Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
Oh hey, this isn't dead.
If we ever get either of these games, I'll try to pick them up.

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
The game looks awesome, but I think it could look even better with fixed camera angles and some kind of frame-skipping visual effect. The smoothness is definitely the ugliest thing about it; jarring, even, when you're expecting the traditional look of Miyazaki's films.

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
As I said in the other thread, I love the look, but the gameplay shown so far, especially for the PS3 edition, strikes me as clunky off the cuff. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong, but a lot of Level5's titles have ended up rubbing me the wrong way despite the prettiness...hopefully this will be the exception.

At least it looks and sounds (Joe Hisaishi!) "a bit" better than the last Ghibli game (which was a shmup) http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/240

isn't there some connection between Nausicaa and Mushihime-sama? in inspiration at least.

They did some work on Magic Pengel too!Shocky wrote:At least it looks and sounds (Joe Hisaishi!) "a bit" better than the last Ghibli game (which was a shmup) http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/240
If this turns out good (Level 5's involvement makes me wary) I will play this on my (SD) TV and not my (HD) monitor. It looks waaaaay better at low res.

Yeah, I have no citation, but Nausicaa massively influenced Mushi. Even my girlfriend twigged the links when she saw me playing it.antron wrote:wow,Shocky wrote:At least it looks and sounds (Joe Hisaishi!) Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
I agree about the PS3 gameplay looking confusing, but it sure looks nice. I'll likely just be picking up the DS version. Not as pretty, but the gameplay looks solid (Dragon Quest ripoff, which is a plus in my book), and I don't have a PS3.
Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
Game looks beautiful but I'm not a fan of RPGs. But hey I might change my mind once it comes out

Hasn't Level 5's last two solo projects been not so great? (white knight chronicles, and that sci fi RPG)
They always look great, but then they have problems elsewhere.

Neighbours were probably not too happy with me when I read about this in the middle of the night.
Day 1 purchase!
Won't wait for the Euro release with this one.

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
Couldn't care less about the console version. Far more interested in the DS version. Hope it doesn't jump over a Western release simply because it doesn't have a '3D' onthe box

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
I can't see the DS version being localized. The Japanese version comes with a very large book that you're constantly subject to referring to, in order to perform certain magic spells, etc. Translating that in itself would probably take longer than translating the entire game.
I've no idea why they made the DS version so complicated. Oh, and it bombed.

The spellcasting aspect really appealed to me. It kind reminded me of Treasure Of The Ruldras from what I read of it (in terms of its complexity).Elixir wrote:I can't see the DS version being localized. Without the book, the console version seems pretty uninteresting. Shame.

Comes out in Japan today. Swamped with games at the moment though, but I still have the urge to order.

Game looks amazing. I'll certainly be picking up the NA version when it comes out. This looks like what I want DQ10 to look like

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
Found a review, entirely in.. Portuguese. Entirely relying in Google translate:
- 40 to 45 hours for the main game
- only partial voice acting, lots of text
- has Monster Rancher elements, over 300 imajinns to obtain (collectable monsters?)
- lots of optional content, imajinn battles, competitions, dungeons, similar to FFIX
- not linear, gives players various goals, which can be completed in any order
- very dragon quest-esque, but the battle system is mostly spell-based

Yeah, I don't know how the game's gonna turn out, but that's exactly what I thought. Actually, that's what I wanted part 9 to look like.linko9 wrote:

VIII looked so good, and played so well...it just looks like step downs from now on. Online...ugh....

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
I played the demo. Interested.
I know Famitsu loved it, which means nothing.
Anyone played this thing yet? I know it's coming to NA in January, but I'm looking for some importer opinions.
Level 5 are hit and miss.

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
Strong first few hours, which naturally gets watered down over the course of the game. Very few animated scenes later on, monster collecting/raising elements get tedious (can't ignore this and get by). Liked it plenty, though. I mainly play RPGs for music, atmosphere, etc. - worked for me.

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
I tried the demo of this, and generally liked a lot of what I saw, but the same element that was enough by itself to turn me off of Rogue Galaxy reared its ugly head once again: brain-dead ally AI. I REALLY hate babysitting my party members; presumably there'll be additional ways to tweak their behavior in the full version, but I'll probably wait for the price to drop before plunking down for it.
Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
Forgot about this. It really is near worthless and the worst part of the whole game. Forces you to switch between characters constantly, be the healer or just leave them on the ground. Can be excruciating when it gets to the harder battles. If you play the full version, save all of the good health items for the end. None of it will go to waste.BulletMagnet wrote:brain-dead ally AI.

Re: Ni no Kuni / 二ノ国 (PS3)
It does look beautiful! Did Level 5 ever come out (in the West) with anymore games for the PS3 in the White Knight Chronicles series? I remember hearing, a couple of years ago, that it was supposed to be a trilogy.
