Suggestion: separate scoreboards for each character? Got back to Blade after STGT and I'm enjoying playing with other characters. My main is still Katana though heh.

Just one thousand points below 1,300,000 dammit.

Need to figure out a good strategy for 1-5. Those lanterns can fill the screen with bullets at a moment's notice.

Updated!!!

I make the separate scoreboards for each character. Because Aine and katana are so violent on sengoku blade, koyori too. They can do more score on a few spots.

Hagane: i post only your best score (Katana) on the general scoreboard and i post your others scores on the character scoreboard.

Nice score!!!.
1-5 are so hard for me too. I hate when this hand appear and this lanterns want kill me, all at the same time. 3 bombs is required on my strategy at this stage

When I was playing Senkogu Blade (back in '08) I always used to deliberately power down befeore the level 4 boss to make the beginning of stage 5 more manageable. I could never avoid getting killed at full rank.

If you do it you cant see "the secrets cannons", because you must kill this hands very fast for see it and do more score.
Katana and Aine can kill this hands with a charged shot, but the others characters cant...

Nice score, first of all!

The most consistent strategy to get past 1-5 is to do what TAD does at this superplay. Basically, every bullet in the level except for the cannonmen's patterns is aimed. So if you stay still, tap when all bullets in a wave are fired and then stand still again you'll avoid them all. That takes care of the popcorn enemies, but the main problem are the cannonmen. You can either take a conservative approach and time your taps to avoid the cannonmen's fast patterns like TAD does or try to take them down before they can actually shoot.

I don't know how to do it with Aine, but with Katana I avoid the first two waves and then get close to the cannonmen just as it appears while killing the third popcorn wave, then retreat to take care of the fourth wave, get in close again to kill the second cannonmen, retreat again and kill the fifth wave and, if I was fast enough with the first two cannonmen kill the two extra enemies that appear as they come down.

I think you can do it with Aine too, you need to slash the cannonmen once as they come down and then slash them again right away. If you don't mind spending a bomb here you can leave the first cannonmen alive and then kill it along with the second. The third and fourth are easier and you can exploit their blind spots easily because there are no other enemies for a while before the hands appear.

Then the next problem are the hands. Not really the hands since you can actually kill them before they get to do anything with charge shots, but again the pesky lanterns that assist them. The first hand is easy because enemies stop coming for a bit, giving you enough time to get in close and kill it before you get swarmed with bullets. If you kill it fast enough you get two extra enemies (the "potheads" -heh- that are worth 2,500 plus a coin). Retreat and repeat the strat from the first part. I think there are three popcorn waves before a second hand appears. Things are harder here because there are enemies filling the screen with bullets. You can either focus on the popcorns, especially the ones that come from above; go up and keep firing there to prevent them from shooting and them sweep down to kill the rest. You'll get some power downs from the hand but its pretty harmless without the other enemies around.

Last part can be tap dodged or sweeped. And the boss is quite easy, first pattern has a blind spot if you stay just below the middle of the screen (see the superplay for reference), the spinning pattern is easy, the part where it comes down and repeats the first pattern can be avoided staying in the upper half of the screen (careful with the first bullets he aims at you when he's about to start though, I got caught with that so many times for not paying attention and playing by memory hah), and the second form can be killed with charge shots before it actually does anything even with Aine IIRC.

Hope that's useful (and clear enough, my English is quite rudimentary), of course it'll take a lot of practice (especially if you want to get the extra enemies for points) but knowing how to dodge the lantern's bullets will make your life a lot easier. 1-5 is definitely the hardest stage on the first loop, harder than the initial stages of the second loop at high rank even.

Does being powered up really affect the rank? I couldn't really notice any differences between being powered up or down. Dying on stage 4 does make stage 5 significantly easier though.

Koyori can kill the hands fast enough if you make her familiar "ride" the hands by positioning yourself below them. She can do that with the cannonmen too, but it's quite hard with high rank due to the lanterns. But it can be done.

I'm sure Tengai and Junis can kill the hands fast too with the same trick, though the cannonmen should be nearly impossible for Tengai at high rank.

BTW, started playing Ace and despite my initial impressions I'm actually enjoying it!

