Ordyne (Arcade, PC-Engine)

Post by Mero »

This is the high score thread for Ordyne, Namco's fairly well liked (I think?) horizontal shooting game from 1988. Fun to play and not too taxing ^^

No continues, all defaults. Extends should be at 40k, 120k and 220k.

State which version you're playing.

Too many stupid deaths in this run, but got two lives left. Oh, and the extends in this version are every 50k. There are two hidden 1ups. On stage 3, take care of the boss first. Grab it immediately after it's destruction. The other is found under the reverse L platform.

Video to be uploaded tomorrow.

Watching BGR's 3-part superplay should help you do better:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5nxRjBK1pw
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPWCnOWW91w
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GosRTdUYFhw

Unlike Ordyne PCE (in which high-scoring depends on how many lives obtained), Ordyne Arcade has crystals for high scoring.

yeah I've seen those
the problem with this game is the 100.000 crystal bonus from the roulette
no matter how well you do in a run, getting none of these is disappointing score-wise

You just have to do your luck with Dream Co. Ltd. Try playing it again so you can practice it.

There's definitely some trick to getting 100k on the roulette wheel, I might take another crack at this game sometime soon

I'm trying to clear this one. Question: Are those 1up items in the arcade version? Sure, I guess I could watch those videos... >_<

Score-based extends only in the arcade version, though you can buy an extend in the shop for extortionate prices.

Seems the only way to buy a 1up is to get lucky in a Dream Co Ltd.

My NoMiss Replay of the run http://youtu.be/SZn6jPtrB98

This should be pretty easy to counter-stop. I have a timing trick to semi-consistently get whatever # you want on the roulette. x6 100,000 from every roulette + a NoMiss should easily achieve it.

From memory, there's an easier way to counterstop the PCE than using the roulette.
Recall discovering it back when I first owned tha game, but have a feeling it doesn't work in the arcade ver.
Will see if I can work it out and post a score.

The score counter goes over a million in the arcade version, but I think it has some sort of issue with infinite milking so they use crystal collected as the criteria for the world record.

Tried getting 100,000 in every roulette and it doesn't effect the score after all, the crystals do nothing towards the score. Unfortunately the scoring is ruined on this in a much simpler way. It turns out you can milk the small projectiles from the stage 5 boss (and when he appears in stage6) and max the game out pretty easily with 45 mins milking and completing the game with a NoMiss. .

Took me a while to remember what the milking position was for that boss: it's been 20+yrs...
Still hate the last level too!

Also remembered the hidden (?) turtle boss bonus if you beat it when it's upside down.

I think you just have to catch the turtle when it falls to get a bonus.

Anyway, good score. How many points did you get out of the stage 5 boss?

Nice score :) It's unfortunate the game has broken scroring. Surely it wouldn't have taken much effort to put in a time-out limit on a boss fight, the did it on PCE Dragon Saber, it seems like a silly oversight with an easy fix. Ah well :(

This score contains more than a little bit of milking.
