Loads and loads of black metal.
My latest love is Yapoos, a synthy new wavy 80s Japanese pop band. Fronted by Jun Togawa. Absolute perfection.
Off to see Converge live tomorrow! Very excited. Been listening to Jane Doe loads in my excitement.
Really enjoying Shinsei Kamattechan too. Definitely the first Japanese indie band I've gotten really exited about.

Nice work. I caught them in London last year and they were predictably intense. I was going to hit this show if they played the whole of Jane Doe for the decade anniversary but they're not doing that. :-/MX7 wrote:

I'm sure it will still be a riot though.
Re: current favorite albums
They opened with Concubine which made me think they might do the whole album, but they actually played relatively few tracks from Doe. Was a very strong set. Wisely stayed away from the circle pit. I'm too old for that nowRupert H wrote:Nice work. I caught them in London last year and they were predictably intense. The only things that marred them were the terrible sound (which seems to be a problem with the Islington Academy) and the fact that Pettybone, the support were so good that converge were kind of upstaged.

Re: current favorite albums
Gallhammer - The End - Even more primitive and reductive than previous efforts, this album proves how effective the core of bass and drums were for them. I also like the alternating growly and girly squeaking voices.
Cold Cave - Cherish The Light Years - Much more poppy than his first album, but it's still awesome.
Prurient - Bermuda Drain - Lol, where did this come from? The ear shattering feedback of Black Vase and the enveloping fuzz of Cocaine Death has been replaced with 80s synths and filthy monologues. Almost danceable occasionally. Brilliant.

Ugh, after buying the Complete Fela box, I guess it's gonna be X album by Fela for a while. Before that I'd been enjoying the Electric Masada album 'Live at the Mountains of Madness' and a huge collection of Etron Fou Leloublan that has most of the tracks off 5 or their albums. Before that was listening to a lot of Van Der Graaf Generator.

Re: current favorite albums
I've let my involvement in this thread wane for too long!
Recently I've been getting right back into my breakcore.
I just got hold of the LP edition of DJ Rainbow Ejaculation's self titled album. It's hard to track down, but many of the tracks are available mixed as a free legal download here (NSFW - this is a super-gay breakcore mash-up of rave, gabber, pop, hip hop and gay anthems, and it's pretty damn porny). That link doesn't start a download - just takes you to a page. I just bloody love this.
I admit, DJ Rainbow Ejaculation is pretty silly (as is Shitmat's ace 99-track free download breakcore/ravecore album Full of Shit. Check out track two if you dare!).
On a more serious breakcore note, I'm listening to a lot of the breakcore-ragga crossover stuff on Death$ucker and record labels like that. Mainly stuff by DLC and Stivs. Tunes like this (it's fairly straight jungle until 1 minute in, when it reveals itself as something quite insanely good), and this pounding raggacore anthem (get the full version on vinyl from the amazing DSWAT.net).

Sorta branched over to the Miles Davis Complete On The Corner box. One cannot live on Fela alone.

@Spadgy Cool, I'm going to check out that DJ Rainbow Ejaculation album. I've got a track of his on a compilation of (mainly) Japanese breakcore/noise/etc. Have you ever heard any of the Adaadat Trade And Distribution compilations? Lots of stuff in a similar vein.

Actually - I have one of Rainbow Ejaculation's albums on CD. I'll lend it to you next time we're both in the arcade if you want (came with a sampler of all the other stuff on his record panel (GPFS) so I can lend you that too if you want.
I also just got the Graz album. An insane gabber/amen breaks breakcore mash-up of horrid pop and awesome rave. Loads of fun, and such a lo-fo release that mine came with bits of tobacco trapped in the seal of the CD's baggie. Clearly home assembled!
