I loved guardian heroes back before i met Evilfunkster (old school member who lived in my town) we would be renting it out on the weekends for our saturn. Turns out if i was not renting the copy he was renting the copy  .

I went back to that game it was ugly as sin but the sprites were nice. the high player option also sounds like a blast as multiplayer with random characters set was always a great way to spend a few hours.

Bring it on I say! who cares if they choose to include HD in the title. its a fucking buzz words of the times who give a shit. I am just glad they are not tagging on 3D

Official site.

Arcade mode is a 1 vs 21 survival mode. The Xbox 360 Arrange mode is balanced differently from the original game.

You know, I thought the original looked pretty bad. It was SO pixelated. If there is some kind of middle ground on this one, between the overly slick filters, and the pixelated as hell Saturn graphics, maybe it can look good.

Anyone know WHY it was that pixelated? I mean, their Genesis games looked great, and most of their 32 bit games did too. They had a really good grip on sprites.

I know that GH pans in and out, but is that really a reason for it to look SO pixelated?

They're a small team. Pixel art takes forever to do. Guardian Heroes has way more sprites than any of their other games.

It's just a time / cost issue.

Pixel art doesn't really take THAT much longer than 3D, especially with such a low colour count.

In a fighting game?

You should tell that to Capcom

Yet Arc System Works releases lots of new 2D games with new sprites and is a successful company. Capcom went 3D mainly because mainstream players have been brainwashed into thinking that anything 2D is outdated. So they played it safe with 3D.

Sprites only take too long if you do something insanely detailed and high quality such as KOF XIII, simpler sprites such as these aren't that time consuming.

The visuals were probably designed the way they were (pixelated) so the system cold handle the game. There is a ridiculous amount of slowdown in the game as it was, but there were a ton of sprites being thrown around too, not to mention everything was constantly being scaled.

I don't think memory was ever a bottleneck on the Saturn, so the size of the sprites doesn't really matter.

I'm still going to go with the reason that they were a small team, and they had to cut corners some where. You can see from these sprite sheets that they really focused their attention on animation:

The original graphics look fantastic in this version. They're much sharper than on the Saturn.

You know, I think GH on Saturn looks like crap, most of the time. I have my Saturn, hooked up to a CRT, and anything that's not in the foreground, is so pixelated, it almost looks like it's disintegrating.

The "original graphics" version, on this, on a CRT, is about the best I've seen the game. They look a little more pixelated, up close, but they look the same in the foreground and background. So, it works out. They kind of look like they have a black line that goes around the characters. That's good, considering how bad the characters faded out, in the background on the Sat version.
Of course, this doesn't look very good on a LCD or whatever. If you turn down the resolution, and add some scanlines, it ain't bad though.

Remix...I have..uh..mixed feelings about. I like some elements, but some of it just looks bland. It's not the Super Eagle nightmare that a lot of people were afraid of.

Opinions?
