was just wondering if i was the only one in india who plays DDP DOJ (PS2 and MAME) and anyone else from india thats here...

I'd love to hear some kind of "scene report" from India.. Are there arcade centers there? Do many people own consoles? Are video games even popular? I know absolutely nothing about the place.

I know a couple of philosophers from India (serious guys from Harvard and Stanford), but no shmuppers.

you do have arcades here but most of them are filled with simulation racers and lightgun games, and there was only one arcade i knew (now closed last time i check couple of months back) which had neo-geo and cps1 games it. Used to love playing KoF 98 on it. Never seen a arcade with shmups or 2d fighters in it apart from that one.

Most young people do have consoles here. more like the crowd between 12 - 24 atleast 5 outta 10 have atleast a handheld or a PS2. the consoles that sold here well was NES, genesis, dreamcast, ps2, and now ps3 and xbox360 + the wii. I have a PSP and PS2. I have seen people here playing Counter Strike and all other FPS games, most are FB game addicts, but never found another shmup addict. Tried getting my friends and cousins into shmups but they say its insane trying to dodge those patterns (gave em dodonpachi to play )

So until anyone else from india responds i guess i am the lone soldier here.

Long ago, there was a user on here named UK Narayan who was from India, but he lived in the UK. I think Action Jackson was also from India, but I could be mistaken since I have a bad memory.

its sad actually, the only shmup people know here is galaxian and a very few who know gradius for NES, apart from contra and mario and tetris. they dont even know of works of irem, konami, cave, treasure. but they all seem to know call of duty and counter strike...

they dont know what they are missing

Don't know about these forums, but I used to know a chap from India / New Delhi who could 1'cc Tiger Heli, Life Force, Ninja Gaiden II, Bad Dudes & Mario 3 on the NES as it was a walk in the park! Excellent player, strong guy and a great swimmer, over-all a great opponent to compete against. Good old gaming times back in school in 1990!

the NES (or more like sold under samurai brand name, who also distribute the Wii now) and its clones were the most popular game consoles here, infact you can still buy nes clones and pirate multigame carts here (pirate because they never officially licensed anything here)...

my first shmup memories are infact of gradius, galaga, galaxian and xevious on the NES...

I have never actually met who knows what a danmaku is in real life... so just keep wondering if there is some one else in this country beside me or i am the lone shmupper... (which is ironic, cause most shmups are about that one guy, with that spare space ship in his basement, flying off to save the world)...

More like bullet hell in general... But to whoever knows only touhou and not shmups in general
Touhou = shmups = danmaku
People do watch anime here, some are familiar with japanese culture...
I don't know if they know what touhou is too...
