So will we need to update our roms now that sound support's been added, or can we just use the roms we're already using?

I'm terrible with MAME.

If you have the u23 and u24 roms they should work, those are the sound roms.

I had to rename futari15 to futari15a tho to make it work for some reason.

Just a question: sound roms have been dumped and officially released for MMP and Ibara only?

No, Futari and Deathsmiles have sound too. All of them do.

With the MAME at the top of the last page Espgaluda II and Ibara work perfectly, but it complains about missing ROMs in Deathsmiles and Mushihimesama. Help please? I don't know how to audit in command-line MAME.

I'm having the same problem with Mushihimesama. The error I'm getting when I try and load them from the command line is this:

mushisam_u4 NOT FOUND
mushisam_u2 NOT FOUND
u23 NOT FOUND
u24 NOT FOUND
ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.

For Futari I get the same thing except it says:

futari15_u4 NOT FOUND
futari15_u2 NOT FOUND

Deathsmiles, Espgaluda II, and Ibara work fine for me though. I posted about it right before the "OMG THE GAMES HAVE SOUND!" craze so I'm sure my post was overlooked. Ibara BL also doesn't show up in my games list either.

Thanks in advance. I can't seem to figure this stuff out despite my research.

Mushihimesama worked when I changed it from mushisam to mushisama.

Ibara Black label worked when I changed it to ibarablka.

Thanks for the quick reply! That worked for Mushihimesama and for Ibara BL.

Now I just need to figure out my issue with Futari 1.5. It's still giving me:

futari15_u4 NOT FOUND
futari15_u2 NOT FOUND
u23 NOT FOUND
u24 NOT FOUND
ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.

I'm not too concerned with that as I have it for the 360 but I still want to get it running.

Futari 1.5 has 2 frames of input lag (without additional which might come from monitor or usb devices), which I think the PCB has as well. In the port you can set the input lag and as far as I remember it says (PCB) behind the setting 2.

Ahhhhh! What the hell should I do???? I was saving money to buy a 360...
Or I should buy a new CPU???
With this humble computer, the games run at 33 to 45% of speed ----> unplayable...
What should I do???

If you want Cave to make money from you then the 360 would make sense.

Hahaha it's true xD
But the thing is that I was planning to buy a 360... But not just for the fact that I could play Cave 3rd games at 60fps and a lot of other games at full graphics... I like the 360 because of its extensive list of games (so many of them, excellent exclusives for 360), and due to kinect ;)

If you want an advice, buy an x360. Some of the best shmups on it are either region-free Platinum titles, or have PAL/NTSC-U releases, both of which mean low(er) investments. MAME has savestates, but here you got more accurate slowdown (in most cases), arrange modes, high quality music, high resolution graphics, various training modes, downloadable replays, leaderboards, statistics, certain bugs fixed, multiplayer... Well, there's no contest, really. Even now, having all these games emulated, I'd be lying if I said I regretted purchasing any of them as ports even if only arcade modes were present on the discs.

(PS2 Mushi and Ibara ports are total crap, though! Fuck that shit, go with an emulator.)

The only games I know that have noticeable lag on PCB are Batrider/Garegga/Bakraid.

Depends on whether or not all of the extras that the console port provides are worth it to you. For me, they aren't. I'm fine with just the game itself. I really don't care about online leaderboards or training mode, and when it comes to 2D shmups, I'm not concerned with HD. Most of the games for the 360 and PS3 aren't true HD anyway, and even when they are, you really aren't going to be able to tell the difference unless the TV is at least 40". It's also easier to have the games in a format that I can play on my PC. I don't have to worry about the disk getting scratched or a console breaking down and I can move them between PC's and put them on my laptop and take them on the go. It's just more convenient *shrug*

But if you want all of the extras, go for the console port.

Well, all I know is that the port has 4 settings for FrameDelay under Extra Settings in the Screen Options.

0V (Tearing)
1V (Fast) this is default
2V (PCB)
3V (Slow)

so this would suggest that the PCB has two frames worth of delay, no?

Do it.

No seriously, DO. IT. NOW. You will find an entirely new meaning for the word "LULZ"
I had already taken some files from mmp and put them in my deathsmiles rom. Boy i was surprised when i booted up deathsmiles.

@Nasirosuchus

Ild say buy a PAL / US 360, the extra gameplay modes and HD graphics for the CAVE games make it worth. Plus the best CAVE 360 ports (DS, futari, Esp Galuda 2 and th upcomming DFK) are all priced cheaply
Then theres the other STGs on XBLA plus cool non shmups like Outlanders and Pac Man CE DX, Nin2Jump plus other exclusives

Just make sure you buy a 360 slim (It has better heat venting and irc has a temp sensor and will shutdown to avoid the RROD just like a PC does) or atleast a later fat model

EDIT (after reading your last comments) Some of those arrange modes are fun although im unsure if MAME are emulating the black labels or not. Anyway the HD really does look great on my 23" LCD in TATE. I just couldnt stand to look at DS in low res after playing the HD 360 version first.

Bummer, that last 32-bit build posted, crashes (i think) when it tries to play a sound.

Might be because I don't actually have the u23 and u24 ROMs ... I just created empty dummy files lol

Speed is hugely improved over official MAMEUI 143u7 though.

I'm not going to deny that the game looks good in that vid, but SD is good enough for me. I've done my gaming on HDTV's since 2006, but mostly because of the sleekness and size, not because of the HD picture. Even as an IT guy and huge techo geek, I've never been big on the whole HD thing. Even as I've watched some of my friends and colleagues sing its praises and replace their DVD libraries with Blu-Ray and record all of their shows in HD, I've been just fine with my DVDs *shrug* (It certainly saves me a lot of money on HDDs for my file server whereas some of these guys have so much storage that keeping it cool requires something resembling a philharmonic orchestra of vacuum cleaners, blow dryers, and air conditioners.)

When it comes to shmups, I'm what I'd call a hunter. My focus is the 1cc. After I've done that, I'll play the game again for score, unlocking secrets (the Metal Slug games, especially), and for the coveted no-miss if possible, but that's all achievable in the regular arcade mode, and the biggest achievement is after I've gotten my mark and mounted its head on my wall, so to speak 8)

However, I can understand why people would want the extras. The arrange modes for some of these games are pretty damn awesome, and the achievements in some of these games are quite a catch as well.

The performance has dipped for me due to the additional performance requirements of the sound, as expected. Very very nice to get implemented though.

Sound handling is still to be optimised right?
