No, but there's a stack of other games that make the system worth getting.

if you search around some, you'll find that much has been writen about PCEngine shooters.
here's a start: http://pcenginebible.roarvgm.com/

I actually purchased a Duo in the past year with my prime interest being Spriggan. As it turns out there are countless games more interesting than another Compile rehash (don't get me wrong - I love Compile and Spriggan).

some of my favorites include: Gradius 2, The Lost Sunheart, Soldier Blade, Galaga '88, Download 2, Parodius, Kyukyoku Tiger, and gems like Out Run, Kaze Kiri, and all the Namco coin-op translations.
The more games I buy for the PCEngine, the less I care about the Compile games on the system. Spriggan Mark 2 is the only Compile game that really doesn't have a very similar counterpart on another system.

Definitely get a Duo. The four Compile shooters are probably the best the company has ever made. If you're a Compile fan, you must own this system.

Having said that, there are of course dozens of other great shmups on the system. Gate of Thunder, Winds of Thunder, Magical Chase, the original R-Type, Star Soldier series, Star Parodier, Nexzr, Sapphire, Wonderboy III, Coryoon, Gradius 1&2 and Parodius are all worth your time.

An the there's the whole plethora of excellent non-shmup games. Akumajo Dracula X, Ys series, Bomberman series, Neutopia I&II, Nectaris, Kaze Kiri, Snatcher, most Namco conversions, PC Genjin, and so on...

I´d say yes, but not because of the two games you mention.
Also, be advised that if you do get the Turbo Duo, you probably won´t be able to play Jpn games, many of which I find absolutely great.
For that, you need the PC Engine DUO (R, RX).

But hell yes, get one this instant! :D

Didn't Compile create the Puyo series?

I'm not a fan of these games, but money will ultimately decide what you're going to do in the end.
I haven't actively browsed/used this forum in many years and it's no longer an accurate representation of me.

I have retired from genre-specific content creation after 13 years, but I'll always love this little genre in my own personal way.

Absolutely, PLUS there are other non-Compile games tnat have a similar play-style.

Sounds like you've already got a Genesis or Mega Drive; then a Duo would be the perfect compliment to that for any Compile fan.

And welcome to the forums; it's always great to have another Compile fan on here.

BTW, www.japangamestock.com sells Duo units for $60, and they have a very good reputation.

Not quite. Any Duo will play CD software from any region, which is quite nice. It's only the HuCards / Turbochips that are region-protected. That can be solved via a conversion board that goes between the system and the game. To do this you want an American Duo, believe it or not. I'm not sure if a simple conversion method exists for Japanese systems.
