVE, with a deal to bring another incredible CAVE title, Akai Katana Shin, to Europe in 2012.

Akai Katana Shin was originally available in arcades. This Xbox 360 version, scheduled for release in the first half of 2012, has been remastered for home consoles. The display ratio has been expanded to make full use of HD TV widescreen visuals, and the visuals rendered in HD.

“There is always something special about a CAVE game,” says Martin Defries, managing director, Rising Star Games, “and Akai Katana Shin is no exception. It’s an exceptional shooter, which looks stunning in HD, and we’re delighted to be able to give it the full Rising Star Games treatment when we release it next year.”

Akai Katana Shin takes place in a fictional era resembling the years of industrial expansion in Japan, full of hope for reconstruction. Amidst record-breaking economic growth and technical innovation, the people of this era discover a new energy source, a mineral called Guiding Ore.
A powerful natural resource, this Guiding Ore held other mysterious qualities. It could be tempered into a blade, a “Guiding Katana” that endowed certain soldiers who held special symbols with access to a unique psychic power.

It was said that once this katana killed another human being, it would turn blood-red and endow its owner with an overwhelming power. It was this power that the Emperor Basho used to expand his reign, waging war on his country’s neighbors with an elite battalion who wielded the so-called “blood swords”.

Now only a small squadron of rebels stands against his empire and its most fearsome generals. The struggle for justice begins here.

Akai Katana Shin will be released in 2012, on Xbox 360..

Thanks for posting spadgy! Great news indeed.
Hopefully the release date isn't too far away...this endless waiting game so many publishers play is really annoying.

Great, I thought after the release of Akai Katana in Japan that's it. But now we are getting DDP DFK, Akai Katana, Under Defeat, DDP via Instant Brain, a few new mobile shmups aaaaand the emulation stuff. Looks like a nice year for us "casual" shmupers. :D

Thanks Raising Star, I even bought Lux-Pain and I'm not a fan of this genre.

Anyway I hope for my bros across the pond that Dodonpachi Resurrection has decent sales from American Importers so that AKS gets the same dual regoin treatment

THX RSG you guys are great! Im gonna continue buying your back catalog of Wii games new instead of just emulating them.

I've honestly heard nothing about Ketsui coming to 360 via RSG.

I'm off out with Mrs spadgy now, but I've contacted RSG for full details that I can post here about AKS PAL.

Oh hell yes.

Preordering as soon as it becomes possible at the place I'll very likely buy it from.
My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself

Hell yeah! I'll definitely pre-order this when available. AKS was my most wanted region-locked Cave for release in PAL territories. Thank so much for bringing this Rising Star Games.

I'd definitely grab it if it were truly region free, being an owner of a Japanese 360. (It's pretty annoying that not being locked out of NTSC U/C seems to be the only qualification for people to consider it "region free" even when it's still locked out of NTSC J.) Even if it isn't though, it's still a win for a lot of people who didn't have access to the game before.

I had to fork out for two 360s and, yet, I still find myself getting locked out of some PAL games (namely rugby and cricket games) I'd mainly buy the RSG PAL versions to lend out or give away to other people who only have NTSC U/C 360s 8)

Basically this. Same reason I never bought Deathsmiles and won't be buying DFK.

Like the mass majority of dedicated shmup players, we have Japanese 360s, not American ones. And if you're in Europe, there's even less reason to own a PAL 360.

I haven't actively browsed/used this forum in many years and it's no longer an accurate representation of me.

I have retired from genre-specific content creation after 13 years, but I'll always love this little genre in my own personal way.

It's awesome news to hear RSG finally getting the exclusive PAL rights to AKS. The next pressing question is: Will it be region-free & playable on NTSC-U 360 consoles?

Same question as PC Engine X! However, it might be worthwhile to ask them directly instead of via this forum:
