Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Vita's lineup for launch is impressive. Unfortunately I can't see myself buying any of these. The only game which takes my interest here is Disgaea 3, which I already own, and barely played. After having started Disgaea 4 lately it's evident that it's better than 3 in every way.
As for the Cave game, eh. I'm not interested. I'll most likely buy a Vita but it'll never be for fighters or shmups.

haven't found any others, seems like a cool series overall
Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
XSeed finished localizing all the PSP Ys games (and the first Trails in the Sky) this year, so you're all set!
I recommend starting with the remakes of I & II, even if you've played them on PC-Engine. Most of the bosses would pass unchanged in a shmup!

Can we hope for a port of Cho Aniki PS2 with a faithful application of the Masturbation Cannon?
Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
If it's something original, then I'm betting it's something Deathsmiles-related. I doubt it's a true sequel though.

Don't get me wrong, I think stuff like that sounds fun.. but in a Cave shooter?spadgy wrote:I'm not quite sure what you mean Sumez, so I'll clarify what I was on about. Super Stardust Vita had some awesome touches, like being able to 'pinch' asteroids through the device (a finger on the back touch screen and a thumb on the front one) to destroy them. LittleBigPlanet on the Vita made great use of the rear touch 'screen' and super tight tilt sensitivity too. I have faith Cave could do something great with the Vita.
Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Played Vita at TGS today - no Cave builds there yet of course
tried :
Ridge - um... same old track, frame rate struggling to hit 30 so pretty obviously early build, nice DOF effect though, looked about on par with PS3 version in terms of shaders etc, car models lacked a bit of texturing, no rear view/mirror. Work to be done
Wipeout 2048 - massive wipeout nut , 30fps :/ but at least smooth and looked throughly gorgeous going through a city scape then arching up to take in some very nice looking cloudy skyline. Speed up bumps now harder to see - no new weapons that i came across. Lots of different branching paths. Again - outside frame rate (that -might- get bumped yet) wouldn't look out of place on PS3
Overal - machine seems great. A bit bigger than i expected, though the sticks and face buttons felt a bit too small. Hopefully that gets resolved closer to launch

I really cant wait for the Vita.
This sounds strange, or maybe not on a shmup forum, but i cant wait to play Phoenix and galaga on that handheld.
Old games, but on that screen, is just an epic win.

are we really getting no more 360 shmups for the rest of 2011?

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
i have long since learned to never trust anything Namco says about Ridge. I recall the famitsu interview saying XX new tracks! Which turned out to be completely crap :/...Anything else to say about RR? The trailer looked like they were going for something new and weird, so everything you said is a bit disappointing.
Strangely, RR:Unbounded is actually something new - but it's a step in the wrong direction. All we want is a complete set of new tracks - and since Ridge Racer 6 we're getting them in 1-2 drabs.

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Well, for the U.S. 3DS market, Nintendo wisely added Netflix app to be able to watch stuff via streaming. I'm surprised that Netflix doesn't even have their own dedicated portable player device anyways. Plus, there are plans for Netflix to deliver 3D streaming content via the 3DS later on down the road. Of course, NF has a business deal on-going with both Sony and Microsoft with their gaming console platforms as well. Sony refuses to discuss the business deal partnership with NF for it's streaming services through it's PS3 and dedicated Blu-Ray player devices.Skykid wrote:Hrm, I've got no plans to buy a Vita, especially at launch price. I even found the 3DS a little more appealing, and I don't have one of those.
Cool to hear that Cave is finally working on a new shmup IP for a new portable handheld. Whatever it takes to bring out a new shmup IP to the genre.

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
The 360 is practically comatose in Japan now, I think it's safe to guess that Cave's done with it.
Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
That would be sad :/
Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Can't find the thread right now, but I think it has been confirmed that they still work on the 360.
I can't imagine them upgrading anymore games to hi-res, but every classic compilation would guarantee at least 6000+ units, so they would be just passing an oportunity to make some easy money. Dangun Feveron, Ibara Collection, Mushihimesama Collection - come on, Cave!

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Also I am sure they have an established fanbase now which already owns 360s, in Japan as well as outside. They would at least have some sure sales. I am hoping for the best.

Yeah, I recall them stating that they'd continue to put stuff out in the arcades and on the 360, at least to some degree.Fudoh wrote:Can't find the thread right now, but I think it has been confirmed that they still work on the 360.

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Theres been a shitload of shmups released this past year I expect they are gonna sit it out for the rest of this year and will be back next year when weve had our fill and are hungry for more.
I was about to say that they might be staying away from console due to the sheer amount of game that are releasing atm, but im not too sure if Japan is going though the same thing. However releasing games in the first 6 or 7 months of the year means they wont get burried under all the other games that release in the run up to xmas

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
I think Cave will do one more 360 shmup port, then call it quits, aside from another visual novel or two. The 360 will probably start to be phased out in Japan by the end of next year--some retailers have already stopped carrying it. I think it's just that everyone who'd want one already owns one.
It's nice that I can say they don't have many options left--it'd just be XBLA Feveron, an Ibara/Kuro double pack, or maybe XBLA Esprade. Maybe a pack of the Uo Pokos, if they were feeling insane. I don't think they see a need for more Espgaluda 1/Mushi 1 ports.

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Which is way more than Cave need to keep profiting from it. There are over a million 360 owners in Japan, with Cave selling on average 20K to 30K per title. They've obviously been profiting from that otherwise they wouldnt' have released so many in such a short period.Estebang wrote:I think Cave will do one more 360 shmup port, then call it quits, aside from another visual novel or two. Dont' forget Donpachi/Dodonpachi. I seriously doubt we'll see anything else from Cave on XBLA although I can see them maybe releasing stuff (maybe double packs) straight to Games On Demand.Estebang wrote:It's nice that I can say they don't have many options left--it'd just be XBLA Feveron, an Ibara/Kuro double pack, or maybe XBLA Esprade. Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Perhaps they will wise up and port the 1.5 version of Mushi that came out a few months ago. They made enough changes to warrant a wide release, plus the PS2 port is generally seen as unsatisfactory. I think due to Futari's popularity a Mushi double pack would be more likely than an Ibara one.Estebang wrote: I don't think they see a need for more Espgaluda 1/Mushi 1 ports.

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
Is there any shmups from any dev that have been announced for release for next year? I cant think of one. So im kinda hoping that Cave will give us a derth of 360 STGs. (next year)
If we get to December and there hasnt been one 2012 game announcement from any shmup devs then im gonna start getting worried
Actually another double pack would make sense. Although it would need a bit of more content as MMP and PS was abit barerift for me. Putting the extra content as pre order DLC when it needed to be on the disk kinda sucked as I dont have it. All Cave need to do is create atleast one extra mode (thats good) for each game, make sure they get the screen options right and dont fuck anything else up and im a happy chappy.
Although I have both Futari and EspGaluda 2 I wouldnt mind owning a PAL Mushihimisama Original & Futari along with the new 1.5 arrange mode. Same as I would buy a PAL Esp Galuda 1 & 2 with all the extras on disc or cheap DLC. I havnt bothered with any of the CAVE dlc yet but isnt it all priced at 1200 msp?

Re: Cave Shooting Game (Vita)
I haven't got any industry insider knowledge or anything (and could well be wrong), but I get a sense Cave are far from done; as a business and with shmups. Their current focus seems to be on further increasing global reach, so 2012 might be something of a fallow year for STGs in general, but I doubt they'll drop the genre quite yet.
