Fuck the visual novel.
I'm not buying a game only to pay for another game that is included in the game itself. It's like paying for shemnue only to play the games in the arcade store in shemnue.
I do not support stupidity.

Or paying for Yakuza 3 and spending over 10 hours on the Club Sega shooting minigame.

Or buying a cave pcb and spending an eternity staring at the cardboard box

Maybe CAVE thought they could get more players doing this during their games? Explains why cave is stepping into the Visual Novel genre.yosai wrote:fixedBananamatic wrote:Or buying a cave pcb kit and spending an eternity masturbating whilst staring at the cardboard box

I seriously question the brain of anyone who will buy this for Dodonpachi and is actually not interested in VNs at all.
I'd rather just keep playing it on Mame or my Saturn.

Re: Dodonpachi coming to 360 (by way of Instant Brain)
I am plenty sane. Thanks for asking. CAVE's iOS ports are great. Playing with Kinect should bring a similar but refreshing change to the table if done right.ptoing wrote:I seriously question the brain of anyone who will buy this for Dodonpachi and is actually not interested in VNs at all.

If they do that poor of a job I just sell the game for a small loss and continue playing on the Saturn. No real harm done. Combining one of my favorite genres with a neat motion control scheme that I happen to already enjoy one of my favorite games (Child of Eden) on seems fun. I see nothing stupid about this.
My apologies for not being so prude about my shmup gaming.
Re: Dodonpachi coming to 360 (by way of Instant Brain)
Well, has nothing to do with prude. I mean if you do not like VNs. From what I gathered you have to play through Instant Brain to unlock DDP.
So you are saying you would enjoy sitting through a the whole game, in case you do not like it, just to play DDP.
Also I think that the Kinect aspect will suck ass. Just a hunch.

Re: Dodonpachi coming to 360 (by way of Instant Brain)
I can plug in my arcade stick, enable the turbo button function, and put a weight on the A button. Good chance that'll do the trick for the visual novel.
As for DDP with Kinect sucking ass.. Maybe. Who knows? I'm willing to give it a shot. If they treat it like they did their iOS games then it'll probably be great. If it just ends up being tacked on garbage, oh well. My loss. I'm not really that concerned because it'll hold its' resale value either way.

It's a visual novel, not a sound novel. It has routes, so mashing isn't going to work.
I'd laugh if unlocking DDP required the true end.

I'll let you guys know how it goes. If I have to wait for a perfect communication guide that would be pretty funny. D:

really? You honestly think that there is any chance of the motion controls not being complete crap? really?ZenErik wrote:I am plenty sane. Thanks for asking. CAVE's iOS ports are great. and if you're playing the Saturn port, just stop and play it on MAME.
CAVE is really perplexing.. Are they trying to give everyone the middle finger here? People would go crazy for a Guwange style XBLA release of DDP.

I can imagine a walkthrough taking care of this for those who don't understand Japanese, but still, it would be absolutely hilarious.Elixir wrote:It's a visual novel, not a sound novel. It has routes, so mashing isn't going to work.

Unless there was an arrange mode that actually made the game good, I'd easily pass on it. XBLA would have still been better than this.

Since DDP is kinect I wonder if any erm... up and down motions does anything special. Somebody needs to test it out.Shelcoof wrote:Maybe CAVE thought they could get more players doing this during their games? Come on now. If they thought Guwange was worth bringing to XBLA then why the hell not DDP?Paradigm wrote:True.burgerkingdiamond wrote:About 10 people would go crazy for a Guwange style XBLA release of DDP.

My guess is the human playing characters. In Dodonpachi, the player is a ship... such games have fared quite poorly as of late.burgerkingdiamond wrote:

Re: Dodonpachi coming to 360 (by way of Instant Brain)
Guwange pretty much bombed from what I've heard BTW.

NIN2-JUMP "pretty much bombed from what I heard BTW", and everyone knew it would, but that still got on XBLA. If anything Guwange bombed because of people bitching about the 16:9 problem and having eyesight problems with the menu plus being their more obscure title anyway.
I fail to see the justification of putting such obscure titles out expecting success on XBLA when they know everyone's more interested in their flagship series. Adding DDP to Instant Brain seems like they're trolling us more than anything else, but as its been mentioned I can just play it in MAME so it doesn't particularly phase me. Doesn't stop me from saying it seems like a silly design choice though.

They should just make it so you can play DDP from the start, but you need to play the VN parts after each level to power up your ship. It could be like the shooter version of Ar tonelico or something.Elixir wrote:I'd laugh if unlocking DDP required the true end.

Because, I mean, let's face it, that's basically how it is. This is not a popular genre.
Re: Dodonpachi coming to 360 (by way of Instant Brain)
Even this forum doesn't like these games half the time.
But where is this "Guwange bombed"? Is there any real data? How does it stack up with the other downloadables and retails? Hell, how did the arcade release do? I figure it did as well as any of their other games then.

Because they had a poll and the fans voted for Guwange and CAVE trusted their fans.burgerkingdiamond wrote:If they thought Guwange was worth bringing to XBLA then why the hell not DDP?
Re: Dodonpachi coming to 360 (by way of Instant Brain)
Just checked and Guwange is ranked 303 out of 409 in terms of most downloaded XBLA games.
Re: Dodonpachi coming to 360 (by way of Instant Brain)
Alright, what about the others? And yeah, people wanted Guwange, which they got.
