Actually I'm really curious, what have been your favorite ova's/series from the last decade? It sounds like we probably have pretty similar taste.

Well, let me think. I did like Fate/Stay Night, but mainly for the character designs. Saber especially, but Tousaka was nice too. It had some nice action in it. GTO was great, as well as Cromartie High School. The Disgaea and Galaxy Angel shows were fun and cute. I've only seen the first volume of Haruhi Suzumiya, but I really got into it. Moonlight Mile and Planetes seem great, although I haven't dived too much into them yet. The same goes for Stellvia (I've read the two volumes of the manga, though). Grenadier was cool, despite my aversion to large breasts (they were drawn better in the manga), but the manga version was better than the anime.

Then there are stuff that is being continued from the golden age of anime. Matsumoto Leiji still makes stuff, such as Galaxy Railways, Harlock and Maetel shows, and Cosmo Warrior Zero. There's also newer stuff like Gundam Unicorn (a continuation of the UC timeline), new Space Adventure Cobra, as well as new Votoms. Haven't seen much of these, but I like what I've seen so far. There are also newer additions to Legend of the Galactic Heroes through various gaiden miniseries.

By far, the best was the Crest/Banner of the Stars series. There's a bit of overlap with that since it started in 1999.

I may be overlooking some stuff, but that's what I can come up with at the moment.

That's a great list, I'll definitely check some of it out. I didn't realize that there's a new Votoms show. Lately I've been watching random 80's/90's ova's that I've found at second hand video stores. I dig their weirdness, but the plot is usually incomprehensible. For example, I just saw Twilight of the Dark Master, and Bio Hunter (which was actually decent).

Fun discussion!

Was into animé a couple of years ago... got in through AKIRA and... yeah, pretty much everything else after that was below par.
That being said though; GitS, Macross, Lain and experimental anime (like that of Masaaki Yuasa) is awesome. Basically everything that tries to NOT pander to what a fringe group of nerds want to wank off to.
The whole moe thing is just completely foreign to me. I don't see how people watching shit like that don't feel like the most massive of tools. Moe just fuckin' reeks of FOREVER ALONE.

Even modern shooters use the loli/moe thing way too much. If it weren't for the games being good, i highly doubt i'd ever play Deathsmiles, Ibara etc.
Don't attempt to bring up Otomedius because i won't play that one.
Bring back good ol' manly military design a'la Ketsui, Battle Garegga and so on. That shit's AWESOMESAUCE.

Is this Part II of the "Why modern animu sucks" topic? It definitely reads like it. Let's face it, the genre blows, and I'm about a fourth of the way through Clannad to see how badly things have gotten. After this show, I'm going to have to track down some Adachi Mitsuru animated adaptations to cleanse my palate 8)

Cartoons about "little girls doing cute things" are tailored for foreveralone types

It's so freakin' MOE! The animation in some episodes can be really smooth, though, so it's not completely bottom-of-the-barrel. It makes me see a lot of talent is being wasted doing this junk. I'd kill for a Kimagure Orange Road (sooOOoo0 MOE!<3 ) clone done with this kind of animation quality.

I wonder how well these cartoons and comics do with girls and female adults. One thing I always figured is that, should I end up with a crappy animoe series, I could just give it away to a little niece or give it away to the local public library

Looks like Zinc-chan was drawn by Misakura Nankotsu, which means there's a 99% chance that girl has a gigantic penis hidden under her dress. The phallic zinc-thing sticking out of her, and the milky heart-shaped thing on her crotch strongly hint at that also.

Edit : also this http://www.maleherbalsystems.com/zinc-s ... ction.html

Moe and so many modern anime is so fucking boring. It seems like every TV series has the same story its just that the characters have different names and hairstyles.

Highschool setting, male 15YO lead who lives alone, either his parents are dead or traveling abroad. (They will make a out of the blue appearance for 1 episode, act like pricks and bugger off again). A childhood sweetheart who lives nextdoor and makes his bento. Male either goes to school during the day and fights aliens or monsters at night or is a harem where the lead or love interests have psychological problems. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz

While there is the odd good show still been made, so much of it is going the same way as shmups have. Just swap the smartbombs, 3 lives and chaining for sauna, beach episodes and pantyshots

Shit, can we ban the word "animu" here starting today? I am so sick of reading that. This isn't 4chan here, people. That word is used by anime fans who try to posture themselves as people who don't like anime, and it sucks. I am so sick of it. Some asshole thought it'd be cute and funny to misspell the word to pretend like he didn't know what the word "anime" was, even though he was a huge anime nerd himself. Anime fans who pretend not to like anime are basically 65% of 4chan users. The other 35% are fucking pedophiles who pretend not to be pedophiles.

Hmm, so I guess I was the only one here that had fun watching shows like Kaiji, Steins;Gate, Beelzebub and Giant Killing?

I have yet to check out the new season, but I bet there is at least one or two good shows. You know, like every season: Tons of crap and a few good ones.

I also don't like shows like K-ON but how does it interfere with my personal taste? Also, if there is too much crap I check out some older shows I always wanted to watch and wait for the next season. Stop hating for the sake of hating. I also love the old bloody stuff like M.D. Geist and Perfect Blue, but that doesn't mean that they don't make anime like that anymore. You just have to open your eyes and ignore what some ronery virgins on some anonymous imageboard are fapping to and take it easy.

I don't see how it's possible to get angry at someone so ineffectual. Like, what is there to rage at? you're just telling people to stop liking what you don't like. Kids do it all the time.

Don't say this. In germany you would be considered from the police as a pedophile or terrorist for NOT having porn on your HDD: http://www.lawblog.de/index.php/archive ... puter-hat/

I know the article is german, but you should get the idea with google translate.

Better hurry up and download some pervy stuff.

This thread needs more Redline. (UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ)

Made by a bunch of people also stuck in the '80s, who spent 7 years hand-drawing this so they missed out the majority of the last decade doing this moth·$%·% piece of awesome. :P Pity the 5 minutes pilot had some actually better acrobatics and brutal gunfire.

So, the Last Exile remake speaks a lot of how things changed nowadays, eh? The original had lolis, kids and all the usual components but this one just goes and throws you lolis in underwear and garters from minute 0...

Still, you guys are missing the newest trend of making noses and mouths disappear. So moe.

That Redline pilot reminds me of Aachi wa Ssipak (and some goofy OAVs from the nineties). You lost me at the Last Exile mention, though. What "lolis", of all things, did the original have? It had the usual set of archetypes onboard, sure, but lolis? I'm confused.