644,100 - Hagane - 1-7 - Jane - MAME

Surprised about the total lack of Jane scores, she's incredibly powerful. Pretty much nothing can survive a fully powered up Jane at point blank range. Most bosses (even the demon last boss, as I've checked!) go down before they can even fire a bullet.

I have some questions about the game:

- Are the items you get from destroying the houses on the legged house boss level random or is there a method to get exactly what you want? I once got three bombs from there, most times I get one or a couple or power ups, or even nothing.

- Is there any way to destroy all the parts of that boss without bombing? The back legs are worth 10,000 and the front ones 5,000, plus the cannons are worth 2,000 IIRC, but it switches to its second form if you destroy two legs. You can destroy everything easily with a bomb, but I'd rather not use one there if possible.

- Is the boss you get at level four random? Left boss gives a nice bonus with the power ups it gives when you kill it.

- Is the last form of the last boss random? Most of the time I get the demon, but a few times I got a strange spinning yellow statue thing (that sometimes appears at the sixth stage of Blade too, and I don't know why it comes out in there either).

Thanks for the tips! I knew that small movements are key, but I didn't realize just how economical you can be with your taps until I read your post and saw TAD's run. I've been working on the stage at high rank and it isn't nearly as daunting as it first seemed. I can consistently no-bomb the first 30 seconds and the rest will hopefully follow suit with more practice.

In Ace, I believe the house items and the last boss' final form are completely random. I checked the top tier replays (all by the same guy) at the bottom of this post, and it looks like only Aine and Tengai can destroy the house boss' parts without bombing. The player might be triggering the more lucrative fourth boss by waiting in a very specific spot (pretty sure Strikers 1945 has a similar trick with stage 7's ostensibly random midboss and boss).

Jane 1 2
Tengai 1 2
Kenomaru 1 2
Koyori 1 2
Aine 1 2
Gennai 1 2

IM talking about to play 1-5 at high rank and without full power up.

Good stuff as usual, Saucy. There are some really nice safe spots in there that I didn't know and were costing me the loop.

Dunno if you knew about it already, but here's a 2,204.000 Ayin 2-ALL from Youku

Hope you find it useful.

Heh, there's a safe spot or simple solution for just about everything in Ace.

Wednesday's Aine run is really excellent. I had already made a video of the source .inp for easy reference, but thanks all the same.

BTW, great Katana replay here http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTUxNzg3Mjg4.html

Making some progress in the second loop. I can handle the water, sky, and temple stages on two bombs apiece. Also, figured out the first ten seconds of forest-from-hell (it didn't show up in this run, luckily).

Gah, let me try that again. (Ignore the ALL in the pic; the game displays that if you die in the final stage.)

Yep I'll also focus on Zero Gunner 2 now, but might play Blade whenever I need some distraction. This is a great game indeed.

Haha I hate you saucy, you've been playing this game for a couple of months and you are near a 2-ALL. Lend me a bit of your talent please ;_;

Well, this is the best I got lately

1,652,100 - Hagane - 2-5 - Katana - MAME

I've been focusing on perfecting the first loop and the first three stages (I use a save state with Water - Forest - Temple) of the second loop, so 2-5 is destroying me pretty hard without a solid strategy for it. Might be a long time before I can get past that.

Ha, thanks. Survival distance isn't the only way to measure progress, and you've been consistently beating me in terms of scoring refinement. I didn't hit 1.65 million in my latest run until about halfway through 2-6.

1,859,900 - saucykobold - ALL - Aine - MAME

This went really well--two deaths in 2-5 instead of the usual three or four and the rest of the second loop (forest stage included) went about as smoothly as it could have. I'll try to share a Youtube link within the next few days. :)

Congrats saucy, you rock. Are you going to try to improve your score or will you just leave it at an ALL?

Congrats saucykobold! This looks like one of the heavier Psikyo loops.

I am quite astonished how many Psikyo shmups have seen great scores/clears lately!

The only Psikyo games that remain to be beaten are Strikers 1945 Plus and Sol Divide. Anyone up for either of those fantastic games?

I'm currently working on my 2-ALL in Zero Gunner 2, Rob already has done it long time ago though. I probably won't go for multiple loops in other games, as I hate them usually. Well maybe Strikers 1999...
