Beat the game on Novice
Go to "New Game" and customize the Earl Type you want to use.
Highlight your Earl Type, but cancel out instead of starting a new game.
Select "Continue".

Voila, you're at the last stage with your selected Earl.

Still time consuming, but at least you don't need to beat the first four stages again.
This... seems unintentional.
Well, it's still time consuming so I think it's ok. :P

Still, such an unforgivably grindy task... Argh, no f----- way I'm doing that. I'm happy enough if I can clear this monster in the second difficulty mode.

I've been in Yom Kippur services for the last 5 hours, haven't eaten for a day, and am feeling too woozy to type correctly. Let's see how I do against Elixirel!

I remember kids in middle/highschool boasting their 24 hour fast as a noteworthy feat. I do that on accident every time I skip supper and forget my wallet/am too busy the next day. Note I'm in no way making light of the holiday, which is very important and special to the faith.

On topic, I've managed to clear Happa's first stage like twice. Time for some good ole mortification of the flesh.

Yom Kippur holds little suffering in comparison to Hitogata Happa.

Just so you know, my net name (since 2002) has nothing to do with Gundemonium, it's just a coincidence that I love Murasame's stuff and physically own all his games.

Does anyone feel like making a scoreboard for this stuff? Someone who preferably isn't me.

Ok, I'm officially butthurt. Can anyone tell me how or point me to a video of someone beating the Mission 0 boss without liberal use of luck? I have no idea how to close distance with the thing on the last phase.

Using the slowdown helps a lot. Also holding fire to slow down your movement speed helps in dodging the patterns.

What difficulty are you trying it at? Are you whoring out Leaf's mana move (where bullets are slowed) when you move in for the suicide?

Noblimente (or whatever the default difficulty is called). Yeah I whore it most vigorously. I just can't seem to dodge the bullets at the top as they're coming point blank. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough for safespots up there? I'll guess investigate further when I've recharged the ole batteries.

Hopefully this video helps?

there all aimless shots. I guess you just worry about the aimless shots that are pink/red colored as you try to fly in and get the suicide off. They shoot in a circular pattern, so you can predict what direction it will fire off next.

One of my favorite aspects of the game is that "threading the needle" component of suicide bombing :D

Thanks- that vid helped a bunch. Nuked the fucker on the first try.

I have to say, there is something particularly unique (and mental) about these bullet patterns though. Makes me feel like a shmup virgin again.

Still within the top 5 for every difficulty. I don't bother with the PS3 version any more though. Sound issues.

I'll be playing the Steam version from now on.

Huh. My router just switched off, and when I tried to play Happa again, it worked perfectly but said that my top scores had delay rates of 650%. Replays worked perfectly, but they claimed to have a negative delay rate, which makes even less sense.

Has anybody mentioned that Hitogata Happa has TATE!! I just tried the demo and was pleasantly surprised to find that in the options. I don't know if the original PC version had it but I know that the PS3 version doesn't.

Man, this is almost worth throwing a computer in my cab for. I would love to play it properly Tated in a candy. The PS3 controller is seriously lacking.

can anybody explain to me why instead of my username being listed on the scoreboards for Hitogata Happa there's my email (without the @XXXX.com)?

This is odd..

Man, I've fallen BACK in love with Hitogata Happa. This game is just amazing. Anyone who hasn't given it a shot is missing out.

Even though it is a lot different from Crimzon Clover I would say that it very closely rivals it for the best doujin shmup out there.

I'm not a Touhou hater. I can still find some enjoyment in the those games, but all the love that they get would be better directed towards HH.

Yeah, Happa is rather great. Playing for score is bull, as I've said, since half your score comes from using Rooty and standing in place during the Stage 3 boss fight.

there are a lot of weird scoring tricks. awhile ago I was trying to secure a spot at the top of the Nobilmente leaderboards and I had figured some out by trial and error. I haven't remembered them all yet.

Trying to climb my way up to the Eryth/Pearl 1cc on Gundeadligne Normal mode, could use some help with the Stage 4 Alter Break for Machina 13th.

At the moment I'm just brute forcing my way through the boss, but it seems like you need to destroy her rocket punch 'bits' to force her to spit out missiles that can be destroyed for green gems. The only video I can find of this is a Sapphire player on nicovid (lol hiscore 5.32b) in which the bits seem to magically disappear after he bombs, but I can't seem to recreate this on Easy mode with Pearl. There isn't any equivalent on Youtube that I'm aware of, aside from some movie of the Demonic Challenge version.

Murasame wiki says the bits are "shadow element", whatever that means. I think I've managed to destroy one of the two bits with Planeshift but it seems impossible to destroy both before the flamethrower part kicks in and the boss cycles back to her first bullet pattern.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Shadow element most likely refers to the same thing as Michael; Unable to be destroyed outside of Planeshift, as you may have noticed.

Nope, turns out this is incorrect. Shadow element enemies are only vulnerable to bomb damage.

The first enemy that this can be tested out on is Pamelah in Stage 2--her four orbiting flames are shadow element and cannot be damaged even in planeshift mode. However, Jet's regular bomb and and Pearl's Silent Judgment counterbomb will destroy these flames, leading to a change in Pamelah's bullet pattern.

So that means you'd need to counterbomb somehow to destroy Machina 13th's bits, which seems like a great deal of work as Pearl - Sapphire and Jet have a much easier time with this.

Having to defeat Eclipse and Full Frontal every time in Practice mode is getting tiring, and it's much quicker to take down Machina 13th the regular way, so I think I'm giving up for now--just gonna shoot for the regular 1cc. I also suck too much to get the Alter Break on Lotus, so 14 breaks will have to do.

(i did finally break the 1bil mark last night, woot! 8) took 42 hits in the process and had a very depressing death at the end with a life item floating on screen)

Edit: Having said all that, I've discovered that the point to counterbomb as Pearl is right after the 4x flamethrower attack, right when you get hit by the black hole attack, destroying all four bits and sending Machina into missile mode--it's fairly simple to collect enough gems for the Alter Break after that. Next problem will be how to not completely fail against the TLB if I manage to make it that far!

Huzzah! Picked up a regular 1-ALL, missed the TLB on this run, but for a fleeting moment I appear to have captured the #1 non-Japanese spot on the online rankings for Standard mode using Eryth/Pearl. Haha, it's a terrible score compared to that 5.3b video but I don't care, it's still 1.7b and the 1cc is still pretty exciting :P Still working on beating that TLB!
it appears that enemies with fewer clothes can spew out more bullets and are generally more powerful, so this TLB having zero clothes could in fact take quite some time to defeat

Which brings me to a related point -- where is everyone and why aren't you guys all playing this game, it's pretty fun

My friend pointed me to this collection, and I have been really enjoying Gundead and Recollection. I can't say the same for Hitogata though.

Just got my first clear on Gundead last night, 882 million. #11 on the standard scoreboard :D.
This is very exciting for me because I have never been good at manic shooters.

How do you defeat Michael at the end of stage 3? Only the Ruby beam seems to do any damage, but it is only good for one use against the boss before time runs out.
